Imagine releasing a review before the NA release. This review is based on other versions of the game then NA.

It's clearly "PAY 2 WIN", as I have already read on other sites.
But I don't expect to play this too seriously anyway, so I'll be fine.

How can we say it's P2W if we haven't even seen the NA release yet? Were basing the review on other regions. Seems ridiculous.

    It all fits!

Let's add to this that despite all the marketing team's claims and PR, the game remains unavailable in the Netherlands and Belgium.

    We all know why...

No, it's based on the NA PTR version of the game, which media had access to for the last month, and included all release content including level 60 characters. Additional content was used as a reference, such as developer interview comments for stances on monetization, and content put out by Amazon or Smilegate, etc.

Since when is "Endless grind" a con?

And no, I'm not defending Lost Ark, I don't like THEMEPARK linear games. BUT, I do like endless grinds which are fun.

    Example of fun endless grind:

RPG MO (Skilling MMO like OSRS but with no skill cap, aka endless grind but feels good because you don't need it but it's there)

Example of a not so fun endless grind:

Diablo III greater rifts/paragon leveling. (Even though they capped GRs at 150, endless paragon is a pointless system and makes the game feel like one of those idle games where the goal is to get another exponent, 10e5, then 10e6, etc...)

Lost Ark, might have a fun endless grind, but I doubt I will get there because what is the purpose of 1-50? It's a skipping quest dialogue simulator which no one wants yet everyone accepts it and says nothing. 90% of the playerbase won't even read the quest dialogue. Yet the next MMORPG will have millions of quests yet again. I don't get it. Logically, I don't get it.

You should title this as a review of other region's LA... this is misleading at best, and false advertising at worst.

Luv how the strange cultist fanbois jump on any perceived slight. - and will almost desperately nit-pick in their defense of their chosen holy-game. It's like a scholarly discourse on how many angels can dance on the head of pin, the desperate attempt to NOT be labelled as a pay-to-win, "oh no", "it's only pay for convenience", hate to break it to you, same thing. Ni-pick alllll you like, any CONvenience amounts to the same thing, time is money as the old cliche goes.

7.0 seems low but not unreasonable on a personal level. Because yes the game allows you to pay to shorten the grind of boosting your item level. And item level determines if you can access certain endgame content or not. But once you access it, then it's just an epeen contest as far as PVE goes.

As far as the endless grind, that can be seen as a pro or a con I guess. Would the reviewer hold POE's endless grind against it as well?

I'm absolutely sick of the daily/weekly grind that makes you feel like you HAVE to log in each day. But it seems core to how they control how fast you can progress, and at least you aren't forced to pay a sub.

This is a game you need to judge for yourself rather than rely on reviews.

Get the feeling the reviewer really wasn't on board for this style of game, and maybe is more into arena PvP games.

I 100% agree that players should judge for themselves, especially since this is a free game that really doesn't block off any content as a paywall.

As far as endless grind goes, you're correct it can be a positive or negative. I have thousands of hours into Diablo 2, hundreds (if not thousands) into Diablo 3, and a few dozen into POE (it never completely stuck, but I did hands-on previews with many of the endgame/ladder events).

I enjoyed the grind in both diablo 2 / 3 as it felt rewarding, challenging, and skill intensive. It was also very exciting to find new legendary items that offered unique and fun ways to play a class, or sometimes hit a crazy rare with insane stats that allowed a new build (crazy crit chances for example). I think the randomized elites with random abilities led to consistently dynamic and challenging fights. The visual effects and environment settings also played a huge role in keeping the game aesthetically pleasant.

In LA, I found the endgame to be beating my head against the same waves of enemies or same bosses over and over until I accumulated enough mats for an X% increase in some mundane primary stat. Guardian raids were really the only exception because the encounters themselves felt fun and fresh. However, I'm sure by the 100th time doing the same boss, even these will get stale.

Nearly endless grind + Incredibly boring leveling process = Money can provide quicker gear upgrades.

Maybe they wanted the game to be endlessly grinding and boring? Kerching!

Man,  it's really interesting to see people attempt to rationalize so they don't have to face the reality of the situation... that the review is the NA version.

If you didn't like what you read then you're going to be really disappointed because this is the NA review, and this site isn't the only one that posted their review today.

15-20 hours of slog? Wtf. This game should be a 4/10. "It's fun once you waste nearly a day worth of time on it." Doesn't seem like a 7/10.

The problems I have with these types of game is RNG. But I do see the hype for this game being the same as New World got. Can't wait to watch the show.
