    I have 2 PS5s
I have zero interest in this.
Not sure, other than the FOMO crowd, what group they are going for here.
I also wonder if it will be worth it from an ROI perspective.

Been playing on consoles since the 80s but 3 years ago made the switch to PC and haven’t looked back. Besides Nintendo all the games seem to make it to PC eventually.

I think they are going mostly for those who are buying a new console anyway. People constantly buy new consoles, and this should get many big spenders to choose Playstation instead of XBox.

Whether anyone who already plays PS5 upgrades or not is less important, since consoles have low profit margin anyway. More of the profit is made through selling software, services and accessories to existing owners.

Agreed but what number of consumers does that number represent? PS5 has sold tremendously well already. If their target demographic is those without a console or are looking to buy this or that they are going to struggle to deliver on their sales goals and will struggle to deliver on a favorable ROI. Add to this it is a $700 USD console. I am just not seeing it.

Who constantly buys consoles? You use the current gen until you basically can't anymore and upgrade. I wanted a PS5 but for the... 12-18 months I had money for it I couldn't find it. After that, the... less than a handful of exclusive games I wanted for it weren't worth purchasing the damn thing anyway. I'd buy the next gen, if in price range, when I had money.. But I feel consoles, at least in my instance aren't worth it. I've got a pc capable of making them footnotes now, and while I love SOME of the console exclusives, I also like my pc controls... I guess more than any console now....

An $800 system with the drive, which has pretty good specs tbh, isn't that bad? If Sony could ship a minimal like operating system (think a more robust browser, partner with google for basic word processing, email), that comes as standard with a mouse and keyboard and supported a closed eco system kinda like Apple's, I think this would do really well, even beyond how well already does.

Those wanting to take the dive into PC's would have a reason not to bother with a $1k total package price tag. Especially when a gaming PC will cost you twice as much. Sony's culture toward gaming would have to shift more toward the way Microsoft does with Xbox and I just don't see that happening anytime soon.
Every time Goonsquad/SA/DS post salt on Star Citizen, I spend more money on it. Every time a mentally disturbed former backer or Elite CMDR toxic emo comments, I spend more money on it. Every time they refuse to answer why they spend so much time arguing about a game they don't even like, I spend more money on it. Want to watch the world burn because you can't have your way? You got whats coming to you.

I am just praying all the games I want to play come on PC. I only have a PS4 and my Xbox is a 360 probably long dead. Well there is always emulation  :p

    These numbers are not current.

Sony shared that in Q1 2024 (which the link does not show) they sold 2.4 million PS5s. I am one of those btw.

48,000+ on this one poll but there are poll after polls of people not seeming interested in what Sony is trying to do here.
On top of that, the PS5 price went up in some regions and the controller prices just went up worldwide.
Their revenue strategy is a bit confusing.

Probably out of 40k users who voted no, half already owns a PS console , 5 or 4 and the other half, an Xbox. Also , add the "not interested in buying ANY console" in the 40k too since my half/half is a bit .. biased!

Anyway! I find it very good, that 15%, 7-8k from that 48k are willing to buy the PS5 Pro. That is a lot actually.

    What's confusing?

Is worldwide inflation leading to out of control currency conversion confusing?

Profit margins on hardware are razor thin so a weak Yen could cost Sony millions if they didn't raise prices.

Also, component costs are not going down because only a handful of production companies makes all the electronics for the entire world.

I think players who aren’t gamers and perhaps younger players with limited income buy consoles over a pc.

years ago a friend who liked games was given a pc but didn’t like the price tag of upgrading components or even researching them. He also didn’t like dealing with issues to get certain games running.

He bought a console and never looked back.

Heck if they were more powerful and I could reliably use a mouse and keyboard I’d make them my staple machine.

I cannot remember the last time I used a disk drive.

It is odd that they'd even offer a disk drive; or talk about a price without it.

Last night I was reminiscing about the last time I stood in line at a store for a video game release (Burning Crusade WOW expansion). Now I am trying to remember the last time I bought a game on a disk. I think during covid I bought one of those puzzle game complications at Wal-Mart for like $10.For my PC or our Xbox, I truly cannot remember the last time we bought a game other than in the store via direct download. The last one may have been the ESO collector's edition at launch 10 years ago.

PS5 has sold 61.7 million units compared to PS4's 117 million units. PS5 sales should be slowing down since it's already older product, but they should still have potential to sell more.

Also one of your links said that PS5 sales forecast for this fiscal year is 18 million units, so if anything my earlier comment about them selling more than a million consoles per month was conservative estimation.

Also I don't understand why you're complaining that my numbers aren't current. The link I posted has same numbers as both of the links you posted.

EDIT: Did you perhaps miss that the Q1 2024 means Q1 for Sony's fiscal year, which is April - June. It does not mean January - March even if it's named Q1 because fiscal years are not the same as calendar years /EDIT.

The product doesn't come with the vertical stand ($29.00).
I hear all these complaints about the economy and yet this sort of thing is going to sell.

I don't know what is real anymore.

Can get some decent pre-built rigs for around the same price. People need to stop wanting playstation temporary exclusives so much. The only thing I feel is worth paying for on just exclusivity alone is the switch since Nintendo is stubborn.

Add a disk drive and full backwards compatibility all the way back to PS1 and I'll give you 700$. Otherwise, nope.

Another site I frequent is discussing the ramifications of this reveal on the eventual Switch successor's launch price. Interesting theories about what N will do based on how well this goes.

I just checked Newegg and for $700 (without going over) the best I saw was a pre-built with an I5 and a RTX3060 which would be about on par with a PS5.
