What you want is a game where you can gank people, not pvp. Pvp implies that the other person is aware of whats going on and fights back.
That being said, people like you are the ones that ruin open pvp games.
This was your first bitch post in this guys thread, there are many more like it. Full of bs and nothingness. Get off his back Alice. He was asking for suggestions for a game to play, not for you to school him on what YOU think is "real" pvp. Coming from the days of UO and Meridian 59, PVP is PVP you kill, gank, whatever, its you vs. another person. So in my eyes. You're the weird one, not him.
Anyways, moving along.
To the OP: EQ2 Was pretty fun. It actually has about 1200x more depth than SB of course. and Money drops from kills. Sometimes you get lucky and catch them sleeping with gold and whatnot on them and you gate back and stuff your bank.
Eve didn't do it for me. It wasn't much of a game. More like I dunno. a constant script with pretty graphics.
Meridian 59 is still running if you like the old school stuff. And there are the UO servers we don't speak of.
So you find killing people half your level/who're other wise preoccupied a fun player versus player experience? If so i would seriously suggest growing up some. Fighting other players for a challenge rather than fighting an npc is one thing, but ganking people is something completely different. Something which requires little to no skill or knowledge of the game.

We can roll the afkers and the ones who are there and have the advantage, there is a reason behind our arrogance.
Actually there are more of us (honorable players) than your type (people who grief). Developers want to cater to the masses, not to your style of play (because we bring them more money). So future games will get harder for you to get your fix.
However, like cockroaches people like you are hard to get rid of. You show up in most games...either ganking or spamming crap no one wants to hear. The latter at least we can use the ignore button.
Man there are some ignorant SOBs trolling these forums lately. isenthrax or whatever... If you want a risk-free gaming experience, you wont be playing the games he's playing anyway, and challenging him and pointlessly flaming because of his play style is stupid and ridiculous. Some people like risk involved with games, and being able to be killed (OMG WITH A PENALTY! ) at any point in a game without a doubt adds to the immersion factor of a game for many people, and it adds realism. I for one would like to see a game like this that takes it a step further and implements permadeath to their games. Sure there are gankers in these games, but this just furthers to build a strong community. Anyone who's played shadowbane or UO or any similar game will be able to tell you that. There will be people that want nothing more than to go out and kill the griefers, and they do.
The simple fact that YOU want a carebear (omg i said carebear!) game with NO penalties, NOBODY can kill you unless you click the yes on some silly duel popup, does NOT mean that everyone else has the same opinions as you, and... As stated previously, this is why there is MORE THAN ONE FUCKING GAME AVAILABLE. Well theres my backdraft to your post... But... I too am waiting for a game to come out that allows full PvP, with death penalties, and hopefully even an optional hardcore server (Diablo 2 anyone? ). Funny thing, before the flames start, I have never once 'ganked' anyone in a game, but I certainly am a fan of realism, and not everyone is, certainly, and you are entitled to your own opinion. A game of this sort certainly takes an uncommon type player that wont if and when they die and lose their 'omg phat lewtz' or maybe their entire character, therefore we probably wont see this type of play for some time, if at all. With all that said, I really hope a Diablo MMO comes out sometime in the future, they'd have a hardcore server for sure, and damn I'd have a lot of fun! Those were the good old days.

Wow you are pretty serious about this, in fact it seems like you have really taken this issue to heart.
Actually I dont think future games will make it harder for open pvp, if anything I see the opposite of what your saying, e.g. roma victor, dark and light, darkfall, warhammer, pirates....
I see most the current mmo out right now the way you want them and well we all know 99% of the mmos out right now are pure crap. What you want is a single player fantasy game with a chat room added so you can talk to friends while you endlessly slay 100 million orcs for that one elite drop, then every now and then you will go to the pvp arena and do a few duels, who cares if you die you have NOTHING to lose.

my 2 cents.
Your two cents is short by two cents.
You missed what I want....I never said I want PVP kept locked up. Corporations that care about profits, will create games the masses want. I say the masses don't want griefers.
So developers will deal with them in a creative manor to keep the game interesting.
What would entail a 'creative manor'... Like... A giant house shaped like a shoe? Unless you meant 'creative manner' in which case griefers cause players to form trustworthy allies and form guilds to combat the griefers. This is called community, something your precious WoW lacks

I think open pvp can be done without too much griefing, maybe you have only played a few mmos?
I have seen it done where the griefing is controlled, e.g. Ultima Online
You had something to gain from pvp
you had something to lose from pvp
you had the people that made their profits by killing newbs, or charecters that were out pveing then you had a fair amount of charecters that made their profits by killing anyone "taged" red or grey.
and your right about the corporations that care about profits, again as i stated earlier look at the games comming out: darkfall, pirates, warhammer, dark and light, archlord, roma victor, vanguard....open pvp? I think it will be a huge part of the future for MMO's, maybe you should read up on them because you are stating the EXACT opposite.

