So your saying EA spent millions of dollars to not do anything with Mythic? Thats like buying a hooker and not using her. Why would you do that?
Unless EA just wants to be a pimp, they have Mythic do all the work and they make all the money. That would make sense. I can see that.
In America I have bad teeth. If I lived in England my teeth would be perfect.
Well the Devil is furthering his reach, say goodbye to anything that previously looked anything like what Mythic origianlly intended, and for you subscribers to the online games start looking for another one to play because contrary to EA's challenge everything, it is actually "Cancel Everything".
Gee, I wonder if they'll kill off DAoC the way they did Earth and Beyond when EA acquired that game from Westwood. Jackasses.
Why can't these games also be sold as single-player with a random number generator creating the enemies and missions, when they go out of business? E&B was an awesome game! It only lacked because EA got rid of anyone involved in tech support for the horrible lag - hey the broadband generation was still young!
E&B is dead. Long live E&B!
EA's fault. You haven't been a respectable company since the Commodore 64 was a gaming rig.
BTW, no I don't play DAoC, but I feel for you all that are troubled by this acquisition. Damned big bank take little bank over and over....what's next, they gonna buy out Play NC?
under criticism and tell me that everything is going to be fine.

"The current mandatory hours are 9am to"
And what happened after they purchased Mythic? They announced the release date for summer 2007.
I want WAR to be good, and I want it be a sucess. But I know EA, the worst and most evil game company in the universe.
Hmmm... EA and Mythic... what does this mean for current games such as DAoC? It means you will be split into two worlds, promised great expansions that are just the same bland thing, what you now call PvP you will call "Run away cause the patch made me suck more then ever", and finally sequels that will never exist! The CEO had stated that he will not do anything that puts his people at risk but I don't see a worse step that could have been taken.
On the bright side, you may see "Orc Football 2007" in an upcoming DAoC patch! I suppose that could be neat, always wanted a MMORPG to make a actual INVOLVING sport but I keep seeing fishing or FFXI's failed attempt as well.
I just hope this doesn't mean the end of Warhammer because that game is looking better and better each passing month (cudos to you developers). I suppose only time will tell just how much of a hand EA has taken here and we will see where things are directed.

Yes, EA is incredibly excited about getting, ready made as it were, a game they perceive will be a money maker. I notice Mr. Jacobs makes no mention of EA's excitement about Mythic's existing product, DAoC.
I find the characterization of EA's games as 'great' as laughable. We're not talking about a creative, cutting edge company, here. They're conservative (remember the food service and bank executives in management) and they're savvy enough to make deals with companies with proven track records (Westwood, Mythic, Maxis, etc.) or complete licensing agreements for properties that have large fan bases already (LotR, Harry Potter, James Bond) so that work-a-day products that don't particularly suck but don't raise the bar, either, will still make them money.
If you consider mediocrity great (and in this day and age, most folks do) then yes, EA is a 'great' company with 'great' games.
WAR hasnt really released anything that makes me excited about the game per-say. The part that had me excited was that Mythic was creating it. Now that EA is "aquiring" Mythic I have to watch a little closer at the development. I think if the Mythic team in Virginia remains the same and has their say then the game can still be as glorious, (or even more glorious with the extra funding) then it would originally have been.
However EA is a big company and they like feeling in control so its quite possible that they impose, alot, on Mythics development of WAR. As long as they dont try replacing the original mythic team with their own people I think the game is still worthy of watching. It is still too soon to tell.
Just remember that EA closed down Earth and Beyond without even trying to make it better to attract more customers and they shut down Ultima X before it even got off the ground.
They've shut down more MMOs than they have launched which is a really lousy and crappy record. It's almost like scamming.
I'll never ever play any EA MMORPG because of their lousy track record.
Dedication to quality... that's a load of crap. EA + MMORPG just makes me want to puke.
The crappiest Korean MMORPGs with less than a thousand concurrent players have a hundred times more dedication to development than EA has.
EA can burn in hell as far as running MMORPGs are concerned. Not playing any of their MMOs ever. Neither should anyone else unless you wanna waste your time.

