Going Going..Gone.. Horizons the Disaster

Horizons debut at $50USD, within the first month it was reduced to $29, now they are giving a 7 day free trial available on the 16th. The game has been out for three months and it's already beating Asherons Call 2 in being the worst mmoRPG of all time.

Be warned that a 7 day trial might mean you have to give your credit card details to a company on the brink of receivership.

    ive seen much worse mmorpg.

Unfortunately the one I think sucks has a good name behind it from their many epic science fiction movies *cough* *cough*

The only reason why that mmorpg is still kickin is cause of the name and nothing more.  Unfortunately, Horizons doesnt have a name to lean on.

But Horizons isnt the worst I have experienced

    IMPENDING DOOM!

    HORRIBLE CATASTROPHE ON THE RISE!

    OH THE HORROR!

Meanwhile I'll be enjoying Horizons with the thousands of other players who are still enjoying Horizons for months to come.

No, no...your apocalyptic doomwishing isn't going to make it true. Sorry, Jack.

I don't wish the game any bad future but i am one of the stupid fools that bought it for full prize. I didn't even play the free month.
I rather hit my head against a wall for a month then play this.

I was in beta, and know 3 other peaple who were as well, 2 of them bought the game they played a month or so and quit, I have no urge whatsoever to even try the game again at this point, I would have to say it is the worst mmo ever, I have played better 2D games from Korea that only ran a few months.

Every place I go to fight mobs there are more people. Every place I go to gather resources there are more people. Every town I go to shop or train there are more people.

If the game is such a disaster, why are there more people crowding the areas I've been playing in every week?

From what I can tell, and I am not trying to put anything down, but it sounds like those are the only places in the whole game with any reason to be there.  So, when you visit 7 different places, and each of them has 20 people there, then you have seen almost all of the people logged in...

If the world was done correctly, then there would be 800 people logged in and everywhere you went, you would only see one or two other people, if any at all.

No, that's absolutely wrong. I travel all over the world and there are more people everywhere I go. Do you play this game or are you just guessing at that?

You Fanbois can say this game is good all you want, but there are still 5+ existent dupe bugs , exp bugs, stat enhancement bugs , its freaking pitiful, AE and horizons are one big screwjob. Im glad you guys still see people in there, its sad to see an MMO die, but the game is a peice of crap, people are quitting not registering, enjoy it while its still running.

Would you like to place a wager that this game is still around in 12 or even 24 months?

If the game does last, it's someone’s sick waste of a life, hobby. Ala David Bowman can't see a future for himself so sticks with this one.

The game is a cess pool for people to be trapped and waste their money. After subscribing or buying the game they quickly realise the dud they purchased.

Nope, I haven't played, I admit it.  But from many posts I have read, that is what I got out of them.  I have seen these same things in games.  ShadowBane has similar problems, the PvE content is not spread out enough, so everybody in the game ends up at or near the same location to try and level.  Really was too bad though, ran through this huge world for miles to find the three camps on the island all within 100 yards of each other.

I really considered getting this game.  But I know when the number of people saying how bad it is outnumber the supporters, then it usually is bad.  There are even more unique people bad mouthing this game than Fanboys that I could find.  And that is not normal.  (Don't get me wrong, I found your post to be intelligent and not a fan boy post).

The price of a mmorpg dropping like a pile of bricks only a short while after release is a clear sign of desperation on EA's part.  Horizons had no steam coming into release and it was in development for like 10 years.  Sounds a bit like AO to me except unlike AO it has nothing new to offer the mmorpg community. AO had the sci fi factor that made it pretty unique. It also capitalized on the hype big time.

Horizons lost its hype long time ago.

I played it did not like it.Maybe because a lot of the original ideas never made it far and it was completely different from what i expected.

However thats my personal choice i know a lot of folks that do.

And why are you bashing a game you never even played! How do you know its good or bad without even trying it.

Sorry but the above dude might be a fanboi but he has more right to review the game then someone sitting around bashing every mmorpg without even trying it for themselves.

  • EnigmaEnigma Member UncommonPosts: 11,384

BTW, isnt RPGPorkster the same guy who posts false "insider news" about Horizons...for example, my brother's sister's Aunt works for Horizons and they fired Mr. X.

