Best graphic engine ever

Giak82Giak82 Member UncommonPosts: 15

Which MMORPG do you think have or will have the best in-game graphic? Divide between Released and In Development.

For me:

Released: Lineage 2

InDev: dunno very...maybe Age of Conan

When talking graphic engine - i imagine you talk performance + ability to show advanced graphic. And not state of the art in the game ?

    Anyway

The most powerful (that has all the eye candy built in - and i am talking pixel shading refracting shaded bump maped bonanza here)graphic engine goes to EQ2 - it also wins the worst performance award :(

Smoothest performance goes to WOW, and Lineage 2

Now engine that marries both of those ... well we will still have to see that one

EQII has the best graphics engine ever, no question about it. For a MMO, of course. Second comes Guild Wars.

Unreal 3.0 Engine.  It's use in Huxley simply looks amazing.

Currently, the Unreal 2.0 engine renders the graphics in such games as Lineage 2.  However, there arew a few problems with using this engine.  There are alot of bugs you have to work around and figure out what it happening; like understanding how the unreal engine display's polies.  Also alot of the editing is highly user unfriendly like when your doing terrain; your often going to open the actor info for that terrain.  However, it is alot more user friendly then other engines.  Anyways they fix and upgrade alot of stuff in the Unreal 3.0 engine like normal mapping and HDRI lighting.

I also am looking forward to the Project Offset engine as it offers real-time post render effects like Motion Blr.

well for an MMO probably Lineage II

But for any game I think the Half-Life 2 Source engine is probably the best. It has great physics, nice graphics, stability, and it runs well on crappy computers (my friends p3 1ghz can run it).

For best graphic engine overall i would have to say the CRYSIS engine is the best

They started working on it a few years back with the game Farcry, which is still pretty sweet by todays standards, Now they've just improved on it once again with this clip from a new game coming out called Crysis that just makes me think  "holy crap, i'm going to need a new video card, and possibly a new computer".

Haven't seen anything that stands above the rest in online games,
i think EVE has great graphics in it's own rite, WoW has the cartoony fantasy RPG thing down pretty good, some of the ones that aren't cartoony are all good for their own reasons.

    Nothing too amazing,... yet

honestly and i will explain why. Ultima Online. WHY??? you ask. well i like playing games and that is what i want to play A GAME. i like some emersion but i dont want it to be a drug. like my wife takes it shes a hardcore powergamer i look at her with sympathy.

the more the graphics get more real the less and less i will play mmo's/consoles.

also i have been noticing less and less details and diversety in games with "better" graphics.

I'm gonna vote for Ryzom here. To me the best engine has GOT to combine look-and-feel with performance. COH has a better look-and-feel (IMO) but its performance (at the moment at least, since I7) utterly blows chunks just now. To get the performance on my system (1 GB RAM, 256 MB 6800 GT graphics card, etc) to match Ryzom's at max, I would have to dial the COH settings so far down that the look-and-feel would no longer be better, heck, wouldn't be as good. Similarly SWG had a better look-and-feel than Ryzom (by a small amount) but it performed like a tutrle stuck in molasses.

Guild Wars I would rate second-best, but still below Ryzom. Again the look-and-feel are probably superior, but I get lots of rubberbanding in GW lately (never during plain travel, but a lot during combat)... mobs teleporting from in front to behind me, etc, do not earn points with me in a combat engine. GW does perform far better than COH (way less lag, slightly less rubberbanding) and way WAY better than SWG... but slightly worse than Ryzom.

That's on my system of course, but it's the only way for me to judge them.

Definately the Unreal Engine 2 used for Linage 2. It's the far most flexible engine yet created. With it's enourmous capabilities it doesn't have alot of "useless" mandatory functions that will drag down performance. Seriously, we have 3rd person action games, 3rd person stealth games, adventure games, mmorpgs, face paced fps and tactical fps.

Personally I think EQ2. I still remember when I made my Fighter at the time, and arrived in North Qeynos to find the castle and the draw bridge, it looks incredible. One thing that the EQ2 engine does lack though is the capability of creating lush terrain. I find that the grass textures in Antonica for example are far too repetitive, even on a "High Quality" setting it looks pretty bad.

    No longer visiting MMORPG.com.

You actually think that looks good?

Ouch those textures look horrid, and the lighting sucks.

Anyways, as far as art style go L2 and WoW are both good, but as for engine capability definitely EQ2 or huxeley.

Though I can't wait to see what the graphics improvements do to EVE, I still think it has the most atmospheric graphics of any MMO to day, very dark and gritty as opposed to most of the light and bubbly stuff on the market currently.
