i was thinking about buying WoW but i herd that loads of people are quitting i want a MMORPG that will keep me ocupied with loads of people online, is this not going to be the game for me becasue of people leaving or is there still loads of people?
Looks to me WoW is as healthy as ever, don't worry about being left alone meh, there are loads and loads of people that are still playing and will play for a good while.
Have a nice day

Where did you hear this? Although I believe there are hundreds of thousands of dissatisfied players on the edge of quitting and I myself quit a while ago I have not heard of this decline. Even though 2/3 of that 6 million is actually chinese players I still haven't heard of significant declines in Western populations. I belive chinese populatiosn are still growing so if WoW lost 1 million western players that would be like half their population which I would find hard to believe.
The PC game sales charts that came out last week put WoW at the top here in the US (yes, it even outsold the sims). New servers are constantly being opened to keep up with the influx. I call bogus.
I don't want to write this, and you don't want to read it. But now it's too late for both of us.
WoW is experiencing the "no expansion blues" as the hardcore powergamers have burned through the content and a few of them are now quitting cuz there is Nothing To Do.
It hasn't helped WoW that many of the patches have been catering to these powergamer types, leaving the more casual or Raid Lite players in the dust. Some powergamers won't quit, they have too much time invested in getting their charater(s) all the Phat Lewt. It's the more casual players that are begining to think "what's the point" of playing World of RaidCraft.
I am one of those players, I didn't mind raiding once or twice a week, but that is all there is to do at 60. If I wanted to spend several hours in a zone, killing dozens upon dozens of mobs so that maybe one of the few bosses may drop my class item and I may have the points/roll to win it.... I'd still be playing EverQuest.
Guild I was in had half the players quit WoW and half joined the Elite Raiding Guild. Bleh!
like most who still play WoW, I rerolled on a new server to experience it all over again.
mainly because there isn't anything else out there to play at the moment. But end of this year, begining of next, there will be many choices in the mmorpg world. I'm thinking AoC will be a good one. I like that it has a mature rating, and the graphics, and too many other features too mention.
Maybe Burning Crusade will deliver something more, but my guess is WoW will lose a lot of subs around that time. However, WoW will not be killed by any particular mmorpg. It will be around and thriving a lot longer than EQ has, and EQ has been around for a loooong time
i think volkmars post pretty much said it all...so so many mmog's and nonoe of them didnt get even close to WoW..post about losing 1 000 000 players is a noncence...if this game is in America first selling game 2 years after publishing ( and US is a pretty BIG market with ALOT of choice) then WoW population WILL grow bigger...sure HC players are leaving but WoW has x10 newcomers then leavers....maybe WoW will hit 7 million but it will lose ALOT ALOT ALOT subs if BC will dispoint HC players and players ingenneraly ..i am HC myself and love WoW and everything that is conected to it but i will leave if BC is a load of crap...and btw. i cant w8 new patch ..1.12 pvp - rouge patch...REALM VS REALM...and world PvP revamp...if PvP will be fixed like most players want that will be another boost for WoW population...
The truth of the matter is, no matter the talk or what biased oppinions want you to believe, world of warcraft's population and subscription base isn't decreasing, it's actually been steadily increasing.
For new players, this is of course good, so I would not worry about WoW dying anytime soon, espeicaly not with the expansion just over the horizon.
For the OP: If you want a pretty accurate idea of server populations, popular classes, races and factions, check out http://www.warcraftrealms.com/, it's fairly accurate and you can see the server pop's for yourself instead of picking up random information. Best of luck to you .
Don't listen to people mate i've just come back after a 3 month break from gaming full stop and the servers I play on are as full as ever and thats 5 characters on 5 different servers. Its just people scare mongering, when the population of the servers gets as bad as SWG thats when you start worrying but for the immediate future all looks great.

