'Lore' is the easiest part of making an MMORPG.  Lore is nothing more than fiction, and you can usually find much better fiction at a book store.  Cheaper, too.

    Couple of key points

NDA remains solidly in place for the monthly tests

Access to the pre-Alpha VIP testing starts at $750 and up.

Nothing being tested is anywhere near a finished state, everything is still on the table to changed if necessary.

Yes, I realize that's why it's called pre-Alpha, just emphasizing that the game is no where near ready for release at this point in time.

2025 is now the optimistic forecast date IMO.

My issue with concept art is that it shows what is "not done."

It would be a lot better if they showed what is done. Or at the very least show the art, show what is done and say that "this is what we are going for and what the area will look like."

Kind of seeing the effects of not having a veteran leadership. "New" Lore ? Lore should've been done.

Yep this is the problem.  People are dreaming that there is all this stuff behind the scenes when what your are seeing is actually all there is to see.  Why are they assuming there is all this extra stuff.

Lore often is what keeps me playing a game, long after I should be done playing a game. So it's cool they are planing this but it's long past if this is a meaningful update. I just want to hear when Alpha starts. That's the step they plan to get a meaningful backer. Here is the real hope.

Not to be negative but it won't surprise me at all if they are still not out of pre-alpha at year's end.

On January 13, 2014, Pantheon: Rise of the Fallen was announced alongside a Kickstarter campaign.

Not only is PRE-ALPHA in the title this is what's ahead of it after NINE YEARS.
How are these kickstarter games showing concept art after almost a decade in development?

Kickstarter MMORPGs the sloth race of gaming development. I'm literally more excited about the cup of coffee I'm about to make.

    Sad...

    Sad Keanu Know Your Meme

Even worse is this is the one I'm looking forward to the most!! Pretty much just expecting disappointment when/if this actually releases. All of these kickstarter MMOs drain my excitement like a lich drains life force.

It's been what 8 years and they're not even in pre-alpha and you think they can release within the next 2 years. I think a realistic date would be 2030 and that might be pushing it...
If we are being "realistic" then the odds are quite good this one is never coming out.

At $750 a pop, you're not going to get enough people to even qualify as "testing". And then when they see what they're "testing", the chargebacks will cost you more in the end. Should have shut this amateur project down when McQuaid died. He was an unreliable schmuck but he at least knew people to get stuff done.

Their terms of service say no refunds for any reason. Even if they don't provide a game.

Like Star Citizen, you aren't "buying" anything, you are pledging to the possibility of a game, and you do not get your money back if no game releases.

End of 2021 Joppa the lead developer hinted his hopes was to see the game in Alpha in 2022. So we will see.
  • BrainyBrainy Member EpicPosts: 2,215

They hinted in 2014 it would only take a couple of years to finish.  We all see how that turned out.

I love this from the producers letter OCTOBER 2020

Now, onto Alpha. We do not have these dates yet as there are a lot of systems and content to test in PA5 and PA5 will last “as long as it takes.” We certainly are not going to spend years in PA5, but we will spend the time we need to get the game in a state where it is a playable, enjoyable game that covers a full progression path from 1-50. We are actively taking steps to improve our communication with you, so please know that when we are nearing the completion of PA5 we will make it abundantly clear.

Here is another duzzy producers letter MARCH 2021

The big word around the office lately is “Alpha One.” Today we are going to dive into what Alpha One means, why it’s important and what we are doing to get there.

These guys are some serious preplanners, laying out the Alpha tests a decade before they plan to actually go into alpha.

Also note PA6 is not even mentioned.

Well since they said they were not going to spend years in PA5 and years are going by, lets move to PA6 LOL, then we will not have technically lied.

    In December 2017

Lucy keeps pulling the football. Charlie Brown is gonna kick it someday?

Think you forgot they can also do a PA6, then PA6.1 .2 .3  forever

Pretty sure that dev team said PA6 was definetly the last one, but I cant find it so they probably scrubbed that.  They can just stay in PA6 forever thou.

At least future companies can take the lessons from this and learn how not to develop an MMO. Your avg indie developer could of gotten this thing done 5 years ago.

I think it’s more a matter of whether people believe fraud was involved.  I’ve never asked for a refund of any kickstarter but if I was a paid COE player I’d absolutely be pursuing whatever I could there.

I guess here the case would be as shown above:

If I pledged because the guy in charge literally said “It won’t be years” in 2020… yet it’s 2023… I think there’s a case to be made there. He didn’t say we hope or plan..  he said definitively that it would not take years.  When you are raising money you need to be responsible for what you say.

I dunno when it comes to kickstarter estimated delivery dates it's kind of amazing how far off so many of them are. Pantheon was 2017, Star Citizen was 2014, Camelot Unchained was 2015. It's almost like they were all lying to our faces to get money or were so utterly and completely clueless they had no idea it would take 6, 7, 8, 9 or more years longer to make the game... How am I supposed to take anything a company says seriously when they miss an estimated delivery date by years?!
