bah eve online is overrated. every time i mention another space game, rabbid eve fanboys always want to mention eve because it's better than any other space mmo with the most online numbers in a single universe, i mean eve online has enough online numbers whu are the fan boys even mentioning that game over and over? it's like god damn i am banging my head against a brick wall here.
Originally posted by Elnator Originally posted by Beatnik59 Originally posted by apertotes i invite you to re-read my previous posts and you will see i have always been talking about isks. why? because the OP seemed so f*ucked up by having to grind money, and he was comparing this grind to the grind on any other game. "yes, you dont have to grind for xp or items, but you have to grind for money, so in the end it is the same as any other game out there, EQ2, WoW..." well, that is were he (and you) is wrong, even though getting isk was accepted as a grind, it can be completely eliminated by friends and team play, and that is what differences EVE from any other game.
If the point you are trying to make is that you don't have to play to gain skills in EVE (because it trains automatically), and you don't have to play to gain ISK (because people give you ISK for reasons wholly outside the ability to earn it), then pray tell, what does it mean to have either?
Exactly one of the things I found so frustrating and un-fun about EVE. It's so arbitrary. You don't have to play to advance your skills... just log in periodically to start them on the next set. You don't have to play (much) to get boatloads of cash because your corp, once you join one, will pretty much obviate any 'grind' for cash. Trust me on this... corps are VERY generous to their members, especially good ones. So you're left with "Sit around and wait for your skills to train" WOOOBOY!!! THATS FUN...
You had it up until the last sentence. YOU DO NOT HAVE TO WAIT AROUND FOR SKILLS TO TRAIN. If that is all you are doing then it is YOU who are making the game unfun. If you're in a generous corp that supplies you with everything you need then help them with their goals in game, it could be to mine for the corp producers, guard a mining party, go looking for war targets or it could just be going out with a group to hit a complex or hunt belt rats. The bottom line is you do what YOU want to do, not what the game forces you to do.

eh, but what if he wants to be bored? you didnt think about that, did you?
nah, just joking. some people have troubles having fun with legos and prefer monopoly. there is nothing wrong about that.
just like some people hate Civilization cause it is very slow, and they prefer the action of warcraft or Age of Empires. there will always be different tastes and different games.
what i hate is people lying just because they dont like a certain game. that is very sad. i can say i dont like warcraft 3 because it is not deep enough for my taste, but i cant say that it is unplayable or unbalanced, because i'd be lying.
Happy friday all! One thing I should mention about EVE, from my own experience playing it... if you enjoy the economics and crafting aspects of an MMO, and you have not played EVE yet, play it! I spent some of my time I played EVE (played for a few months) making money as a freelance trader, and... this might sound odd to the more action oriented folks here... I had so much fun putting together spreadsheets of goods and market prices and studying all my system charts figuring out profitable trade routes. For people who enjoy that sort of thing, EVE is a *great* game for playing the markets.
@^^: then WoW is definetly not the game for you lol
anyways on topic...EvE is the biggest grind every IMHO and its not even a fun grind, although i didn't stay in game long enough to realize why the grind was worth it : /

I've been looking into EVE for a while! I can handle grind games, dont really bother to much!
what i cant handle is young communities .. WoW..
-- Raid dependent end games, carebear pvp, and cartoony graphics. lol

I was wondering if the sandbox feel to EvE is worth the try?

Considering how the trial is completely free, how can it hurt for you to try?
could you define grind?
