Archeage 2 will definitely be a game I check out. From what I understand however, Kakao's most recent fresh start server release for Archeage Unchained is more Seasonal in nature and is doing quite well for them.

Archeage had so much potential. NA Beta was an amazing time. Hopefully they've learned from their mistakes.

    What was Archeage's recent success?

I enjoyed it when I played.  The biggest thing fr me was that I reached end and cap too quickly.  I'm not a power leveler.  I only play a bit most days, so it's rare that I feel that there wasn't 'enough'

Archeage failed big time because they partnered with Trion, which had been a sinking ship for quite a while, and they of course mishandled the whole thing. If they had gone with someone who has had a lot of mmos under their belt, like NCsoft for instance, I think they might have fared better.

Also, I firmly believe that pvp-centric mmos just aren't as popular in the west... otherwise games like Mortal and Blade and Soul would be dominating the industry instead of the likes of Wow and ESO.

If you played Archeage NA at launch you would have seen how popular it was. I've never had so much fun PvPing in my life. Everything from great open world pvp to insane boat fights. People blockading important sections of the ocean. Being forced to kill them or find a way to pass by them. It was honestly epic. Then one day they ruined a major economical resource, and people started leaving in droves. It only got worse from there.

"Adding cash shops that sell pay-to-win items feels unfair especially when PvP is part of the games. We do not have any monetization information just yet but hopefully, ArcheAge 2 stays true to its predecessor and improves upon existing systems."

I will eat my adventurer's metal helm if the game does not have a cash shop with P2W items, indeed NFT's are quite likely. Any game released in two+ years' time is not going to have a better monetarization model than one out now, no escaping that.

I enjoyed the first one up till their first xpac where 2/3 of my group couldn't even log in and we missed a major land grab because of it. After that almost everyone quit within a couple weeks.

Other than that I did start to notice all the griefing by blocking trade routes in the safe zones with carts so people couldn't turn things in. Became very toxic by the time I stopped playing. I had heard it got better, that they went in an put in fixes to stop some of the griefing but this is one of those you fool me once type of things.

Hope it works out for those that want to give it a go but I most likely will have to pass on it till it has been around for a while to make sure they ironed out the issues from the first one.

Yeah, it did take them a while to do something about that. What made me end up quitting was just seeing a group of 3 dominating a capital city for a couple of hours. The battle of credit cards was never so apparent to me until that day (this was on f2p version, but still). That and I never cared much for the purpling system (allows you to attack members of your own faction at the risk of becoming a pirate/going to jail).

Been playing Archage f2p throughout the summer, the game has many players. Kakao has done a amazing job retaining people. Think I spent more money in Archeage over ther summer then any other game in the past 2 years.

Actually playing the game with the farming aspect for the first time, keep me coming back. So much in farming that can be done it is probably the best game in it's category for it.

Upgrading gear is much more straight forward and accessible. The fact that Kakao has created a non p2w subscription service should be noted as a positive. Both servers have a solid community.

It seems like game play is not the problem with this game. It is just they monetize it like a mobile phone game. They made enough money to make part 2, so clearly it is working for them.

Not sure why anyone thinks that will change in part 2. If you weren't down with part 1...it is going to go the same way in part 2.

ArcheAge was such a great game to start. It was ruined by their cash shop.

Just make it a sub game and leave the damn cash shop out and it will have promise.

The griefing, power-creep, content blocking to keep lower levels low, and the failure to fix the game breaking bugs, is why the first one failed. AA is one of the most open world games I have played that was also the most mismanaged. The publisher and developer alike only cared about the quick cash, not the long term.. That's why you have these ridiculous Fresh Start server programs now sprouting up everywhere. Why actually invest in new material when you can just retread it?

If this is where AA2 is headed then it will be another train wreck, albeit a pretty one, but still a wreck.

In this genre.  Other genres continue to enjoy releases that do not employ NFTs or cash shop monetization.

    1. Get rid of the action point system that limits your activities.
    2. Keep the botters from insta stealing land plots.
    3. Restrict P2W items in the marketplace.
    4. Upkeep tickets for housing shouldn't be so hard to maintain.

Those are my 4 worse complaints when playing ArcheAge. It was a fun game for a while and then it just felt like you only log in to drain your points and log out.

Are you talking about thunderstruck in the cash shop or something else?

Yeah, I was there in beta and early release too and was really enjoying myself until I ran into their cash grabs like that and the gear improvement chance items.

I played ArcheAge at launch, but I never cared about it "sandbox" aspects like building and crafting. I tried to play it like a WoW clone and that got boring about 2 weeks later. I am still not sure why the game failed, was it XL Games or Trion or both, but I don't know how ArcheAge 2 will do any better. I might try it if it's F2P, but I doubt I will remain long.

I understand that people do play these games daily but for me the biggest problem with Archeage and you might be surprised those of you who know my aversion to PvP was the way the life stock and plants continued to grow after you logged off.

I cannot play a game everyday just to harvest and husband  my crops and animals. I was constantly racked with guilt over a few days having not logged on to find my animals dead or diseased. It is not a good thing.

If Archeage 2 is a subbed game without a cash shop, no NFT's etc. then maybe, it would definitely be worth investing time into to at least find out. Not going to happen though, so it is a hard pass from me, i won't waste my time on games that are going nowhere.
