The game follows the same copy & paste game mechanics of many other theme park multiplayer online games. There is no RPG to it. No immersion whatsoever. In my book any game that has RPG in it should have immersive qualities to it by default. In TL I have a hotbar for my skills, QTEs for blocking and dodging, stupid ways to progress character and gear, while on a rail for a story that no one gives a damn about. I played Where Winds Meet beta and I cared deeply for the immersive story. That was an MMORPG game done right.

TL doesn't do anything new. It's more of the same. Some corporate interests got involved and said hey, this is what my market research is telling me, that is trending among these people called gamers so lets make a product that they may spend a great deal of their time and money on so we can get rich!

Real developers and publishers care about their game and try to do something new. No Man's Sky is a great example, now they are creating Light No Fire. They are creating their own formula for success and hoping their fans and other players will come to them. They are taking a risk.

The majority of big name developers are just pushing the same old tired formula on us for years and as a result we only get more of the same games that are trending at the time of inception. That's why there has been a LOT of cozy sim games coming.

If people only make games in genres that are trending and not on what their are passionate about and want to share with the world, then we'll see games that look like they were made on a fcking assembly line. Generic, copy & paste, same old bullshit as the last generation of games based only on what is trending currently.

Issue is nobody wants to spend millions of investor money to build an MMO that might work, They would rather use a formula that has been proven to work. The only MMO that is still doing well that tried something different is EVE. pretty much every one of the top 10 MMOS are all the same. WoW, FFXIV, guild wars 2, Elder scrolls online, RuneScape all have their own niche but are fundamentally the same.

Nothing makes me happier than a free trial. I hate the art style, but the game looks decent enough. If gameplay is good, I can suck it up when it comes to the art. I hated the art style of Archeage, which saved me money in the cash shop, but I really enjoyed the gameplay of Archeage and played it quite a bit.

I know some people prefer the WoW cartoon style, others prefer photo-realism.  There are already enough of those WoW clone looking games like Tarisland out there.

I played on the Korean version. Nothing special; a bit worse than an average mmorpg in 2024, in my opinion. I get bored after a few days.

Can't wait for Ashes. No box price, no 8 different currencies we see again and again. Just a sub and a game. Everything that makes your character more powerful will need to be earned by playing the game.

Downloading it right now but eh dunno what I saw in twitch streams didn't really look very good tbh.

Brenics ~ Just to point out I do believe Chris Roberts is going down as the man who cheated backers and took down crowdfunding for gaming.

the graphics are amazing , the traveling is cool, the "Zelda-hook" ? tons of fun !

the game would be amazing as exploration , plataforming , single rpg game

seamless world , i travel from 1 zone to another with teleport and 0 loadings.

but its a mmmorpg , and here come the "cons"

combat feels like its made of plastic and no its not fantastic.

story looks "good" , but its feel like 90% run from npc A to npc B , FFXIV style. At least traveling around is kinda fun....for now....40h later u are tired of it prolly.

it similar like Gw2 more like Gw3 , 2 weapons with skills and passives that u can "slot" , and upgrade

there is enchanting for gear and skills u need to hit 100% for lvl up , sometimes u gain 20 or 80.

u have a "journal" that u complete things to get rewards , from quests, to world events , is kinda like a "guide of what to do"

maybe the game later growns on u and dungeons / mass pvp is fun enough

[e] Just downloaded and tested it for 3 minutes. Wow... I am surprised just how bad the animations look and how clunky the combat feels. This is almost as bad as ESO. Add Lost Ark endgame mechanics to the mix and this game is a hard pass.

Exactly, a sea change occurred in the noughties that led to players paying to avoid group content or MMOs without any sort of grouping.

I played it for about 45 minutes last night. It's ok. As typical with Asian games, it's very cinematic which I don't usually care for and [esc] past. Combat feels a bit BDO like, though a little less over the top like BDO.

I play it for a bit while I can and it's free. I don't know it I will be purchasing it yet.

Incredibly well optimized, good graphics, great environment and refreshing combat (think BDO minus the BS)

Don't listen to the h8ers and try it for yourself.

Obviously I've only played the open beta for a day but it was an excellent start for me.

Performance is really good. No queues. But my god the endless tutorial and cinematics. By the time the main cinematic is done I'm already bored. My son got stuck during the story tutorial because an NPC wasn't there that was supposed to be to let him progress. He logged out and back in then it was there so he could progress. Only real bug I saw.

The combat is... really weird. It's like they couldn't decide on action or auto tab target. Combat just doesn't feel good or intuitive at all and I've been playing MMOs for 24 years. It's like a really bad version of GW2. Ranged feels better than melee for sure. If your melee or have to move around a lot it's just not very responsive feeling.

There doesn't seem to be a keybind option anywhere so stuck with all the defaults which is really annoying. First thing I like to do is customize my layout but that doesn't seem possible. The whole menu system is beyond clunky. I can't seem to find anything. I can't even find a settings option.

I'll give it some more time to try to figure it out but so far it's very meh for a AAA game studio.