Originally posted by Miexon this isn't good for mythic kiss any games good bye from them. EA ruined EnB when they purchased Westwood in development and failed to do many things with EnB that they said they would. The destroyed the development team and put little or no effort into the game or even advertising it. They cancelled EnB and since then most of the old westwood people left to form a company called Petroglyph i think. This is as bad as SOE trust me.
I second this. I started in Asheron's Call, didn't really click with me, then went to EnB and I loved that game, except for what EA did to them.
No more EA for me anymore, especially if they choose to keep the sims online instead of a good game like EnB.
I hope all of you brainiaks look at the GOOD side of this so called "sell out" and realise that Mythic will only gain from this Merge of two companies, so i hope you keep on ranting and raving about how mythic sold out and look how stupid you feel when you look at the content and Depth of the game and how much Better it looks because they now have the resources they need which they were formally missing.
GG to those who think Mythic will let EA F**k Warhammer up, OFC not because Games Workshop will not allow this game to be made if Anything at all is missing or if they dont feel that the game is ready, so grow a brain before you misjudge your decision and take a look at what i said you frigging morons

Well, you're either from Mythic or EA cause everyone else thinks otherwise. You can go play their games all you want FOR ALL OF A FEW MONTHS BEFORE THEY FRIGGING SHUT IT DOWN OR JUST OUTRIGHT CANCEL DEVELOPMENT BEFORE IT EVEN HITS ALPHA TESTING!
It's not so bad moneywise. They'll probably get oh... $80-$100 out of you before they close your game.
I find it insulting to subscribers that they're even trying to get back into the market after what they did.
EA has been nothing but bad news for MMORPGs. Their past actions are beyond redemption. I really don't care about posting here much but EA sucks so much that I signed up here and posted because it'd be wrong if EA screw more people out of their money and more importantly the time that they pour into playing an MMORPG that they EXPECT to last more than a year.
I have nothing against Mythic, but hooking up with a company like EA (which has an absolutely horrible way of managing or not managing MMORPGs) puts them in the same boat as previous (and ruined) acquisitions.
I won't even bother checking up on their progress since, if EA does as expected, it'll just be A GRAND WASTE OF TIME.
That's it. Thanks for the news post and I get to vent for awhile.
On the bright side for MMORPG.com, check how many new folk subscribed just to post here against EA.

Well at some point you just have to face the facts.. its all about money no more no less..it's pure business and that is just sad.. Now i dont wanna rample on about how much i dislike EA.. they made a few games i like and did alot i really got angry about like the closing of UXO and EnB. But as long as gameshop has an agreement with mythic and they can pull the plug whenever they want i dont see why to be afraid about Warhammer. Im still looking forward to it and i must agree with those people who say that it will benefit mythic to have bigger pockets..
Though if this agreement disappears and EA is allowed full control then im gone.. EA have never been able to manage and make the right decisions about MMO. UXO for example would have been a goldmine, The changes in UO will that just sucks( the game may still be alive and have some amount of players but theres a reason to why all the vets or atleast a lot of them have gone over to the privat shards or even changed game).
But i think the wise thing to do even though most of us dislike EA is to give them a chance untill they prove us wrong if they do.. There is no doubt that they need a very big piece of the cake when it comes to Online Gaming and therefor they cant risk to mess with warhammer. Heck they cant mess with it as it is now. Feel free to currect me if im wrong.
I'm very disappointed in this merger, since Origins Inc sold out to EA in the late 90's early 2000's UO went to crap because of EA. Since then there was 2 promised updated UO releases that was nixed at the last minute.
EA is the destroyer of online games and most games in general, since 2000 I've never purchased another EA game and don't ever plan on it. I took all the EA cds I had and burned them in a BBQ pit in the backyard.
I have never trusted EA and will never trust them, you wait and see DAoC will go downhill within a year since EA has their hands in it. Also watch for promised new releases and content be pulled at the last minute. They may make some decent sports games but they know jack about MMO's.
Although I, for one, approve of the merger as it is indicative of modern business if I was to play devil's advocate I would suggest that EA has a business strategy of sabotaging online games. This would reduce the loss of customers from its core revenue of (crap) sports console games. However, as I mentioned earlier in this thread it would be like Sega trying to prevent the inevitable roller coaster of Playstation in the nineties.
There for I would expect that the investment of EA money into Mythic's Warhammer is driven, not through a policy of sabotage, but of achieving the maximum return, and even achieving the mammoth success of WoW.
Time will tell, and all those who have shared thier bad experiences in this thread with regards EA's conduct in the past have my sympathy. However, most corporations will be ruthless with failure and those involved in this particular business affair are unlikely to be the same reps that were involved in previous failures. Unlike small businesses, which have small clout in the market and are more open to mismanagement, corporations are responsible to the share holders. Yes, money is the driving force but do you want a beautiful, idylic but impoverished Cuba of a game or the monster of capitalist U.S. of A, freedom of speach, mack daddy of a game?
