Yep, as amazing as it seem, I surrender the whole MMORPG genre, for how long I don't know. But at this rate it seems for a good while.
I have been in the online gaming for ages. Starting way back with the classic 2D Runescape then over to Star Wars Galaxies, the game no other game could fill out.
After SWG hit the graveyard and I was chased away I have been searching and searching for something that could possible match the game in deepness and variety.... but there simply was none to be found.
WoW? Dunno but I really just don't like this game. Of course by all the hype you think it MUST be good but when I sit down and start playing I get so overwhelmed by it's simplicity and monotonous art of gaming that I simply feel like a shadow copying the object of which made me...
EQ2? No, feels like a WoW copy in most ways. Items dependant and levels ...
EVE? No... great idea and great game, but I want it on the ground of preferably space, not all the time.
DNL? Hah, give me a break. Really, even worse than SWG today.
When you once start with MMORPG's it's like it's the ultimate way of gaming ... you get so sucked into it. You can't possible think of playing something else as your main game. But now, bah, I have tried many and played em even if I didn't really like em that much because I have to play some MMORPG. But now it feels like it doesn't matter anymore.
I think about starting up Battlefield 2, StarCraft; BW and maby even Guild Wars again. I've had it of today's time sinking MMORPG's who deliver nothing but grind and farming... I will go in for skills and fast-paced action straight down.
I'm sure there are many of you out there who feel the same and are extremely close to letting go of everything like me. Since I feel that's about the majority of the people here does, dream on, look and talk about future MMORPG's who might just be the one for you.
If you want to play with me in WC3: TFT (DOTA MAPS), StarCraft: BW, Battlefield 2 or maby something else give me a little message
And yup feel free to say whatever you want wether it means something or not

The Saga of Ryzom could be worth a try, I know quite a few SWG players who really enjoy that game for the open skill system and 'sandbox' world. Give the free trial a go.
Although i think the servers are down till thursday for an oil change.

Read this link about a description for an MMORPG that I would move heaven and earth to get made and see if it interests you. I have been playing MMO's for years myself and am becoming somewhat skeptical about their future. One of the biggest problems with them, in my opinion, is that they just become too repetitve after only a few weeks and people lose interest. I can't guarantee that this idea would provide unending fun, but I do believe that it would provide a certain ebb and flow as empires rise and fall that could keep gamers interest for a very long time. I get anxious to play this game just thinking about it.

I'm having a blast.
Nice speech. I give you about a week.
Just do what I did and stop caring. When I stopped trying to re-invent WoW in my mind I started enjoying it. Now I play for like 5 hours per week, mostly with my wife (we have a pally/priest duo going) and I just take it as it comes. Its fun.
Other than that I still play lots of BF2 which just never gets old.
But I am with you on the way you feel. I guess Im just a little more optimistic that the games coming out in the next 12 months might breath some life back into the Genre.
Age of Conan looks like its really got serious potential..... I admit the rest dont really... but 1 out 10s not bad lol...
Ok your right... MMO's suck

