Ive been Dieing to see the Warhammer series in action, the strategy pc games to date have been mind blowing. I downloaded the trainler and it did its job well enough for me to sitting on the edge of my seat waiting for the release.
It will be very interesting to see all the Races develope and the buildings in FP, thats one of the biggest drawing factors of WoW.
I just hope Warhammer is not going to be a let down...
Vanguard : Saga of Heroes, well Vanguard actually defeated WoW in a poll 21 for vanguard to WoW. and there's about 8 Burning blade high end guilds moving to vanguard at release.
Well if any game is going to take a chunk out of WoW's popularity its going to be Warhammer...Same game dynamic and a lot of concepts and systems stolen persay from Warhammer developments combined with mythics reputation as being the best pvp sytem developers it shouldn't be a contest but we'll see, affordability and balance will be the two issues to deal with...
My personal favorite is SUN, I can't wait for this game, webzen as a company is enough of a reason to play...It won't be as big as WoW or Warhammer but it will likely capture many of the serious players if they have a solid pvp system in the game...It would have the potential to capture a much larger audience except for the foreign development and the graphical requirements of the game...However for serious players that want the graphics and the pvp the game may be just what they've been looking for...Many of the more casual players will likely stick with Warhammer as the game will likely be less competative in the nature of the game play and the graphics requirements will be kept lower in order to compete solidly with WoW...watch for this company in the future now that it has made the move into the market...
A game that i'm going to keep my eye on as we learn more is Aion, although developed by NCSoft the company is slowly improving where it has problems and hopefully this game can be everything that it looks like it may, with the detail as intent as character interactions with the environment including such things as weather, temperature and possibly even factors such as humidity, it will be another highly graphic intensive game but has the potential to take the serious gamers to a whole new level of realistic play...
I heard lots of bad things about D&L. Its getting bad reviews across the board o nthis site as well as its own site. Am I missing something or have they fixed alot of the issues? It doesn't look good for them though and I don't beleive they will even come close to WOW.
The game has potential with it's new ideas and I truly wanted to try it even if it was a filler for the next 2-3 yr mmo.
I'd say it's certainly Chronicles of Spellborn...it's got a lot of potential and great graphics. Though - Saga of Ryzom's Ring 2 might change that all and bring a great twist in HOW mmo's are being played, this tool might change it all ... Power to the players
vanguard will be the next big one, i dont really think its gonna hurt WoW, but alot of the eq1 people and the WoW people who wished that eq2 was gonna be like eq1 but better looking are gonna head to vg, plus all the people who worship brad mcquaid like he was brad pitt are gonna give it a try, and spellborn will be really good if it lives up to the hype and will probbly hurt WoW more than VG will, but that aside its hard to say, most people will keep their accounts active with other games for a long time, cause they spent a good chunk of their lives playing that game, so it takes 6months to a year to see who really is hurting who

Chronicles of Spellborn does indeed have potential the game developers just need to find a better way to exploite the features more productively, which is the case with most of the up coming and todate already released MMOs. The biggest problem that removes the fun out of some of the MMO's ive played recently, is the venturing out of town is no longer real time... If you know what i mean, it takes the feel out of the game. Like Guild wars and such. Just hope that the change that aspect with all the new up coming games. Dont know about you guys, but games like WoW, you go venturing or questing and you see other players doing their thing makes it feel more like you are there. well most games work well with out the features.
spell born look tight, but no way in hell compete with WoW, i mean have half of you seen wow? played it? only blizzard can bring a game better then wow cause they have the money to from all the wow players, they created the best mmorpg, and if any of u dobut it then ur not a hard core gamer, WoW is the best mmo out there atm, and its gona be VERY VERY hard to top that game...
Insulting people as gamers doesn't make you right in any way. It just means you're incapable of being open minded. Yeah sure WoW rocks, it rocked before it caught that kind of revenue but they have alot of competetion to tend to with NcSoft, Square Enix (both who are a MAJOR rivals keeping up pretty well with player numbers) as well as newly emerging rivals who're producing some amazing ideas - if you knew anything about whats going on in the modern MMORPG envoirnments you'd also know that Blizard have begun to lose gamers to other titles such as CoV, GW, FF XI and EQ2.
Hardcore gaming isn't finding one game and giving up on playing the rest, it is playing a game enjoying it but hunting for something better and btw there is always something better in development.
I would have to say that URU Live will be the next big MMORPG. Despite the fact that it's an unorthodox MMO title, it has the potential to appeal to a wide range of people (like the MYST series).