I quit WoW about 5 months ago, whenever you hear people say that p2p (Pay to play) will eliminate kids, its not true at all, out of all of the mmorpgs I have played (swg, asherons call, eq, even toon town) WoW was the worst, Its not just that people were immature, but also rude, obnoxious, arrogant, and just plain altogether horrible to listen to. I definitely dont play mmorpgs as much as I used to which is a good thing as they sure dont improve ones mental state. Of course there are those that are nice to be around, but they seem to be the minority, this could vary server to server of course (pvp servers seem to have more immature people from my experience)
I will admit though there was fun to be had in WoW, its easy to get into, and I enjoyed the PvP side of it looking forward to improving rank and the items that came with it.
well dunno if everyone is quiting, but seems like it is not growing at least in EU, since Blizzard refuses to open new servers, what shows something. I guess there might be mass exodus though when Warhammer hits the stores.

While I doubt the mass exosdus thing caused by warhammer (entirely different topic that is) I think it's possible they wont be opening new servers because they are planning some pretty big moves due to the expansion.
But who knows, maybe EU isn't doing as well as the asian and north american markets, something to consider certainly.

eeeer. Blizzard opened a new ultra modern server center in april and 8 new servers plus more to follow and you say it is in decline? True that some lag spikes and disconnect had plagued some EU servers for who knows what motive, but I don't think there is decline.

One of the main reasons this game has so many players imo is cause it's easy to play. Sure you have to gain skill to do end-game raids, but that happens while leveling the char. Simplicity combined with skill, lots of things to do, instances with greater challanges and better items, not to mention Burning Crusade launching will keep the WoW supremacy for some time still. Only yesterday 2 of my friends bought the game after seing it. So no need to worry about not having ppl to play.
WOW seems to have a lot of players still despite the people leaving, but if you start playing you should definately not go to an old server. Servers that have been around will be almost all people at level 60, there won't be anyone to hook up with to do the other stuff, while newer servers will have people around that aren't just powerleveling a new alt. I have the impression that the US numbers for WOW are dropping some and that they're staying even overall by expanding out, but it doesn't really matter - there's still a large playerbase, and existing players who hop on a new server to run the non-60 content.

Extreme skill at pressing 1-2 buttons on cue from a raid leader and/or add-on, and sometimes you might need to move too.
While there is no doubt that WoW is losing players, there are still pleny of ppl playing. I quit the game a month ago and took the 5 dollars from my BC pre-order and used to pre order Madden '07 instead. I think ppl who have played he game for are the ones leaving b/c the game is no fun for the anymore. I imagine there will be a influx of ppl when BC comes out. However blizz have disappointed me too many times since launch for me to believe BC will change anything.

Where are you getting this: "There is NO DOUBT that WoW is losing players". What are you talking about, where are you getting good enough numbers that contradict every official site there to say there is NO DOUBT.
The people who says WoW subscribers base is dropping should get their facts right. From the day WoW launched till now, WoW's Subscribtion numbers NEVER, and I mean NEVER dropped ONCE. in fact, WoW's playerbase is GROWING with each passing day!
WOW is steadily gaining players in every geographical location.
The break down of subscriberss can be found in Vivendi's Stock holder reports. If people are leaving, and I have no doubt they are, the number of new/returning players joining outweigh them.
This Christmas with the expansion you can expect to see the population boost by about 50% as returning players show up to try the new content.
10 million active subscribers by Christmas is my bet.

B/c not everyone who played the game is still playing, I know quite a few ppl who quite the game. B/c my mind is not narrow, I believe that a game can lose players but still have a net increase of subscriptions. The offical sites probably record the net amount of suscriptions are increasing but I doubt they record the gross amount of ppl gained vs the amount of ppl lost. So as I said ppl are leaving the game, as ppl leave every mmorpg game.

As with other mmos, players leave all the time. However at present I'd argue that WoW still enjoys a net gain in subscriptions.
If you're concerned with population, join one of the servers that are listed as 'Heavy' or 'Medium'.

Oh, cruel fate, to be thusly boned. Ask not for whom the bone bones. It bones for thee.
lol populations flucuate cause maybe people like doing things outside instead of playing wow

Wow has a huge community, but most of the people on there are complete idiots.
I love Anarchy's community though.
Really helpful.
Groovy.
