As a long player of SWG on US servers then one of the first on the EU servers. Im like you all and miss the great sandbox game it was. For me im going to go for Roma Victor, ive read nearly all there forums and website and cant wait till this sunday for its release. It is still a game thats growing, but is one of the most realistic sandbox games out there. I cant wait :)

As far as Saga Of Ryzom goes it is much more of a sandbox than what people think. Granted it is missing some of the things we had in SWG...speeders and player housing, but it is still a realatively new game. There are a lot of former Pre CU players in the community and what I'm hoping is that a lot of the good things we had will make there way into the game. There are Outpost battles similar to what we had with the GCW so mabey it's a step in the right direction, who knows.

I found the game to be a lot like EVE, at least fundamentally. The other one that comes to mind is Dark Age Of Camelot. While of course there are no speeders there is non instanced player housing. For now I've grown fond of Ryzom, I tried the game in beta and it has gone through a world of improvements, not to mention the dev team really seems to care about where the game goes, so it wouldn't surprise me to mabey see some of the other things discussed implemented down the line.

I loved the sandbox aspect of the game as well...unfortunately the abolishment of that style started with the CU and progressed with the NGE. I guess I may try Roma Victor if it is supposed to be that kind of style, but I will be on the lookout for some upcoming games similar to the original SWG.

Totally agree with this. You would think with one of the original MMORPG (Ultima Online) being a sandbox type game but they have all gone backwards to becoming more like multiplayer games.

If people think Saga of Ryzom is a sandbox then they need to wake up. I think Eve online and Shadowbane are the only ones at the moment that I know of.

Rubbish, eve online is almost an exact copy of the original UO pre-trammel but more advanced and complex. Only the guards are now called CONCORD and they come in with spaceships. Even the developers, CCP, admit to being ex-Ultima Online junkies and you can see it in Eve. That feeling of moving through risky space and being caught and going into battle really gets the adrenalin flowing much like the original UO and nothing else since.

You ARE rewarded for your efforts in-game via ISK (money) and accomplishments ie corp standing etc. 'Rewards' should not be about grinding up to a new level. How boring is that.

    ROMA VICTOR

Is coming out this weekend. If you like sandbox, this seems to be on the top of the list for sandbox games. From what I understand. Almost everything you see in the game is player craftable.

The main gripe from lots of  testers was graphics. But cmon, If you want to go play UO graphics, then you will have np at all with Roma Victors graphics.

I did not do any beta but since the state of current and upcoming sandbox games is so poor. Im definately gonna give this one a shot.

Don't try to convince people about Eve. The reason that game rocks is because its a lot more advanced and you actually have to think when you play it... People want WoW exactly for that reason. Let the big boys play Eve.

if you mean big boys as in elitists then yeah, i'll gladly let them pat each other on the back in Eve all by themselves. "Congratulations, we all just suffered through the most boring tutorial known to man. We are all so smart that traveling on autopilot for 20 mins is stimulating. We'll leave such low brow nonsense such as being able to have an actual character to interact with to the stupid masses, we have pods that represent our  BRAINZ! And forget being at the computer while learning a skill, our superiour brain power lets us level our characters through osmosis even while we're logged off!"

Maybe the reasons people dont like EVe is because the features dont appeal to them. It's a nice game sure, but I didnt feel very entertained by playing it, I actually felt pretty sleepy. I felt like the game did everything for me while i just kindof sat there and watched, just not very engaging and i can only slowly creep by 100 planets before i start missing having legs.

Well isn't that the height of arrogance...my main gripe was that outside of pre-planning, the EvE skill system requires no player involvement at all, and you accuse me of not wanting a thinking game?

Other than the skill system and the occasionally player like you, EvE is a fine game...just not my cup of tea. If they ever decided to switch to the UO skill system I'd definitely subscribe.

I agree with Lilt on this one. I tried several MMO's since SWG, EvE being one of the better ones (what does that tell you about the state of the MMORPG industry).

I recently ditched EvE for The Saga of Ryzom which I am enjoying a lot more. EvE to me was pretty boring, if there was no PvP to be found it was either PvE missions which are boring as hell, yes even the combat ones, or mining which to me is about as much fun as watching paint dry.

The main problems I have with EvE were the mind-numbing PvE combat and the fact that you have no character to play. Seeing a ship on screen all the time got old for me pretty fast.

I am loving Ryzom so far ::::01:: I got in a great guild as soon as I left the noob island and am learning all about the various aspects of the game. The fact that you can learn all the skills in the game is a major bonus, fed up tanking - be a healer for a while, fed up healing - nuke, fed up nukeing - forage or craft.

I fully expect to be playing this until SWG is reverted back to its original Pre-CU design, or SWG 2 (or whatever the next SW MMO is going to be called) comes out (as long as it isnt class/level based crap like the NGE and for that matter every other MMO out there besides RV, SoR, and EvE).

    MMORPG History:
    Playing - EVE Online.
Played (Retired) - AO, SWG, MxO, WoW, RFO, SoR, CoX, EQ2, GW, L2, Vanguard, LotRO, AoC, TCoS, Aion.
    Favourite MMO - Pre-CU SWG, 3 Years, 4 Accounts, 2 Pre-CU Jedi (1 Pre-9).
Awaiting - Star Wars: The Old Republic, The Secret World, Earthrise.

If you think graphics is all that people been complaining about then you only read what you want.Easily more then 50% of people complaint who bought the game(lets face it those that pre ordered including me saw the graphics screenies before we paid) is way more then the graphics.

I will not bother to list the issues its on the RV forum on this site for people to read.

EvE is what it is, if you dont like it then go play something else. Ive been playing EvE for over two years and i absolutely love it.

Ive played most mmo's on the market and eve is the only one that has seen positive progress during its 3 years. The game is better then ever and has 4x the numbers it had two years ago and ccp is happy with that.
