I'm glad I didn't buy this POS. I had been watching the development of this game for a long time. The closer it got to release the less faith I had in the devs, and I just knew it was going to be a big turd of a game...too bad because they had some good ideas.

I can't believe the game doesn't have animals yet
Who releases a MMORPG without animal spawns ready?
what a joke
Maybe a game whose only purpose is not to sit around all day while waiting for the Young/Novice/Adult/Elder Bear to spawn so you can kill it and its 20 relatives? :P

Don't be terrorized! You're more likely to die of a car accident, drowning, fire, or murder! More people die every year from prescription drugs than terrorism LOL!

They have had to hold back on everything else because they need to get the server fixed pronto
Or maybe we should point and laugh at the ones who are already paying for a game that is unplayable.
It's called research my friend...learn to use it before you buy.

The game has no monthly fees and is improving with every single patch and there is a thing called patience which I think the audience the game was intended for probably has alot of but even RB said the game wasnt for everyone so I guess its just your opinion that the game is a flop. I see the game doing very well in the months to come if RB keeps working as hard as they are and I hope they dont let all the corporate sabotage attemps ruin their efforts. All the major mmo companies do not want RV to do well because it will make them look bad and most big money companies make the same grind/level mmo's with no real depth and hopefully with time and patience RV gets to the place its trying to be and I will hold in there and wait. Also how many mmo's were released in a perfectly tuned state? I cant even think of 1!

Ok I'm sorry for the "point and laugh" comment I made, but I would really like you to explain to me what makes this game more "indepth" and what's the difference between grinding out levels (like in other MMOs) and grinding up you skills? It's still grinding isn't it?
BTW... this game is a Loooooooong ways away from making any major MMO look bad.

Three points:
1. Unplayable? It is playing just fine for me, so take your uninformed comments and send them to someone who cares.
2. Yes, research...I did mine, you may have done yours, so why come over here and hate on people who didnt...do you try and pick on ppl at the old folks home too?
3. Dude, I think it is waaay early to start calling this game a failure...games like wwiiol were truely unplayable for months and they seem to have bounced back...you might want to ease back on the DOOOM! forcast, so you dont make a complete ass of your self.
Also, to those saying a small group cant pull off an MMO...hell, half the big companies cant do it either...grin. At least RV isnt charging me a monthly fee to beta test the game....*cough*SWG*cough*

I don't play the game (and probably won't), but I have been following it pretty closely. I have a feeling the game will do just fine. The forums had quite a few performance related complaints for the first week or two but those have dwindled down as the lag and tracking issues are resolved by RB. Most of the complaints are related to the game itself, not performance.
It's what I think of as a super-niche game. It's a very unique style of game and not your "Go kill 10 Weak Rabid Bunnies" grind fest. Go play WoW or EQ or some other game if that's the style of game you want.
I probably won't play the game though I respect the developer with the nads to create and release it. I have a lot of respect for the players who crave this style and enjoy the game. It's not for me, though.
Per a dev comment on the forum, they have about 6,500 subscribers. The initial response was greater than they anticipated which probably contributed to the performance issues at the beginning. I'm certain that there are plenty of people who think 6,500 at release is a flop. I'm pretty sure there were more than a few at RB who nearly pee'd their pants with that many who wanted to play.
Sometimes success isn't measured in how many millions want to play your game.
I played the game for about two weeks, and I would agree that it is dangerously close to failing. I won't log back in for at least few months for the simple reason that they released the game before it was ready. The world is so empty that it is frightening.
The small things are what is bothering me. They don't want a map in the game, but there are no real markers in the game world. I took a journey from the starting barb town, to the town across the map. It went like this: I walked out of the gate, said good by to, barb_guard_1302 and barb_guard_1303 (very immersive and realistic,it'd take what, an hour to give names to the npcs?), walked across a huge green field with absolutely nothing in it, followed a wall, and finally found the next town.
The emptiness of the map hinders the ability to find your way around, it's possible of course, but what happens when they get around to adding the rest of the maps (which were supposed to be in the release I believe).
I know someone will come on here and say that if I can't handle these small things that this game is not for me, but the small things are very telling about the developers. All I'm seeing is an unprofessional team who made the biggest mistake an MMO company can make, releasing a game to early.
I made a post earlier saying I thought this game would turn out good and I regret that. I know they are a small team, but they should have put this on hold for at least another 6 months. I don't think I can get over the fact that they released an unfinished product, that obviously was not tested properly.

I was looking forward to it's release to kill some time, read the forums and features and was willing to help support a small dev make their dream till these type of posts started popping up all over.
First off SOE, EA, Funcom, etc doesn't care in the slightest about some small market niche game. If they did ATitD would have been destroyed a long time ago. There's no corporate meeting about the small dev team that's going to destroy them, no paid spys, no armed cyborgs on shadowruns. Enough man, stop.
"The intended audience... the mature people... for more intellectual player..." spare me. I've had my fill of such patronizing talk from the official DnL forums. If your high horse is so important keep your damn game. Enjoy. Knock yourself out. You won't have to worry about anyone except "the intended audience" being there.
Part of the selling point to a game is the community. I thought it was going to be a small, close knit group. Instead it's this. Not a chance am I going near it.
So if my mom plays RV should I be offended?
lol j/k
I bought the game with the intention of being a weekend gamer to try it out. I expect it to be just like every other mmo when it is released, buggy and tough to play at 1st. So far I guess it has "lived" up to my expectations.
While I was looking forward to playing, I knew I wouldnt be able to put in the time to play a lot so I guess I can be more patient on it. I am sure it sucks for the people that are trying to play on a daily basis.

I'd love to play the game and offer my experiences, but the only way to play right now seems to be to pay 20 Euros for an account key (which ends up being close to a full game price). There's no way I'm paying 40 bucks to see if a game is really a flop or not. They need to give a 1 week free trial. Any half-decent programmer on the team should be able to do it. No monthly fee is great, but lets face it, the game's hype hasn't been as widely recieved as say, Guild Wars (which gives a free trial). In order to grow their subscriber base, they need to get people hooked on the game. To get people hooked on the game, you need to let them try it.
You tell me which sounds better:
A) Hey you should come try this game, it's only 20 Euros to get in on the fun, then no monthly fees.
Hey you should come try this game, it's free for a week, then if you want to keep playing, it's a one time payment of 20 Euros, then no more fees.
Honestly, far more people will try the game if their offer is B. However, with option A, they have your money before you even start playing the game, so they don't really care whether you have a bad experience or not. They currently have no need to make the game enjoyable for you after they have your initial 20 Euros. If they had a free trial then people would stay based on the game, and not because they paid their money anyways. If the game is great, then there's nothing to worry about, right? But if it sucks, get your money first, lol.
Anyways enough on that, I wanted to say this. I see people saying things like "they're fixing more stuff every day" and "you have to be patient" and "it's getting better". What I want to know is if they're still having to do all this stuff, why did they launch? Since when did it become normal to finish the game after release? Too many MMO companies are doing this and getting away with it.
The long and the short of it is, while the game has an interesting premise, without a free trial, I don't think this game is going anywhere. Except straight into the 'flop' bin. Give us a free trial and we'll see if it really is a flop.