Anyways...here's apost that rpgporkster did right here on mmorpg.com

    http://www.mmorpg.com/discussion.cfm/loadforum/489/loadthread/7608/setstart/1/loadclass/166

That thread alone makes me want to take nothing that Porkster say seriously

Well I'm not sure if you can wrap your mind around it but it is possible to know if a game is good or bad without actually playing it. If Horizons were a good game it would sell better.  Word of mouth is a powerful force and eventually people would start flocking to the game.  Except for a few people who love it, every game no matter how bad has these kind of people, I have heard nothing but bad things about it.  Yes people who played the game are the only ones who should review it, but certain things can be understood without first-hand knowledge of the subject.  When a game fails or is in trouble it usually means it sucks.

RPGPorkster seems to have a chip on his shoulder regarding Horizons. His posts have been a pinch of truth and a bucket full of personal opinion. He is the epitome of the doomsayer in any major city crying "Armageddon nears. The end of the world is upon us"

I will say though, that I bought Horizons. Played a lot for 3 weeks trying to enjoy it, but really couldnt. The game overall is pretty drab in comparison to a few of the older MMO games that are out. Some of the older ones may not have the graphics, i.e. AC, EQ, AO, DAoC, however they do have a consistent game play.

Do I think Horizons will make it in the long run? Doubtful, but then again, AC2 is still out and it was horrible. HZ is an incredibly boring game, and will take a lot of work from AE to make it into something really worth playing.

Do I wish it to fail? No

However at present those that cancelled  I do not believe have an option to renew their accounts if they so chose to do so. That definitely isnt good.

ok, first I do not know where you buy your games but shadowbane is still 30.00 at the compusa in westchester county, and Horizons is still 50.00 as well.  as far as games that people nay-sayed and said were horrible were  oh lets see, AO, Earth and Beyond,  SWG. nearly everygame out has had their share of problems at release.  hell Asherons Call 2 is still out there.  If it can make then so can Horizons.  And Horizons still has something unique.  playing a Dragon - (I can hear the flames rising)

Look at SWG. Of course people want to play a Jedi. Has a Jedi yet been seen in the game?  Why would I buy SWG if I could not be a JEDI. Lets be real the whole purpose of ANY Star Wars games were centered around Jedi. SWG however is not.  ( the Dragon of Horizons is like the Jedi in some respects- Is  all the code really in the game?)  Also let be realistic, Some of us get Bored Damn easily and we will tell everyone we can about it, Just because you didn't like the Matrix doesn't mean others won't.

the same goes for games. Lets be realistic,  usually the problem with other games is TOO MANY people, now with Horizons  we have people complaining because their are TOO FEW.    Maybe horizons should close a few server. AO only had 2 when it started. maybe thats the problem Daoc still only has about 1000 online per server and you can argue the same thing. I hardly see anyone in that game either so people must be quitting it right?  of course it could be the area I'm in, Try looking around. On shadow and Twilight Dalimond always has around 30 people in it as well as many opting for free teleports by binding in starter towns like New Brommell.

As long as they continue to patch and fix known issue I do into see a problem with horizons making it. There are enough people around to keep it going for some time and thats all they need just like AO, and AC2

    Holy cow

You serioulsy need to go out of westchester county if those are the prices.

Horizons is 24.99 at Gamestop where I lived (both in Maryland, Virginia, Tennessee and on the website) and shadowbane is 4.99.  Yes, 4.99 at my gamestop and babbages stores.  Even on the internet it's 4.99

I think you're getting ripped off a little

Umm, there is actually ALOT of Jedis now and more coming daily..if you can grind through the professions you can be a Jedi, just takes time and effort that not many want to put into it.

Hehe, Welcome everyone to RPGporksters "Horizon witch hunt".

One would think that AE killed his entire family or something, even if he started with zero knowledge he could have built his own mmorpg in the time he spent bashing this game...

    Why???

You can actually buy ShadowBane from the ShadowBane website for $9.99, that's right, $10.  So, do not pay $30 for it anywhere.

Also, you can download ShadowBane for free and have a 14 day free trial.  Then you buy the game for $10 and get another month free.  That is what I did.  Then I quit before I ever actually paid for a month,  So I played for about 40 days for $10.  I do not like the style of PvP that game has.  Total Gankfest.

Horizons, just like any new mmorg has had it's fair share of problems.

Even so, I place it far above AC2, Shadowbane and SWG.

Only time will tell if Horizons will be able to pull off a great game that will last a few years.
