omg. you're right. we're doomed. rome was built in a day, what the f**k's taking these guys so long?
Apparently they spend their time making screenies of Vader talking prophanities.
See, this is what it devolves into. Is this the iconic and starwarsy pre-cu everyone loved so much? Is this what it was all about? Did everyone really want to make Vader their biatch?
I'd rather set up Vader against Luke in a combat. Or Bobba chasing down a Han. Or having Han kneeling in front of Jabba, pleading for mercy. Or revenge. Or whatever their deal was.
This is where the difference comes from. I personally don't find this amusing. It's at the pre-teen level of humor, which I have outgrown. But if such future of pre-cu apeals to you, fine.
They have another years work ahead of them but they'll do it. They will have to spend a lot of time debugging spawns & storyboard quests. These arent client side so I think a lot of 'creative correction' will be used - You cant recreate the whole corvette too easily even IF you were in-game inside it.
The more I think about it the more daunting it seems tbh. They need to know the HAM values of every mob in-game to recreate them. They will release something but it will feel more like SWG 3/4 than SWG 2.

The SWG emu is to Gaming as Police Academy 6 is to movies. Sure, it played in theaters and sure it had actors, a director and other movie making participants, but the reality is that it sucked ass.
It's a cool tool for reliving the glory days, making little SWG movies or hosting a really kick ass virtual chatroom, but it will never be a living production server. They won't have the bandwidth or staff to do anything more than make a deserted server that has major problems handling multiple connections.
Just hop on one of UO's emu servers or any of the other games that has them floating around if you don't want to believe me.
I loved that game, I ranted and raved on SWG's forums under three account names to try and save it but that didn't happen. It's dead and buried.

This isnt the problem tbh. There are many SWG emu supporters who work as professional web hosts and say theyll sign their server up as a 100mb/100mb customer. But yeah, police academy is a great analogy

Time will tell but ive got my own finger on a few OC 192 connections and a high-end linux server and the backing of over 20 dedicated people who i'd place my own life in there hands since we have gamed for over 7 years together and i've personally met all of them my current clan leader will be joint admin with myself and a load of csr style people will be in place.

If supporters of this project wanted that crap, they wouldn't be supporters. They'd be playing the "omgzuberc00lICONICSTARWARSY?" NGE. You either forget or ignore the facts, the ones who are most passionate about pre-CU are the ones who wanted to be Uncle Owen and Aunt Beru. They wanted to be Rebel Trooper 7 from the left. It was about existing in a Star Wars universe, and maybe creating or being a part of your own epic battles, not necessarily someone else's.
Ironic... you consider one person's pictures representative of the whole initiative and all those involved, and you consider it to be at a 'pre-teen level of humor'. On the other hand, you have SOE, who has turned that same game into an entire pre-teen experience. Do you also consider Obraik and his mature level-headedness to be representative of the NGE audience? You've got it completely backward.
I agree with Rekrul on this. These guys are bullshiting and flaunting way to much, they need to close this this up tight, and keep it that way until its finished. I was one of the EMU doubters and was proven wrong with the screen shots started poping up, but now its gotten to the point where im back to doubting. This project is not in good hands if we go by these screens, I know they were taken out of humor and ment to be fun, but people serious about their work, and espically something this deep would take this a little more seriously. Gonna be a blast to see these guys bitching when they get shut down.

I was looking through their forums and they do have the right ideas. Theyre making the data easily changed by external software so that it can be modded to allow user created worlds. I think a few server hosts will get it right and go for it. People just need to stay grounded - compare L2 private servers to L2, no in-game events and less players than NGE SWG.

Well I wasnt refering to them getting shut down for legal issues, I really dont want to get into that again nor do I want to read people talking about it, anyways. What I ment was them shutting down due to lack of player support, bad deving, whatever technicality you want to call.

The project is open source now. Closing it up effectively neuters it. Most of the project has been done by open source programmers since it became OS, and only managed by the core team (though they certainly have contributed since then). Also, I never once got the impression that the person taking those screenshots was a coder submitting work to the project. I take it you did? Regardless, many people like to celebrate milestones with a glass of champagne. There's nothing wrong with being a little goofy.
And honestly, why would you want to see the project fail? Especially when its success doesn't affect you in the least.

Didnt say I wanted it to fail, I said "Gonna be a blast to see these guys bitching when get shut down." Ive also highlighted it above. The picture dosent even need to exist for my remark to be true, have you looked at their forums, have you seen the attitude of the EMU team? Its like watching a contest to see who can prevail as the biggest douche bag on the internet.

