Yeah, seems to be a trend... mediocre moderators banning actual players who know the games they are playing, rather than the usual trolls who spam threads with false information about games they never played. I don't know why that happened to @Iselin, but I've never seen him rude to the point of requiring a ban, so I'm just wondering.

Super hyped for this. New World has really come a long way since release. Just praying there are no game breaking bugs with this major content patch.
Lol sorry, I didn't put 'lol' at you being hyped about the expansion, it was just more in reference of no major bugs on patch day. I think even fans of the game can expect major bugs on patch days with this game by name, its just more of a question of which kind. It'll be nice to mess around with the greatsword though. I've always been a fan of greatswords.
Perfectly understandable. I'm honestly not sure how I survived the first few months of economy shutdowns and dupes. Yet, somehow I still love the game.
Honestly, its easy to find a lot of fun in the game for a good couple of months with gathering, uping weapons and just exploring, which is what I did when it first came out. And you're absolutely right about it being changed alot since launch since the games original gearing system was absolutely attrocious and tedious to say the least. The game just suffers from an overall foundational problem in terms of its engine. These bugs will just keep popping up whenever they add stuff and they'll have to keep bandaid fixing until they actual address the real problem (which they wont even publicly admit is the real problem). I honestly prefer this game to Lost Ark if that's any indicating to how good I find the game. They could've easily given up on this title like they did the previous two announced titles (and however many unannounced ones) and stuck to publishing, but they're still trying and they should be commended for that. Hell, this game has been out less time than Elyon and that game is shutting down by the end of the year, so that's something to be proud of.
Running around gathering nodes is the new fun? I think I'll continue to let this sit idle in my Steam account.
Fair enough, to date I only refine gathered materials in town, haven't crafted much, rarely use the auction house and have no interest in owning a house really.
I have less than 10K gold.
What are these "essentials" you say I'll be needing.
At 60 and at end game if you are trying to min max your gear and want good gear it cost lots of gold to acquire whether you craft it or buy from the AH.
To craft it you first have to spend lots of time and gold to get your crafting levels up OR spend tons of gold in the AH for the right gear with the right combo of traits and stats.
I have like about 950 hours played before I stopped playing and while I didn't do wars or pvp I spent my time gathering, getting my crafting levels up, and trying to make gold while occasionally having pve fun with some guildies.
I currently have over 100k gold, and no I didn't cheat, exploit or buy it. I just grinded all fking day long, day after day farming nodes and crafting and earned it the old fashioned way.
When I quit I didn't feel like I had enough gold to buy a set of gear to be able to compete at a top level in wars or pvp or be godlike in pve especially not against the folks funding their gear through owning towns especially the ones with multi alts companies and raking in all the gold from taxes.
Letting companies be able to take town taxes to keep for themselves was a huge mistake and broke the game.
Not sure about the changes after I stopped playing but I truly think taxes should be tied to the town treasure and companies shouldn't be allowed to use it for anything other than town upkeep or to to pay for town stuff.
EDIT: it's kinda of cool demone Kim is still playing, I watched some of his videos before for various info gathering like nodes routes and other stuff.
BTW is chest farming in a huge laggy mob still the way to go to get your GS up to 60? I soppted playing not long after the gysum system came in.

So you must have had your own 1-man company since without it you're capped at 500K gold, are you not?

No there is no cap on gold or at least it's not 500k. Funny enough I have more gold than my company had in the company bank since we didn't own any towns.
Either that or I have over 100k gold. It's been awhile since I logged in so I might have the amount wrong. lol
Game is doing a 38gb update right now will check when it is done.

I might just be having old foggy memory and have over 100k gold instead of over 100mill.
That sounds like a much more reasonable high amount to have
But you're absolutely right about the inflated cost of gear in the current busy servers. Single bis items with the right stats and perks sell for 100K plus for just one piece.

It's quite possible, now that you have me thinking harder on it I think my long term goal was to get to cap and beyond. I will edit that other post once the game is done updating and I check how poor I am. It changes things somewhat 100k instead of 100m.

I saw a post by a guy recently who is starting a new character in what he calls "Ironman mode" although that's the wrong term for it since he's not deleting after death.
What he means is that he's playing totally self-reliant not allowing himself to use the trading post or trade with anyone else. He'll just use what he can craft or drops for him.
I might just do that myself

I wont change much long term. Sure it will be great at first but the gold issues is due to how it is generated in game and how it is funneled but soon enough it will go back to stupid inflated prices.
Doesn't help that the drop rate on things from mobs etc is really suck arse.
Brenics ~ Just to point out I do believe Chris Roberts is going down as the man who cheated backers and took down crowdfunding for gaming.
I also have over 50k gold constantly, and that's just because I buy crap regularly to try new weapon/armor combos, otherwise I'd probably be over 500k. There are some crafting resources that sell for quite a lot.

Clearly you know the secret to making good money, alas I can't say the same.
Leveling up I've pretty much run with faction gear plus the occasional drop.
I purchased an occasional earring or crafting bag, and kept my gathering tools on level from the Auction house.
So at level 53 I am at about 8K in gold, no house, and dressed in a uniform.
Is OK, thanks to all of the many great posts shared here today I'm having my doubts about playing NW over the long term, really isn't my sort of game in terms of design.
It's been fun though and a well spent $20 so no complaints.

@Iselin I totally agree, but they are already making changes to that.
Yeah I know and this video explains it quite well:
But look at the current numbers and the projected new ones at 3:49. 1.5 mil takehome per week is still quite a bit in a game that has earnings for everyone severely clamped down.
They need something to bring up the bottom earners like they used to have with fishing and low-level quest rewards until they took that away to combat bots. Gold drops from mobs like they also once had in beta would also help.
I guess you could always buy gold like that genius in the other thread said everyone will do in fresh start servers lol.
The income from territory ownership is out of control, it wildly inflates the economy and the average player has no chance of competing. IMO it needs to be removed or reworked. Maybe the gold earned can only be used for upkeep and a very small percentage for personal use.
Even turning that spigot off likely won't fix the economies, though.
And at this point, I'm not sure there's a way to fix them without screwing either the companies or new players.
Best bet as a new player is to find a company making gold and take your share.

I wasted a lot of coins buying stuff in the trading post. When I play on the FSS this time around I'm going to be a miser
I'm just going to spend the next couple of weeks chilling and doing the Halloween event for the Account-wide skin unlocks since we won't be able to do that in the FSS in November.

That said, my current server doesn't appear to suffer from the worst of it as far as I can tell.
