no its probably not completely true, but there is some truth to Dullahan's post. ive said it a few times on these forums, but ive been following Darkfall for a fairly long time, and in the numerous interviews/ircs and such, the devs have mentioned a more then a few times that they realize DF is a niche game and that they will not compromise on their game's systems in order to at least partially free themselves of the niche.
Of course they want to make money, who would want to work hard on a project for 6-7 years.. for nothing?
But they have a very strong vision about how they want to build their game. I have been very impressed with them time and time again, not straying from the original idea. And it just might be a very good idea. Just see how many traditional mmorpg's fail.
But actually it's not so much the pvp focus that will make them succeed, it's the openended sandbox model (vs eq/wow/etc. theme-park model) that is the most interesting concept. Just like UO and EVE the game provides the tools, and we (the players) decide how to play the game.
I never played UO or AC DT but I did play Shadowbane and what I learned from that game is that and open PvP based game works. Not only does it work but it builds stronger communities than all the other type of mmorpgs I have ever played. It takes a hell of alot of trust to group when you can be attacked by anyone and that alone causes good relationships to be formed.
The politics alone is what made Shadowbane such a great game which was something I never got out of WoW, EQ2 or CoH and the only reason it failed had nothing to do with PvP but had to do with crap code that had too many bugs and laggy ass servers. (think I'll name my first character in Darkfall EXE.error)
If another game comes along that can bring back that experience but actually have code worth a damn then it would be a success for the pvp crowd. Thats what I and others think or should I say hope Darkfall will bring back to the mmo market.
And all the damn carebears should be glad that this game is being made so that all of us gank loving no life griefers will leave their game so they can pick flowers, dance with eachother and kill predictable boring as hell npc mobs with out the fear of being killed and loosing their phat loot.

hard to say on vw or not. 6 years is a long time. Problem with that kind of time frame is graphics get dated even before release ala shadowbane.
Now if the code is solid they may be able to show it and get funding to redo artist work in a year with new age mmo graphics.

Good point to this was catskills uo pretrammerl in t2a. For whatever reason terrathan keeps terrathan warriors would drop magic weapons constantly. People went there in droves to try to farm sillver vanqs. Hehe was good fun for 6 months with pks theives and the like always big fights. Sigh i miss my bard mage 8(.

I don't just wish it was true it is documented and has been implemented. Ive followed closely most MMOs to date, esp the big ones like Everquest and WoW which I have played (for thousands of hours). I know what they are about. You obviously don't. Sony is willing to let hackers continue playing their games because people will continue paying.. Its a fact that Blizzard autogenerated their environments thus, every town has the same buildings regardless of the faction and every cave is has the exact same topography. Please don't cast doubt on posts if you don't really know what the hell you are talking about.
The DF community comes through again, chasing off anyone remotely interested in this game with their arrogant attitude.
Instead of acting like a 12 year old and talking about killing the person or resorting to insults like "Carebear," why not post out some facts. Tell them about other games like mount and blade with similar battle systems that are totally PvE and very fun. (2 person development team)
Explain to them why free pvp will foster community, create an environment where honor matters again and where getting a bad name will get you killed and the stuff that you stole will be stolen from you. Explain how this game will make crafting important and how whole guilds and alliances of guilds will honor crafters because they need high quality replacements regularly.
Tell them how the world will flex and change as resource centers will shift after every battle, and explain that the challenge of PvP mixed with world building, if done right will make a game with longevity.
I can't say if Darkfall will ever come out, but I can say that this is the way EvE is right now, except in space. Now I don't like space as much much as ground combat, at least not until they have small real time fighter combat. Anyone that's played EvE to a high level knows that the open PvP is the reason the community is so good.
I think its great that there is a totally PvP game.
Hopefully the people who like PvP will follow this game and stop trolling every other game that doesnt have full PvP saying its going to fail because it doesnt have full PvP.

The general idea is that items therefore become that much more precious, and so does survival, increasing the tension and excitement etc.
In a normal battle people would most likely use cheap armour that can be made by a clan crafter.
It should have been quite obvious that the gameplay dynamic would be like that with the words "Open PVP", but oh well.

trust me, its not that bad. sure dieing sucks, but thats whats great about it. makes you NOT want to die, also creates a meaningful and useful reward for when you win.
also, it doesnt suck THAT BAD... not nearly as much as i think you're thinking, its not like your losing hours of work. more like 15 minutes of some travel time and interaction with whichever crafter friend's shop is closest, or to the bank.
and if you still think its BS, then return to wherever you came from or look at vangaurd or something.

wow once i started reading about darkfall i thought i might check it out (mainly because i dont want to play wow and the only game im playing atm is GW because it doesnt charge monthly) but anyway after reading what the playerbase of darkfall is like i think ill stay far away from this game but more to the point of the subject...
the game will probably be a little similar to FoM where ganking people in public/starting places usually got you killed by NPCs or other players that might "run" that area... i dont think it will be THAT bad (i know FoM was horrible but this one doesnt seem like it will be the same just similar)

Dabble you say that like i wasn't intending to clarify and partly alienate people. First of all, no game requires hundreds of thousands of players to thrive. Like all things in life, when large numbers ARE drawn it is because of comprimise. Everquest comprimised to draw more players by bringing mindless expansions which were autogenerated. WoW comprimised doing much of the same and absolutely trivializing a game by making it so literally 5 year olds can play it (and young children do play it). I, for one, don't intend to spend my time playing a game that is easy in the few hours I do have to spend gaming. I'm not calling people noobs I'm just telling them that the game is designed for a different crowd. Get in or get out. Why come on this forum complaining and making me out to be a bad guy just because the game play is obviously beyond your abilities and/or desires.
