imageNew World Begins Compensation for Downtime, Then Puts EU Central into Maintenance for Potential Issue | MMORPG.com

New World got a surprise second update last night, with stability fixes, re-added Harvester gear, and coin compensation starting for downtime and issues. However, today EU Central is down for a potential issue with that compensation.

Good question. Now they're rolling back the compensation they gave, because they significantly over compensated players.

A checkered launch followed by transfers and too many kneejerk changes produces problem after problem. Their reaction to this bad press will be that they need to make more changes more quickly and so it goes on.

As predicted by many, New World will end up in ruins rather quickly. Amazon was very smart to buy publishing rights for Lost Ark. Soon they will have no more steady income from New World and dare I say it, they might even shut down the servers in few months or years unless they turn things around.

Quite possibly the worst MMORPG of the last decade.

    - Incompetent developers.
    - Poor management.
    - Product is still in a beta state, at best.
    - No less than 10 gold/item dupes that have existed since launch.
    - Groups of players perma banned for minor offences, while large scale exploiters receive 24hr suspensions.
    - Devs purposefully lying to their playerbase about removing duped gold and items (they have not, despite their claims).
    - Releasing paid store cosmetic content before fixing critical exploits and bugs.
    - Shutting down the entire ingame economy. No trading, auctions, etc... of any kind, for upto 48hrs at a time.
    - Player retention levels that are so poor they have basically never been seen before in the history of the genre. Checkout SteamCharts, the game has dropped from nearly 1 million players at launch to under 200k. No, this does NOT happen to every "new mmorpg", despite what some fans will try to make you believe. Yes, losing players is normal. Losing two thirds of the entire playerbase in the first two months, however, is absolutely not.
    - The game is client authoritative, as opposed to server, so very susceptible to hacking/cheating. Amazon has lied about this as well, when there is contrary evidence proving otherwise.

The list goes on and on and gets longer every week. They fix one issue and create two more.

In twenty years of online gaming, primarily spent playing MMORPGs, I've seen some bad launches and poor quality products but never anything on the level of this dumpster fire, especially in a such short period of time (they are planning servers merges two months after launch.... that is unheard of in this industry).

I burned 670+ hrs trying to give this game the most fair shot possible, but after doing so I can safely say that given the opportunity I would roll the clock back and invest every single hour into another game. Save your money and close your wallet.

New World is the Fallout 76 of 2021.

Yeah, my heart is a little broken today. I really tried to hang in there. I hope they do turn it around. I enjoyed it, but I came here today to look for something else to try. Time to move on from this one for now.

On my 40-200 pop server people used the gold to vacuum the market of anything valuable. First rollback they have to take is because of COMPENSATION.

You lost me at 670 hours played, you could have come to the conclusion it wasn't worth playing far more quickly.

I'd recommend taking a break to see if they can straighten things out and go back then as it certainly had many qualities which you enjoyed.

I guess when I was asking for PTS, I should've asked them to use it a bit more as well.

More than 10hrs. per day since launch.

Which means that poster, coming literally out of nowhere, is full of shit and is lying.
Who would have thought that considering his post history... ;)

what makes you think they can handle lost ark ? there is gonna be exploits , server issues and what nots in lost ark . the time it will take to communicate the issues from amazon to lost ark development team will create even more mess . just wait till the circus starts .

New World is the Fallout 76 of 2021.

I strongly suspect it doesn't even make top 20 worst mmorpg's in the last decade.

Latest update from 19 minutes ago as of this post:

"I’d like to take a moment to explain what happened. After our patch early this morning, a separate database modification in EU was executed to grant catch up funds for players affected by in-game tax losses since the November feature release. This database change mistakenly granted very large sums not reflective of the intended amounts. Many players then spent that money, often buying large amounts of items off the trading post. As soon as we realized the error we took the EU worlds offline at 3:00PM CET to diagnose what could be done to correct it. Upon examination, it was clear that there was no clean path to reversing only the players who were granted money, as the secondary effects were widespread and involved many more players and systems. We therefore made the decision to roll back characters, companies and the trading post to 12:45PM CET, which is just before the database modification was implemented."

Does this company even know how to use a test server?  They keep seeing these major catastrophic problems right after the patch.  These seem to be oblivious to all their previous mistakes.  The test server would easily be catching these.

How do these devs continue to have so much confidence that their code has no bugs after all that has already happened so far.

If I was the lead designer for this I wouldn't even let 1 line of code go through without a thorough test at this point.  But I guess they don't care how incompetent they look.

Nobody could have guessed it, the rollbacks created new errors of stuck characters and missing items. To be continued...
