Hello boys and girls.
I just want to see how many people here would like to see a competent developer design a Star Wars MMO that could appeal to us... The "masses."
In my opinion, Star Wars is cool because of the several different things that are happening at any given time, and the vastness of the realm. No other story has had this many different authors and game designers creating books and games about it. It covers anything you want. Busy cities full of cutthroats and beggars, vast deserts and prairies for those looking to start their own communities.
So yeah, I for one call for a Star Wars MMO.

Hey fellow star wars fan.
Theres a lot of SW fans on here,
and a lot of angry swg fans out there.
and a lot of people wanting a new SW mmo.

Maybe we should start our own dev team. I can draw decently.. Hehe.
I couldn't find the article saying that this was going to be in the Sci-FI Genre, but i'm nearly sure i read it somewhere. I've even heard rumors of a SWG:2. Honestly though, no one knows. Just keep an eye on this.
''BioWare has announced it's opening an Austin, Texas-based development studio to work on its first ever massively multiplayer online RPG.
BioWare Austin's first project aims to combine "the best of BioWare's great past games with a compelling persistent online experience," the company's helpful press release noted''

Edit: After Reading all the replys of people desperate for Pre-CU/NGE SWG. Hope it won't get me in trouble, doubt it will. Check this out though...

It's an SWG emulation of the Pre-CU/NGE SWG, Forget which patch it is up to, i think right before they started to f' things up.
Where am i and who am i?
They would not let two star wars MMOs sit side by side, it just wouldn't work. You would be essentially be splitting the SW fanbase in half (well more 99/1 since SWG sucks) but the point is, it would be stupid. One would take a playerbase from the other, therefore making the entire point null and void.
It is a great thought, and I would surely play, but it will never happen
LA's not going to settle for a few hundred thousand. "Hey guys, just make something that'll entertain them. It doesn't have to make too much money, just something that'll make them happy". They'd be stupid to risk all that time and money to build a new SW MMO when it looks like there's no market for it. Especially since it would have to compete with another one. That splits a very small market into even smaller pieces. And at least Galaxies had the movies to help boost sales.

Saying that two star wars MMORPGs can't exist at the same time is like saying you can't have a T-bone steak because theres sloppy joe fixings already available. SWG is a horrible mess now and is circling the bowl. Time for something new.
With the wealth of mythology the star wars universe has you could have a half dozen MMORPGs running at the same time and still not have the timelines intersect.
My wishlist...a Yuuzhan Vong/New Jedi Order mmo!!
Having 2 SWG MMOs would be like SOE making an EQ and an EQ 2... oh wait...
In America I have bad teeth. If I lived in England my teeth would be perfect.
Nah, it made perfect sense.
Now they need to stop pleasing people who want graphics and fast gameplay, and start pleasing those of us who don't care about the graphics, as long as they make the game intelligent for once
-Would have to take place before RotS or at least several years after RotJ. Best bet would be to go old Republic, like KotOR.
-Would have to include Jedi. There is really no way around this. I don't particularly like the "random Force sensitives" either, but anything that prevents every player from rolling three Jedi is a good thing.
I always thought a SW MMO would quite literally write itself. All the design legwork has already been done. Professions, done. Races, done. Worlds, done. Sad that SOE proved me wrong.
SWG had 350,000 people playing before they nerfed it, in case youre wondering - thats a lot!
SWG2 would draw the full fan base in as long as it wasnt made by SOE + more star wars fans that just never got to the game because of its reputation.
Any game has the potential to grow to wow-like numbers as long as it has the content and keeps its members, word of mouth is all that made wow successful.

I didn't hear about SWG until after the nerf, my buddy had a jedi character and when the nerf came he was pissed about it. That's when I heard about the game... If SWG2 came out I'd be in line to play for sure... and yes 350,000 accounts IS alot.
LA has been making games for a long time. I think they would be pretty happy with "a few hundred thousand" $15 dollar subscriptions coming in every month.
SWG had a horrible launch (like most 2nd gen MMOs). SOE had planned to have NO jedi. They were planning on only using one planet for the whole game then people raised so much hell on the forums that they made tons of last minute changes to the core game. It was released before it was finished. It had tons of people playing at first, but many quit in the first couple of months because of the bugs. Those who stayed with it loved it. It wasn't just diehard Star Wars fans. It was a good skill based Sc-Fi MMO.
I dunno anything about another SW MMO coming out, but I do know that they wouldn't have to worry about splitting up their fan base. SWG was a ghost town when I played before NGE. I can imagine what it is like now.
Which FF Character Are You?

Agree with you except your first paragraph. Bioware has not announced WHAT they are making... it could be a Star Wars MMO or it could be a Fantasy based MMO or, hell, it could be tiddlywinks online for all we know.

I would kill for a star wars MMO based on the x-wing / tie fighter series. Forget running around on the ground killing space-rabits to level up to level 2. I want to strap myself into the cockpit of an x-wing and reenact some of the great battles of star wars history with hundreds of other people.
I can't think of a game with more appeal to me... to get a chance to be a pilot in an x-wing squad in an MMO with integrated voice chat so I can sit here with my headset on and my flight stick repeating cheesy star wars dialogue and going "red 5 standing by" while dogfighting against friends of mine flying tie fighters while star destroyers and mon calamari cruisers slug it out with each other... and if I could take place in a battle like the battle of hoth, in an MMO, I think I'd die from joy.
I want a *star wars* mmo, not a freaking everquest clone reskinned with star wars skins. I think pre-CU star wars galaxies was just as horrible as post-CU star wars galaxies.
You don't re-enact any of the big battles and it kinda languished with no major updates till ROTW hit... but you do get lots of missions for space combat...
And, by the by, SWG wasn't an EQ Clone. It was absolutely nothing like EQ... till the NGE hit anyway. (other than you gained skill in your combat areas by attacking/killing things (Stormtroopers, Tuskan Raiders, yes 'creatures' as well etc. But you gained skill in non-combat areas by *gasp* doing non-combat type things. SWG was more UO re-skinned with Star Wars graphics than anything else.
I swear I get sick of the "EQ in Space" crowd. NOW it's EQ in Space. Before the NGE it was a very unique and unparallelled game. Sure it had bugs and some balance issues. But overall it was the best MMORPG on the market. SWG ruined it by pushing the NGE live.

But yeah, WOW I beleive had it's numbers because it brought in hundreds of thousands of people who had never played MMO's before... Because of the blizzard title. I know atleast 40 people that I work with thtat play it, and it's all their first MMO.
So I think that if a SWG2 came out, there would be a broader gaze to be fixed. And I'm sure if a good enough company makes it, it will likely succeed. I only hope Bioware is making it.
I want it either in the old republic, or right before Episode III.

I'll agree there, I would still be playing if the NGE hadn't been put out.