The whole point of open pvp games/servers is that someone can randomly gank you.
I was one of the guys to first recommend EQ2 to him and here are my thoughts after reading alot of your posts. Keep in mind that I'm not a griefer but I do enjoy open-ended PVP very much. It's the competetivness in games that makes it fun for alot of players. I don't take part in trying to gank lower levels just because they are there to kill unless they attack first of course.
What I find humorous is all these people that whine and bitch about griefing are the very same people that, if they had the chance to, would join up with 5-10 other people either in their guild or whatever and go on a kill rampage of anyone they see. I've seen it in EQ2 many times. It's fun but it makes the people complaining about the griefers look ignorant.
I respect the hardcore pvp gamers out there that kill anyone they see. They picked a style of gameplay that suits them which is fine as long as they aren't cheating or breaking any rules/disclaimers, etc. You are always going to have pvpers that grief anyone they see, get over it...it's the nature of the beast. The sad part is they will whine and moan to the devs to make changes so the carebears can enjoy their "risk free" game now.
Try Lineage2. You can kill anyone you want at anytime. But you have to have the balls to do so. If you gank a lowbie in L2 your name turns red which means you can be killed by any player anytime without any consequence to them. If you are man enough give it a try. Most gankers don't have the stomach for actually living with their decision though. The grind is to harsh. Apparently you aren't a 'carebear' so being red shouldn't be a problem for you.
I'm gonna try Lineage 2 for a bit. I know it's a crazy grind but who knows maybe I'll run into guys like Isanthrax and get to kill them. That would put a smile on my face.
And for the last Time I never said that I only wanted to kill lowbies. I want to be able to kill everyone! Sometimes if they're really low I don't kill them. But it's rare that I'm nice!