In that case, your comment was completely out of context with the rest of your post. Most of what you said appears to relate to the OP, and that's what I was responding to, not the attitudes of the developers.
They do need to take a couple of humanities courses each, that much is true. That's one reason why I'm not contributing to the project. The forum mods are actually worse that the devs in most cases (the funniest part being one the the guys currently doing "The Galaxy Report" is one of the worst offenders there). But they don't have to all be ambassadors for this project to succeed. The passion that most people have for the old game is what will make it succeed, now that it's OS, regardless of how badly the devs there treat people.
People here go on about people playing SWG suffer from stockholm syndrome, but I think that same argument can apply with the other SWG. They publicly make fools of people in various ways, yet most if not all go back. The people working there know they can get away with it because they're "doing them all a favour making a pre-cu version."

Ok guys sorry to have taken a few mile-stone pictures thats what they were from test bed in my own server, as for helping in the development i've contributed to the login server part of the emu, to a recurring problem involving routers which is now thankfully all sorted up.
If you read the Vader pic right it says that the top named guy is not MY biscuit but in fact was MY new Biotch it was a in server joke thats all.
Be Good you lot until my next post and yes EMU is OS now, and work is flying along faster than the ordinary joe knows, oh and SWGEMU is not a pre-teen game at least i hope not cause im 36 this year, so maybe im a teen again woot, just joking hehe
P.s final note in this post, for all the doubters still out there and for all the people who resent the idead behind a pre-cu, sorry but in the eyes of the people who played swg from day 1 can tell you pre-cu was indeed the best time in the game thats why we as in most want it back again and also why ther is in excess right now of over 120 people working on this project plus the fact of it being open source

Well, Even Koster disagrees with you Obraik.
What?
Obraik, your fighting a loosing battle... why?
Rabia, I don't understand your remark either. Obraik was nicely pointing out what I have been not so nicely pointing out. The guys in charge of the project are a bunch of snitty buttholes that get their panties in a wad real fast about the dumbest issues. They insult people constantly...even those who are sincerely trying to help. They think it reaffirms their ubar-1337nez.
For some reason, I don't think Raph has ever addressed that issue, and from what I can tell is pretty much above mentioning it.
Personally, I think the only redeeming aspect of this project is that being Open Source, the future is not TOTALLY in their hands. If it were, I'm sure they'd screw the pooch as well or better than SOE. Their immaturity will only hamper the project, especially when things get serious.
I realize I said I quit. I never said it was forever
I saw this thread last night and was going to comment on it but I got a little busy on some other things.
A few comments:
1. The pictures shown are from earlier builds - early 100 to be exact so several of the milestones that have come about especially in the 140's are not present. For those who are actually building the code and reading the logs given with each version, the progress is no less than astounding. They have installed states which are vital to the combat system, inventory, items, coloration of items, stabalized the client, revealed some of the reasons of the lag that was present in SOE's version of SWG and went about fixing it. Each of these fixes and claims are backed up with the presentation and comparison of code.
Currently right now, the combat coding classes has begun. As it is open source, the community has been submitting fixes and help and the project is going much stronger than any other emu effort I ever witnessed. That may not mean much to you but to me - it has my interest and respect. Main point - before you knock it - download the source every day for a week, build it and take a look. If its against your ethics - then fine but don't bother complaining about progress or code.
2. The pictures shown were from someone's private server. There are now hundreds of those. So any humor or tasteless joke should be considered isolated to that server. Yes, there will be quite a few bad examples. But then again, that happens with anything. My first week on SOE's version had me receiving a screenshot that had a person seemingly doing a questionable act to Vader. Had I based my entire opinion on this screenshot and the actions of others - I probably would not have grown to love the Eclipse community.
3. The guys running THE site aren't models of personality. Frankly, I don't care. I called the phone guy out to look at my troubled line. The man was rude and gruff. He still fixed my line. Had my tire changed at walmart last week thanks to a nail. The guy who put my info into their system looked at my as if I was an unbrand microwave meal. I don't think he would have stopped to save me out of a burning car. But after 1/2 an hour - my tire was fixed. He did his job according to MY needs. I don't want the devs to be flower children. I want them to code. Code it right. Yeah, they could learn to shrug off some of that god complex but as long as they meet the needs and put out the product - I don't care. Its working for free. And SOE has taught me well in matters of dealing with arses. The difference is these guys are doing what I want.
Finally for the record, the progress being that it is. I would be surprised if we didnt see a rudimentary combat system in place by mid August. I didnt say balanced or complete but one none the less. And again, what I currently have housed on my server for MY friends is much better than what I had a few months back and much much better than what was handed to me by SOE after my loyal patronage.
I have more faith in the Emu developers and those who are contributing via open source than I do in the SOE devs who have done nothing but anger me over the past 2 years.
Why? At least the emu guys are trying to give me what I want. The SOE guys just say "shove it".

At last, the emu fanbois see what's in store for them.