I haven't been subscribed to anything for a while now but I haven't given up hope. I have faith in Pirates of the Burning Sea and Conan... though my faith has let me down in the past
It's not the companies fault that you cannot enjoy any mmorpg out there, or not for long.
Sure some companies screwed up big time, so what? That doesn't mean that every company is going to do that in the future. And i highly doubt that you've tried every mmo/rpg.
Oh and if you like bf check out: http://www.redorchestragame.com/
Btw: "Good" mmorpgs coming this year
-Conan
-Potbs
-Gods and Heroes
good luck finding that ultimate mmorpg out there man. seriously. if you do happen to find it, let the rest of us know so we can give it a go too`!!
could we please get correspondent writers and moderators, on the eve forum at mmorpg.com, who are well-versed on eve-online and aren't just passersby pushing buttons? pretty please?
I've been in the same position as you for quite a while now. Nothing has seriously captured my interest to warrant me actually playing. I've read the forums for most games, with serious potential interest in DAoC, EQ [Combine Server], Lineage II (hardcore Asian grinders - be still my beating heart. Whaddya mean, there's no Lucy Thai ingame!?) and SoR.
With the exception of EQ [pre-SoL], no game fully ticks off my checklist, although Eve came close - so very close, as I subbed twice over an 18 month period. The lesson here is that it is not mandatory to play a MMO, as there are plenty of other forms of (gaming) entertainment. As much as I value multi-player over the single-player experience (with rare exceptions such as Civilization & Morrowind), it is not worth playing what you feel to be a mediocre title (and paying a subscription fee) just to have that multi-player feeling.
Now that my new Pc components have arrived (and the daunting task of assembly), I'm really excited about being able to run various Morrowind mods. Yes, I realise that MW is single-player but the community support is second to none, and greatly enhance the game - making it more rich and alive.
Don't think of it as a retirement - think of it as a sabbatical. I'm planning to try AO [Anarchy Online] as a froob, as I was first interested 18 months ago (Dec 04), but rejected it due to its age. So what has changed? Nothing except my attitude. You have to realise that you will never experience the same gaming nirvana that you experienced playing pre-CU SWG (likewise, EQ for me). Instead of a futile attempt to recapture that experience, take some time out and step away from MMOs. When you come back, take a look at the titles with an unjaundiced eye and see if any capture your interest. Interests do change, people have the ability to adapt.
Whatever you decide to do, do not stew in your own bitterness, glibly playing MMOs just to recapture that virgin gaming moment. That only leads to that 'burnt out' feeling.
Hope it works out for you.
Regards,
Riotgirl

I haven't seen any MMO's I'm excited by except Huxley which is a year away.
Gods and Heores maybe, if I'm really bored. This year hasn't been an MMO year for me. I'm not prepared to hemorage money unless I am actively excited by it.
If you are looking for Lucy Thai in Lineage, get yourself one of these.

Well durahell mate, as you know me im always looking for a new mmo. Can't say i dont's share your feelings, but after my years of DAOC i would never give up this genere. I guess it will get better (or not) but i will always give new mmo's a shot. And if i don't like them, well then I move to the next one.
Btw, if you start with BF2 tell me
This is a cry for help.
can i have your stuff?
==========================
Personally Im going bored with mmo's as of late. My first was shadowbane and that was fun I can honestly say and then SWG-- and that was a blast too. From there I went to DAOC and the pvp was great and then played WoW-- had a pretty good time but it never got me as excited as swg or daoc did. There was just something so interesting about swg and then the RvR of daoc was so exciting.
Now I recently quit WoW for the 2nd time. This time its for good. But Im at a loss as to what to play. I tried a free eq2 trial which imo probably didnt do it justice because I couldnt even get off the lowby island to see what the rest of the game was about or see pvp. Id play EvE but I too want a game thats on the ground. Final Fantasy Im told is the grind BEYOND....eh no thanks. I played ac, ac2, saga of ryzom(that game sucks--nothing like swg..sorry) guild wars was horribly simple and boring, city of heroes I hear is INCREDIBLE for 3 weeks and then a grind.
I bought the expansions to daoc and its ok but I still feel bored. So I guess Im just waiting for that new game to swallow me again. Warhammer looks good---Heros Journey looks interesting, Chronicles of spellborn, age of conan-- all of those look very interesting and fun but there not out yet so bleh till they do come out :P
If anyone has any suggestions of good betas out-- let me know.
Thanks Riotgirl
Well, it's always "that" with MMORPG's that they are so HUGE and overwhelming. Everyone play them, they are the new "it" everyone is expected to play. And if you once have fallen for this type of open online gaming you WILL never ever really leave it, unless it LEAVES YOU. Which I pretty much can say about this situation.
As you say about adapting it's almost as I've been forcing myself to adapt to different MMO's that I've hoped could bring me this incredible feeling of which I experienced playing my first one (and my best one).

Hi mate Yes but I've had my hope burnt and stomped upon so many times now that I've become so numb to this whole thing. I've just had it simply.
I will check in of course and follow up threads about future MMORPG's, though I will not take anything for granted of course.
Stepping out of the MMORPG world feels very strange, no monthly subscription is running and no game of which I can log onto and roleplay and have a nice roleplay moment exists atm.
It simply feels that I've made my gaming into "playing games" again instead of "worlds" xD Something like that.
And yes, I will start with Battlefield 2 by the way Whenever I can find it cheaper than 50$.
