you may not agree with what there saying, and you may think its stupid, but posting with the intent of getting them annoyed is just stupid.
Why try to start arguments, is it fun, does it make you feal better? please, try to be a mature, I knoew its easy to be a jerk on the internet, but seriously, theres no point to it , and its uncessisary.
after 6 or so years, I had to change it a little...
Munki, this isn't about stirring people up or being a jerk. This is about speaking realistically about the complex nature of business and entertainment. Having ideals and dreams is a wonderful thing, but the rubber hits the road at some point and reality takes shape. Understanding the world you live in; adapting and adjusting to that world goes a lot further toward a mature attitude and expression of opinion than simply being a deaf-mute and letting idealists vent their emotional angst against reality.
Am I sitting here ridiculing people? No. Am I simply trying to start arguments? No. Is there a point to what I'm saying. Damn straight there is. If you like, I'll make it again, but I think you have understood what I've said.
let them have there idea, let them try things. Nothing groundbreaking ever happens when you dont dream, or try for things that seem silly.
If nobody ever dreamed or tried stupid things, we'd still think the world is flat, that the sun revovle around us, computer games wouldnt even exist, heck most things wouldnt excist.
You have to encourage people to dream, to think stupid things. This is a forum about games, not a business enviroment, I think they realise that this probably wont work, but maybe sombody will see it, and get them a url to somthing that might interest them, or sombody might say hey? why not... lets try to make somthing like that.
your cant not try somthing just because when you look at it from a business angle and you do the math and economically it wont work...

There's a pretty big difference between "don't have the code anymore" and "progressed too far".
Modified code is not the original code. That is exactly like saying that Chevy doesn't have the original blueprints for the Corvette, because EA does not have the original code anymore.

Version Control manages state of code. I seriously doubt they don't have an archive of the state of the code just prior to release. I don't doubt, however, that they have progressed their integrated systems to a point where plugging in old code would not be feasible.
Look, I'm not arguing about whether or not they have some gleaming copy of code sitting on a setup CD ready to install on the server. But since an ealier reader suggested that OSI "lost" the code, I couldn't let that go by without refuting that point. People take those kinds of statements as fact, even though it's hearsay, and it's a preposterous idea.
