hi
i need your help to make a decision
i have been playing the trial of eve online for a few days and i really think it's a great game , i was planning to extend it tomorrow but yesterday a rl friend of mine told me that he was going to play guildwars and well eve online and guildwars are ranked with 8.3 in this page , the only advantage of guildwars is that you don't need to pay each month...
so what do you think is better, playing eve online alone or playing guild wars with a real life friend?
just that ... thanks in advance.
pd:as you maybe noticed, english is not my head language so.. sry if there is any mistake

its like day and night, you can't compare the two. if its a real life friend, ask him (or her) if you can play GW on his account for a few minutes/hours to see what the game is like.
I personally recommend to go with EVE. Guild Wars is a very fun game, but its not really an mmorpg that will keep you busy for weeks (some will though), and EVE is a REAL mmorpg that will keep you busy for months (if its your thing, that is)
Personally, i find Guildwars to be much like a normal online shooter - Fun for an hour or two now and then, but thats about it.
On the other side, EVE isn't much better. I get restless while doing nothing for 5-10 mins at the time.. And if i start doing something els while waiting, i tend to forget the game :P
But my honest opinion: If you want to engage yourself in a game, over a longer period(Say, 6 months at least), then EVE online would be my choice. And working with your friend, i'm sure you could have some fun together while PvEing and PvPing.
Personally I'd just go ahead and buy Guild Wars... if he's picking up prophecies then you can grab it in a bargain bin for like $19 some places since Factions came out. Otherwise you'll have to order it online, where prices seem to range from the mid $20 range to $50.
Me? I'd go ahead and get both. EVE is only $19.95 to buy and $15 a month to play and GuildWars you can get for 30ish and no monthly fee.

Eve is a VERY casual mmorpg. It can take you hours to find a solid pvp opportunity, skills are learnt in real time and you have to understand that it will be 6 months before you hit mid-game content. Also, this is a majorly inter dependant game, very few people can afford even mid-game content without the help of a guild. If thats what youre looking for then Eve is definitely the game for you.
For a quick fix of fun, hit guild wars. Amazing pve plot, pvp at the click of a button & *some* end-game but no raiding persay. And.... no monthly fee so just boot it up when youre bored. Guild wars is a bit more clean cut for non english speakers - you can hop between the US and the EU servers a few times and the EU servers are split into english, german, italian & french and you can choose your language in each town.

Eve is one of the better mmorpgs and if you join this game be prepared that u need long time to develop your belongings and advancement in this game. you dont get skills with levelling rather from waiting in real time. i would say eve is one of the more mature games, whereas guild wars is just having fun and its similar to regular mmorpgs.

eve is only $19.95 there , here in chile the games are always more expensive here eve cost is around $90.00 and factions around $60 so i'm obligated to choise one of the games.
Heck, after a few days, you can become a pirate if you wish - Even a frigate has it's role in PvP. Mainly as a tackler, holdning much larger ships in place.
Wrong.
You can be involved in major PvP battles in 0.0 within a day or two of signing up. You can be a capable, involved, helpful member of a 0.0 corporation and alliance from that point forward.
If you've limited to yourself to not being engaged in this kind of play, you've done so by choice.
EVE is very much so not a casual game. It can be played casually, but most of the major PvP players are anything BUT casual.

To the OP...as others have stated, these games are night and day. They have their own merits in their own rights, but you really can't draw a comparison. Personally, I think EVE with a friend would be a lot more engaging and intersting in the long term than GW...but GW will give you lots of adrenaline rushes for as long as you find it fun.
Just let the little troll and hopefully he'll go away.

I hardly think frigate vs. frigate counts as mid-game pvp opportunities. How mnay 0.0 guilds are gonna let you in with ZERO sp? Are you offering?

I'll bet my left limb on, you can't create a character with zero sp
That being said.. A day or two, that's about what you need - Which is quite fast, considering it's an MMORPG. Not many MMORPGs would let a casual player join the 'real' fun, as a newly started toon.
Get Guild Wars

Come on man, let's get serious.
I can't think of any MMO where you don't have the opportunity to join the real fun, as in bigtime zones, PvP, etc, if you get a bunch of established players to bring you there with them.
But the key is the sponsorship, and not the game mechanics.

Well, ofcourse, a fairshare does - World War II Online comes to mind.
But too many games uses this neat little thing called level - And often aggro too.
Ofcourse though, you are correct. Maybe i was a bit too hasty in my statement. Since in EVE online, your survivability in a 0.0 space wouldn't be near any respectable level as a fresh new toon, and you'd probaly get.. Well, slapped seriously around unless you got big guys to protect you.
You simply don't understand EVE online. Frigates play a crucial role in nearly all PvP battles. Your exmaple is in pretense of the concept of a 1 on 1 fight of you versus some other frigate. That's one of many, many variations on the theme.
As for how many guilds will allow you to join fresh off the boat? Go read the official forum Alliance and Corporation Recruitment Forum. Page upon page of people looking for players, and quite a few of them are willing to take complete noobs with no experience from day one.

Enough with the thread hijacking stalker freak, give proper advice at least. To the OP, buy both only Eve has a monthly fee, you can enjoy both without having to put out cash every month on two games. Anyone else who advises just one game is stupid, with only one montly fee you'd have to be retarded not to enjoy both.

I give 'proper advices' - In my own eyes. You see, we humans are not alike, we think differently, and have a different opinion on many things. I shared my opinion. You can share yours. But don't get stuck on the high horse, you may have a sore bottom afterwards.
To be useful in PVP even in a frigate, you need about 2 months worth of training under your belt. 3 for a Cruiser.

Ianubisi,
I appreciate your enthusiasm but there isn't a corp out there that invites an utter newb into it's ranks because nobody wants to invite a spy on a trial account by accident. Too many corps have been ripped off that way. Unless things have RADICALLY changed most corps won't invite anyone who's not playing retail and has at minimum 500k SP (Usually 1mil). Also no person in a frigate with under 1 month training is going to enjoy PVP... they'll get oblitterated in the first salvo. Their ship will be too slow and won't have enough armor/shielding to survive. Their weapons will be very limited. They won't be able to tackle worth a darn and they won't have MWD's to get the heck outta dodge with. Heck, I have 4 months of retail under my toons belt (no I don't currently play) and with the training I have I can actually fly a cruiser faster, and with almost as much maneuverability, than most newbie frigate pilots could fly even the fastest of the frigates. I'm sorry, an utter newbie in a frigate is nothing more than a 1 salvo kill in any serious PVP battle.
