All the good  space ship names must be already taken, but at least they added the "Ironclad" to differentiate it from EVE Online's long famous "Drake" Battlecruiser.  ;)

Agree 100%. I've always felt super badass when I've upgraded to a new ship in the game.

Drake is the manufacturer's name while Ironclad is the ship name.

Have to give them credit for their good looking ships. I cannot play the game since it is in first person and I suffer from bad motion sickness in first person. I have made some progress in Cyberpunk 2077 but they have a tonne of customisation to enable fellow sufferers to reduce that issue.

I believe the newer games are getting better at this. I recall playing Half-Life for the first time and being totally shocked to get this massive headache and wondering where the hell it came from and not suspecting the game at all. That was my first experience with first person and then afterwards I became very wary of it.

Star Citizen has RELEASED!!! THEY'RE SHOWING OFF .... (puts finger in ear).

Wait, I'm being told that they didn't release the game, they just released another ship idea in case there ever IS a game, and they are showing that off. You can buy it, the ship concept, now for only $450! It's a "time limited" sale, so get yours before it is too late!

    Sigh.

Here's the thing I don't get about Star Citizen and really any game that has multi-crew ships: I've got my set of ships, you've got your set of ships. Both sets require entire teams to operate. Well I didn't drop hundreds of dollars on my ships to leave them in the hangar and go sit in a turret or manage shields all night. Neither did you. Where are all these players going to come from to run all these multi-crew ships?

Just seems like general human nature is at odds with the core design of this game. Maybe I'm underestimating people's willingness to do menial roles in a video game.

You can play SC in 3rd person...

You are...there are(won't be)any "menial" roles in SC from the sounds of things. Engineering and repair minigames as well as ship support roles will contribute to fun gameplay.
Now I understand some of the younger gamers might not appreciate working nice with others, but a fully stocked Org will understand and embrace certain roles during certain times.

It sounded to me like a generic fantasy name for a mercenary. :o

I'll disagree with you there and give an "it's about time."

I don't think any ship should ever be run by one person unless it's something small. I will add that they should allow for expensive npc mercenaries to run parts of a ship when a person can't be found.

I always imagined a fantasy game where ships at sea had actual crews and if a player couldn't be found one could hire an npc at the dock (or local tavern/bar/whatever.)

Well yeah I guess the NPC crew is what I'm getting at. I mean if you can fill in the blanks or run an entire crew with NPCs then suddenly this whole multi-crew thing makes sense from a logistics standpoint. However to my knowledge that doesn't exist and nothing is on the roadmap to add it in any sort of near or mid term. I remember Roberts talking about it at one point but it's so far on the back burner they had to knock out the wall behind the stove, add a hallway to a warehouse, and somewhere in a forgotten back corner of the warehouse next to the ark of the covenant from Indiana Jones are the NPCs crew for Star Citizen.

I'll pay more attention once this game gets closer to a reality. 2024 is not the year of Star Citizen.

Small ships should be run by one player, large ships by guilds, that is surely the best way to run a space game.

Yep, they are winning the marketing game.  Until the investors come for their payout....

The crowdfunded money they've made until now is peanuts compared with what they'll make with a proper release of Squadron 42 along with the Star Citizen player cap, qol and polish increase imo.

Don't know.  The problem with Crowdfunded games is that they have already raised money from the most likely purchasers of the game prior to it's launch.

Could the launch of SQ42 result in a big uptick in people buying it?  Maybe.  It could also be seen as a dud (regardless of how good the game is) because those of us who were interested in it already own it.

And they will continue to raise even more. Early adopters and crowdfund riskers are a drop in the mainstream bucket. Most mainstream gamers know nothing about the game cause it hasn't been publicized to the masses.

GTA might be the biggest and most well known franchise YET Rockstar still spends millions in worldwide massive marketing campaigns. Huge Outdoor posters and wall paintings, tv and bus stop adds and so on. That's how you reach the mainstream market which is huge.

CIG has done none of that, yet.

Do I need to remind how popular and varied are the actors featured in Squadron again?

At the very least it will be a spectaculat adventure / narrative game and at best a system seller and genre defenitive like Wing Commander.

Such amazing graphics.  So lifelike.  I still believe at least one of the actors will have passed before SQ42 releases

How ownership and risk come into play is also interesting and an opportunity for meaningful group/community building systems. Learning the ropes while crewing on vessels you can't afford is something that happens in the real world. I have sailed plenty of times without ever owning a sailboat by volunteering as a crewmate during some of our local races here. Learned a lot, had a blast, and all while I was still living on a student's budget. I could imagine a new player to the game checking some "Crew Wanted" board and serving on a larger ship that way.
