Fortunately we know this will turn out well since developers never lie or go back on their promises.

    That's a pity. I probably won't play Palia then.

They're saying all the right things. Hopefully they stick to their word & their actions will prove their integrity.

If I play a F2P game & find it enjoyable I like to toss some real-life $ at it from time to time so a lot of their mentioned ideals I parallel.

Now just to wait & see then hopefully play.

It's a social, sandbox style of game with elements of Animal Crossing and Minecraft. Some combat is in the game but not the central focus. It's mostly crafting, building, cooking, fishing, land management, mini games, exploration, etc.

Learn to judge more superficially. Obviously art style tells you everything about a game.

Personally, I do feel like they'll eventually need to release some kind of paid expansion or something down the road if they go with this model and want to avoid the 'normal' cash shop practices of (which I'm fine with since I personally do not like loot boxes or gacha mechanics) or maybe even a sub that just offers more freedom, like bigger landplots etc. If its chasing to be a minecraft/trove-like game just with 'better' graphics, I think it'll do fine since there's still a market for mmos like that. Some people like to just focus on lifeskilling and exploring more so than fighting all the time.

I mean, it is alright to be skeptical, but don't just assume a new development studio with no track record of scummy monetization is just straight up lying about what they are planning.

It is not a minecraft like game, it inherits only certain ideas of it. It is more like a cosy world to run around in, socialize, craft, build, explore, craft, chat, dance, build, craft, sing, enjoy nice flowers ... you get the point. There will be some creatures and fighting involved, but you don't need to do it, if you don't want to.

And for all the pvp guys out there: no, there will be no pvp in game, because it is about cooperation, not competition.

It is kind of like Landmark. I'm interested both in the art style and the concept. Going to give it a try.

"They commit to being honest and transparent in their practices "

Has there ever, in the history of gaming, or companies in general, been a company that said "We are probably dishonest and will hide our practices behind many layers of disinformation?"

Not saying they ARE lying... but I think that line is standard boilerplate for most games.

Besides, as @torval once taught me, for some people, the cosmetics ARE the endgame, and it seems that this social based game will attract more than it's fair share of those folks. For them, this type of shop is straight P2W without even a chance to earn the premium items in game.

That said, since I've never spent a cent on cosmetics... I'm hoping to give this a try.

I like the art style will keep an eye on this since I adore animal crossing and I love building, cooking ,fishing and the other activities too. Actually the art style reminds me of a less colourful EQ3 art.

The main priority is community in this game, you have literally every other MMO with the things you want. You'll be okay.

I despise F2P models because in spite of the initial platitudes of "cosmetic only" and "no P2W" the fact of the matter is that at some point payroll and rent are due. Players aren't idiots and if they can experience 100% of your game for free that's what the vast majority will do. So what if you look like a homeless clown kicked out of the traveling circus, if you're playing shoulder to shoulder with the whales who dumped hundreds of dollars into their cosmetics then who really is the clown? Anyway, once the developers figure out that the players figured this out then suddenly boosters and critical quality of life add-ons show up in the shop. Just frickin figure out how much you need per copy of the game to be profitable and charge it already. It's the honest approach.

If I can't spend 20 bucks and beat the ever living hell out someone who's been playing for 10,000 hours, what kind of crappy game is this!

I want my P2W, and I want it in good sizeable chunks, so when someone uses skill and talent to beat me, I can swipe my credit card, and own that mf'ers ass, and shit on their skull.

    I mean.. Yay.. cosmetic.
