In my experience from having played both, EQ2 is better appearance wise, but GW has a more vibrant/alive/artistic feel to it, so it depends on what makes 'better' for you. Me, I prefer the effect they achieve in EQ2, but many don't.
I have to say that I love the graphics in both of these games. I think I would say that Guild Wars has better environmental graphics, and maybe even a little bit better character models, but I don't like the way they move.
Everquest II's models, however funny looking they may look when doing emotes, move smoothly and look more natural than the quick, jerky movements of the GW models.
Everquest II's environment may have taken some heat for being plain, but I like it, and I especially like how the gameworld appears to be so alive. In Guild Wars, I do get this sense of the world being alive, but not as much, perhaps because the maps are smaller, I'm not sure.
Anyway, both games are probably my favorite out right now when it comes to graphics alone, both are nicely done.

In fairness to EQ2, it depends a lot more heavily on system power as to what the game looks like. In the above still shots GW has a clear advantage in the 'still shot' sense than vs this particular snap of EQ2. As someone below me mentions, there is no flora turned on, and the image settings appear to be set more for a medium-low pc than one with an up-to-date vidcard/ram/cpu system would have.
EQ2 has more advanced graphic engine. Guild War has better artwork. Lineage 2 too has better artwork while the graphic engine is older. And the fact is, what you see is artwork. Thus better artwork makes better graphic. Unless the engine difference is too big. Which it isn't in this case.
Whomever took the SS for the EQ2 picture took it using very poor settings. You can tell easily by the complete lack of flora on the ground. They also seem to have the ground textures set to use the medium or worse.
EQ2 looks much better but requires a much beefier machine. GW looks beautiful and I like it but you can see the major differences between the games when you look closely at characters.

Grey Council from Xev? Hello from an old schooler (never GC tho, but iirc you guys go way back, think you were around even when I started in 2000. Xerv/Vrex/Raulin)

i agree with this fella... gw artists are very good :P
Most annoying thing in Everquest were character graphics (just after too frequent zoning). There wasn't enough character armor/clothing variation. Too often your character did wear samekind clothes/armor - only texture and color changed.
I haven't never played Guild Wars, so I can't comment its graphics.

Without having played GW, I'd have to say that EQ2 graphics are better. Now, that's saying when they're turned all the way up--which few machines can do with ease. The screenshot of GW is very nice, but it would appear to have graphcis effects turned up and the screenshot of EQ2 has them lowered and the shot is not as "scenic."
I far prefer the art style of Guildwars. However, that's totally subjective. While I personally don't like the art style of EQ2, the engine is very advanced, and I know that some people really do like it. I would have to say then that both are very beautiful games, and my personal preference is for the art style of Guildwars.
I don't really get the point of this thread, but I'm bored so I'm posting in it anyway
I'm not a supporter of either game, but having played them both for longer periods of time I'd have to go with Guild Wars as the better looking one by far. It may have less polys per char, but the lightning is so much better. And EQ2 suffers from clay-people syndrome. Lucky you can be non-human races so you don't notice it as much.
Originally posted by neoteo everquest 2 grafics are very good too , but guildwars totaly wins in floor textures , EQ2 floors are very flat actualy i have never seen a so well made virtual world as guildwars , i lot of love was put in every detail
i cant agree more my good man even though thats the dodgyest picture u could find... lol take that off thats horrible
Worth mention is how GW shots won't do it justice due to the living lights while EQ2 is pretty much what you see = what you get with the exception of combat-spell effects, which are very good at obstructing your view when in a party :P
Didn't see a need to quote the pictures. Go look at the OP to see them...
To the OP: Next time you compare graphics compare both games at minimum or both games at maximum settings. Your screenshot of Guild Wars is at max settings. Your screenshot of EQ2 is at minimum settings.
Both games have excellent environmental graphics. Guild Wars has slightly better environmentals and far better character graphics. EQ's character graphics look like plastic figurines. But EQ2's animations are worlds better than Guild Wars.
Both games have excellent graphics and why anyone would be arguing over "which is better" is beyond me. Arguing which graphics are "better" is silly as it's all subjective. Some people like one style while others like another. Even very minor differences in artwork can attract a vastly different audience.

Everquest 2 is not 100% instanced either, so you need to remember that GW, being more like Diablo, required MUCH less CPU strength than EQ2. The two are too different to compare fairly. And, as many have voiced, the EQ2 one is at a disadvantage with the low quality pic you chose.
