I'll probably get attacked for this, but New World absolutely won me over. I had heard of it while it was being developed, but it was from Amazon, so I figured it was probably a run-of-the-mill PvE raiding game with nice graphics. Near the time it launched, I somehow ended up learning that it actually had open world PvP as a focus, so for $40, I figured I'd give it a shot, and what I found was something that felt very much like the old school MMOs that I love with some modern flair. Despite the bugs and problems, I loved everything about it. Of course, most of those old school features (i.e., the non-hand-holding) have been removed, but it's still unlike any other modern MMO, so I keep playing.
FFXIV in modern age. The story from Heavensward and on was fantastic! A little lacky of motivation to play the end-game in all honesty, but mostly due to stuff in life getting in-between.
But Darkfall Unholy Wars, probably. I enjoyed Darkfall Online A LOT. Then came Unholy Wars and I spent a lot of time and effort building a community in that game.