Thanks dude,
Then my name will be red very soon! Wanna power level me?
Since you are interested in L2 I'll give you a bit more detail about the PvP system. The only place you can't kill someone is in town. Everywhere else in the game is fair game. When you select a player you can't tell anything about them. You don't know level or class. You don't know how many HP they have or even how much damage you are doing to them.
If you kill someone and they don't fight back, you turn red. This means a couple of things. First, if you have PK'd (not pvp'd) more than 5 people your chances of dropping an item when you die are greatly increased. Second, any other player can kill you on site without receiving any kind of death penalty, and finally town guards will attack you on site.
When you go red via ganking you gain karma and the only way to go back to white is by dying a lot or killing a LOT Of mobs. The life of a red player is not easy.
If you attack another player and you are white your name turns purple for a few minutes meaning you can be attack by anybody else without consequence. However, their names turn purple as well. If you kill a player with a purple name, there is no penalty. It is counted as a PvP not a PK kill.
There is a lot more to PvP in L2 but this gives you an idea of what happens to you if you gank. There are many many high level players though, so if you start ganking somebody thats in a clan be prepared to face their high level main character or some of their clan mates. The game is not friendly to gankers. But, if you truly want a gankers challenge, try playing red in L2.
Avoid Erica. Prices are highest on that server. Kain has the lowest prices but also the lowest popluation. I hear it also doesn't have as many farmer problems as do the other servers. Other then that just pick a server with the lowest ping. You'll see your ping times on the server selection screen.
Until you get to level 20+ and hit Dion the game is going to seem pretty empty. Most players have moved out of the newbie areas although there are a trickle of new players coming in. Archers and mages are strong in PvP. Archers are hell boring to level in PvE though. You have special attacks but you won't use them much to grind because every arrow you fire cost MP (mana).
Good luck. The game is not easy. The level grind is long and hard and the money grind is just as harsh. If you like a game with high levels of competition and don't mind a long grind you've come to the right game.
This is exactly what i said in the first place. What you're looking for is not a game where actual PVP occurs, you want a game where you can gank people and ruin there day. This is NOT pvp, nor would a true pvper enjoy it.
There is no skill involved in killing some person 10 levels below you who was busy mining. If you actually wanted to pvp, you know fight people who fight back, then you wouldn't mind designated pvp areas. In said pvp areas people are aware of certain dangers and are prepared to fight for their right to be there, and if a game is set up well these areas have benefits to going into them which quantifies taking the risk of being Pked.
I consider myself a PvPer, and I enjoy both ganking and nail-biters where I win the fight with very, very few hitpoints left. I'm also an EVE player, as I've found that it has the best PvP system for my tastes; the death system is also the harshest of any game I've played - when you lose a ship, it's gone, period, along with a good chunk of the modules you had fitted. This means you can truly hurt your opponent and his ability to wage war.
Basically, you can attack anyone anywhere in EVE. However, the EVE galaxy is divided up into solar systems with differing security levels, and there are differing levels of consequences for attacking other players within those area.
In systems with 1.0 to 0.5 security levels, you can attack and destroy another player, but NPC police will show up and destroy your ship.
In systems with 0.4 to 0.1 security status, attacking another player will result in being criminally flagged for fifteen minutes and being shot by the sentry guns around stargates and space stations; these guns can be tanked, but only by the most powerful ships. However, there is no such protection out in the asteroid belts and at planets and moons - you'll still be criminally flagged and will need to stay away from gates and stations, but you can destroy another player at these locations with impunity (well...relative impunity - he can always fight back or call in friends).
In 0.0 security status systems, anything anything goes; there are no police, no sentry guns, and there is no criminal flagging. It's total freeform PvP. Since 0.0 regions also contain the best resources in the game, they are fought over constantly by alliances often consisting of thousands of players.
You also have a personal security status. This indicates how well-liked you are by the NPC police. It is increased by killing NPC pirates, and decreased by criminally attacking other players. Personal sec status is important for several reasons. First, it limits the systems you can enter. People with extremely low security status cannot enter the higher security status systems without being shot up by the NPC police. Also, those with -5.0 security status or lower are known as criminals and can be shot by anyone, anywhere, without the sentry guns or NPC police shooting up the attacker.
So, this basically means PvP is limited to certain areas, right?
Wrong.
You see, EVE has a nifty little thing called "wars". Your corporation (guild) can declare war on another corporation without that other corporation's consent - both sides do not have to agree for a war to become active. During a period of formally declared war, the NPC police and the sentry guns do not get involved if you attack members of the warring corporation, no matter where you're at. You can even attack them outside a station in a 1.0 security status system and CONCORD (the NPC police) will just sit idly by; you won't even be criminally flagged.
Another thing about EVE is that the spoils go to the victor - those modules that survive the destruction of the ship they were fitted to can be looted.
One final note: direct player confrontation isn't the only PvP available in EVE. EVE is all about player interaction, and even competition for market shares can be cutthroat. EVE has a highly developed economy, and price wars, price gouging, and cornering the market are common. I know of several cartels consisting of the only players in game who can produce certain items who get together and set the price for those items at about ten times what they're really worth - if you want that item, you have to pay through the nose (or some other orfice).
Anyway, I hope this has been at least somewhat enlightening.

I bet most of the people who like ffa pvp games arent playing them just for the fact that you can grief lowbies. There's just more excitement and meaning in a game where everything you own is at stake. Also it adds a lot more player content to the game, for example a group of players start some sort of a bandit group and starts guarding trade routes to blackmail people for some cash.
GAMES LIKE EVE AND SHADOWBANE ARE CREATED WITH THESE SO CALLED GRIEFERS IN MIND. So what the hell are you complaining about?

What you want is a single player fantasy game with a chat room added so you can talk to friends while you endlessly slay 100 million orcs for that one elite drop, then every now and then you will go to the pvp arena and do a few duels, who cares if you die you have NOTHING to lose.
my 2 cents.
You missed what I want....I never said I want PVP kept locked up. Corporations that care about profits, will create games the masses want. I say the masses don't want griefers.
So developers will deal with them in a creative manor to keep the game interesting.

That being said, people like you are the ones that ruin open pvp games.
It's a game!!!

Thanks dude,
Then my name will be red very soon! Wanna power level me?
