New World's open beta kicks off today, and the new MMO from Amazon still has me asking questions. While Bradford enjoyed he time in New world in late July during its closed beta, going so far as to say he feels it is one of the most social MMOs to be launching to date in a previous editorial, he does wonder about its longevity, mostly due to its content.

That said, most mmos release with insufficient endgame content. Doubt this one will be any different. The question is, how log will it take them to dish out more content. From the looks of it, they're pretty capable of doing so.
We shall see in a couple weeks/months upon release.

They didnt lay all their cards on the table, as they shouldnt have.
To write a game off in closed beta doesnt really speak much for your analytics.

Maybe to an extent since there is open world pvp flag system instead of instanced pvp like ESO. ESO does have better lore, but time will tell when it comes to ESO.

You mean the part off the map that are not even close to complete then yes you are correct 100% this game will go f2p with in a year
A year ago I thought the PvE elements were very minimal and there wasn't even any of the staple, on-demand, group content. They addressed the group content part with the addition of expeditions although IMO, they still need more of them, more easily accessible (entry is locked behind a token you can get from quest rewards or craft them) and starting at a lower level (currently the lowest level one is 25,)
It's still kind of awkward for group play outside the expeditions with no quest sharing and a lot of RNG with respect to what quests or tasks you have. This makes it so that syncing with a friend or a group is very hit and miss.
The basics though are in a very good place with outstanding world building, graphics and sound and the combat itself is engaging enough with a lot of variety depending on which 2 weapons you choose to use.
Currently IMO, It's worth the $40 entry fee (no sub after that) even if you get bored after a couple of months.
There's a lot of potential here and it could be a superb PvX MMO in a year or two once they work out the kinks.

And the weapons, and the armor, quest lines, theres something like 6+ expeditions that were found that were not accessible in the closed beta... I mean i get the standard is to just scoff at any MMO now-a-days and call it a flop if it doesnt make WoW money. But after playing the closed beta im actually willing to give this game an honest chance.
