Don't mistake the name "Trial of the Isle" to mean a full trial version of the game. It is actually a smaller demo of the game that takes place entirely on the starting island.
It gives you a chance to try the different classes, see the graphics, and experience the mechanics of gameplay. It is a rather large download, though. To get the full game you must purchase the full game.
Kindle is right, it should be called a demo, not a trial.
Played it myself, completed the isle in 2 days with 4 classes, all quests, then what? The trial is ok, nothing special, left me interested in the game, but...
A trial is supposed to sell a game, demos DO NOT WORK with mmorpg's as the content is in the community, which you DO NOT experience on the isle. The make-or-break for me with a mmog is the community, the players. Otherwise why pay a sub when you can buy a single player game?
I for one will not buy a game which offers you a trial but hides you away from the players, to me it looks like they are either hiding something or deem you not worthy to mingle with the population. A mmog for me is 100% community, I don't care about the gameplay so much as 99% of mmog's are all basically clones of each other anyway.
Bad sales tactic for a mmorpg, make it a full trial and SOE may see players actually joining the game. Your limited in time on a trial anyway, so no one is playing for free as some people seem to think on this forum.
Well first off, calling the Trail "Retarded" sure reflects on what kind of person u you are. And personaly that type of person is someone we dont want in EQ2....go back to WoW please.
But I have to agreet that the trail is not really showing what EQ2 is and does not make ppl to "want" the game. I think having a 7 day trail would be a better solution.
Just because its free doesnt mean the TRIAL is great.
I have a hard time beleiving that the trial shows the best aspects of the game you play. Is that such an offensive thought? Can you at least agree with me that the island might not show the best of what EQ2 has to offer?
i think SOEs idea is if you want to experience the game beyond the newbie island then you will have to buy the retail box and start paying a monthly fee.
amazon.com have a copy of everquest 2 for a whopping $18. maybe you could just buy the game and see how the game is like. you could then continue your character you made on the main land. then you will have 30 days to decide whether or not you want to keep playing.
Have played: CoH, DDO EQ2, FFXI, L2, HZ, SoR, and WW2 online
I was sold on the trial as soon as I cast my first spell. I thought the spell animations were amazing and really satisfying. Once I finished everything in the trial, I bought the game the next day, so it worked on me (and I still love the game now, and am a lvl25 wizard now)
I'm in the trial right now and I wouldn't say it's retarded. It gives you a basic idea of the game and its mechanics allowing you to decide if you think it's worth purchasing the game and going on.
So far I don't really like it. It just feels clunky to me but I just hit level 6 so it's not like I played that much yet. I changed my resolution because I couldn't really read anything (res to high..text too small) so that may help a bit.
I really want something other than WoW to play but it's not looking good so far.

I love n00b isles lol.. I have toons there just to help new guildies and stuff.. I think they did a great job showing off the game in Trials..
I was hooked when i had to place the mouse on the ground to lure the hawks from the cliff sides.. i thought that was great..
i also never play healing classes but this game makes them fun!!
Fear ME!!
