As we close out 2021, oftentimes we tend to look back on the year that was and ask 'What if?' When it comes to the world of MMORPGs, Bradford has quite a few of them. As he details one of his largest MMO regrets of the year, he is wondering what yours might be?

Not enough time to play them all.....

Coming off a long draught this seems crazy to say.

i regret that there are no interesting mmo's for me to play. Its not so much of a regret but a lament for things that died before reaching their potential.

It seems I can't get over EQNext but that's someone else's regret since I had no role in fucking it up. Unless you think I'm such a cursed unlucky man that whatever I like would turn to ashes then I would argue that well your site is still standing, so, don't start jinxing it now.

Not really I am happily playing MMORPGs this year. I may be playing older MMORPGs but what is the problem if I'm having fun huh?

The only new MMO that I tried was New World. As is usual, I'm waiting another 6-12 months before I really play it. So not disappointed really.

What on earth is an EVE Online party? Hopefully you actual play the game and this was not a massive shindig during lockdown. :)

That I have not settled into a MMO this year has to be my biggest regret, I don't count try outs, but hopeful for the new year.

I quit WOW for good early in 2021. Only regret is that I did not quit sooner.
My hardcore raiding days ended years ago anyway. last ex pack did nothing for me story wise. Did not even reach max lvl. PUGs in dungeons became a chore also over the years.
Like every time people would try to do neck breaking speed runs. What happened to chat a bit , look at the transmogs and take your time? Like and 55year old Guild leader I had in Rift used to say : I am to old to rush.

Could be solved easily with a good guild and old friends. But did not actively seek that.

Play Potbs casually. Thought the game was dead until I got a mail. Game is barely scraping by thanks to the last of the fans. Slowly dying. But I have said that for over 6 years now :)

Will jump into New World sometime during next year.
I am a scizo misanthrope. So one day I may go BANZAI on your post.
Have not yet though. Maybe there is hope?
Nah there is really none for me or the human race.

buying a house in Crowfall. I'll watch though and see if they survive and make progress.. or is it... make progress and survive. Either way, I'll keep watch and wish them luck and hope.

I regret the lack of innovation, improvements and ingenuity missing in MMORPGs.  These are difficult games to make, but all developers seem content will simply remaking older games rather than building new formulas.  No one is attempting to stand on the shoulders of giants.

I pretty much have felt this way for at least a decade, which makes it sad.

Oh, I guess I could have been more clear. This was an in-person party before the pandemic at EVE Vegas one year, lol.

Despite me being not only caught up but responsible for our site's Endwalker review and FFXIV content... my roommate only just caught up to Shadowbringers, which seems to be his regret because he won't stop calling any time doing something productive as "lost MSQ time." He'd given the ARR beta a go, too, so he doesn't have much of an excuse, either...

I regret not playing Defiance. And now I'll never be able to.

Honestly I didnt think they ever even had a game....It felt like they used the Everquest name to sell Landmark...If they actually did have more than a handful of ideas, it would have been on a Star Citizen type of release.....

I regret playing BDO for another year. But I believe I've finally got over this cancer. I'm ready for Lost Ark :)

I regret defending New World and Amazon Games...

Before release there was a lot of criticism about the game and jokes about Amazon being in the video game business. I argued against them all and defended the game and the devs on many different forums and social media platforms.

    I very much regret that.

The stunning level of incompetence shown by the "devs" of New World is unlike anything I have ever seen in an MMO. I have been playing MMOs since Asheron's call in 1998 and I have seen many failures and many games filled with bugs and broken (or missing) content, but I never seen such abject failure on every level as the amateur level sh*t-show that is New World.

This is my mea culpa... the critics were right and I was wrong. Amazon has no business in the video game market and the so-called devs of New World have no business making games.

Buying Archeage Unchained. Game developers changing publishers screwed me twice over. Once with Archeage and BDO. Only paid 10 for each but still.

Almost all mmos in 2021 were just like the year itself. One big regret.

    New World.

The game looks and sounds wonderful, has great animations.

But everything else is just awful, it's a crafting simulator.

There's no game to the game, once you hit 60 all you do is run around with 50 people and press E on every chest in the game.

End game PvP 50 man roster controlled by 1 person... it's just horrible design.

It's just awful and I wasted time and money on it.

ESO - I bought the xpac thinking it might be good. It is still spammy ESO with no real combat system and meh everything else. I was lured by the "story side" of it.. and if the core combat is terrible, the story just doesnt fit for me. Waste of money. Never giving them any money again.

that's arguable. I've seen some pretty weird mmo's over the years that tried new things and got absolutely Nowhere. Anyone remember AutoAssault? lol