As before, yes the new games have to go far to even compete with WoW, the thing is now they can at least look at the competition between the new titles and the old, i'm refering to the producers of the new games. In the past there was a lot of guess work in the production. Now we have comparison mile stones like WoW. This in its self opens new doors for the Game developers to be able to Judge which game devices will make a hit. So pre judged games like Warhammer, will most certainly be competition for some of the more popular released titles. As stages of development progress, as we have all faced one time or another in the "gaming industry"(which sounds more like work than play). For the servival of any title is to get one up on the competition, how ever for the last few weeks the amount of post supplied here for new releases suggests that developers have done a good deal of work to create an intrist for new titles. And they have done a very good job. Seeing as there is such a veriation in intrists in the game features... to cut short before this becomes a 29 page review on tech and game development, the coming months are going to be very interesting as we experiance all the new games(enjoyment and dissapointment). Some of the views here will probably change. One thing is certain, its going to be a major drain on any serious gamers budget.
Hey its all good. Only if major Wars could be sorted out online!
Originally posted by Jennbee I think we'll see a mass exodus from WoW as new titles start coming out in the months ahead. Cant say for sure where the players will go, but if I had a nickel everytime I heard someone say, "I'm just waiting till something better comes out to quit WoW", well then...i'd have a shiatload of nickels
Everyone is always waiting for something better before they leave any game. There is not a single game on the horizon that can think of competing with WoW period. There are just not developers that have the capital to bring the whole package blizzard has come with. SoE ruined all their credibility with SWG and Microsoft is still clueless with MMORPG's. Mighty EQ2 tried and failed miserably, Guldwars failed miserably as did Lineage 2.
To be a WoW killer it does not only have to be a better game it also has to have equal backing, development and backstory. A friend of mine the other day was telling me about this upcoming game in development thats gonna be a "WoW-killer". Onelook at a screenshot told me all I needed to know. 90% ofthe people that play wow would not be able to load the game, most of your video cards would explode if I said the games name.
Fact there are no franchises left out there ready made for an MMO. Making a new franchise is hit and miss and most of theother franchises that come out are really stupid ideas.
To cut into the over 5 million WoW subscribers you have to have
A) Mass appeal- a good deal of the players of this game is someone mother and father as well as their kids and the grandparents. Ive been in a raid with 3 generations of one family before.
Deep pockets- it takes a lot of money just keeping a game with that many servers running. I can't imagine how much blizzard is spending in the current replacement of all the servers with new hardware.
C) A really good Director/Producer. You can hire the best programmers and graphic artists in the world and a game will still suck. You have to have a person to have a vision and keep it fresh.
Most people that don't play WoW fall into one of 4 categories. They can't play because they can't pay for it. they can't play because their computer can't handle it. They don't think they have time for it. Or, they don't play MMO's anyway.
Im a WoW player and played many many MMO's before. Im not, however, a blizzard fanboi. If a game came outthat was better than WoW i'd be all over it. The problem is having played many games; been a GM in a few, I'm a realist about it. the next great game is probably gonna be the upcoming expansion for WoW, and after that WoW 2. It will be a while before anyone cuts into this games playerbase because its still growing. Yup people quit WoW every day. and for every onethat quits 10 more are standing in line at Best Buy witha box in their hands. Hell most of them come back within a month or 2 of hopping from game to game. the grass always seems greener till you realize thats notreally grass over there.
it'll actually be one to come out of the Indie ranks, I imagine.
Originally posted by shogge what do you think will be next big MMORPG (in 6 months to 2 years) ? whats the game everyone speaks about like it was with WoW earlier?
pimo1 has got some very good points. Yes WoW has got an increadible story line, and I agree that Guild wars is a horrible failer. When I joined this site, I was hunting the altimate MMO, and currently it is WoW. I've just started my new tank and the game just gets more and more interesting as one goes on. Its the vibrance in the game detail that attracts me the most, it simple feels more solid that Guild Wars(besides it runs better).
The fact of the matter is for a game to even compete with a game so well developed, excluding the fact its growing. It will have to be damn amazing. That alone is something we are all waiting for. The attraction to DD online was the back story, however I do enjoy WoW more. The only other title that has more backing in story Would be Warhammer, yes there might be some graphics card explodage. Hey thats life.
A prefect Example of a single player eat my PC alive game is Oblivion, Its still so amazing. I truly hope that some of the newer titles will be able to compete simply because, it will be amazing to see something as good as WoW. The story is there! And possible future threads that Warhammer can take are as strong. I've seen some of the screen shots and Im not going to judge the book by its cover, simply because there is always going to that Dissapointment factors. We all hope, some pray thats not the case. Who knows. Besides some times a sweating pc has advantages(not sure what they are), But it could give you time to make a warm beverage or two? or maybe its your upgrade Rooster screaming at you!
