If I were you I would try to buy all your parts at one site so that you will get all of you parts at the same day they come in. I bought form two different sites before and I didn't like it. On one day I got half my parts and then I had to wait 2-3 days (cant really remember) to get the rest. I tell you what waiting for the rest of your parts really sucks.
If you want you can take a look at http://www.newegg.com and http://www.tigerdirect.com they seem to be pretty good to me.
Oh ya most of your links are not working.

shipping and handling from 5 to 10 sites can increase the cost $200 and then there is the worry about restocking fees and replacement for defective parts, and the warrentee for those parts.
And there is the cost for the Op sys, near $200 for wxp.
By march to may 2004 there should be a decent price decrease on the cpu and gpu when the pci express gpu start showing up.
For gaming it is tough to out perform the Athlon 64 esp the 3400. Match that with a nforce3 motherboard (mobo) sata hard drive and a radeon 9800pro calabre gpu and you have a system that will take you into the next 2 years. Many games will start to retail on dvd (holds near 8 CDs worth of data) so you may want a dvd (many format types) in addition to the CDRW. A quality power supply (+500watts) and a decent case will do much to lessen install and start-up problems.
The prescott type cpu are largly for multi task usage. Not to mention prescott will not really shine till the Tejas show up next year @ 5 and 6GHz.
A mobo that supports ddr2 memory is something to look for and a pair of 30 - 50 GB sata hd will speed up system performance, one hd for program files and mayby a cheaper larger 2ndry hd for data storage. Be advised +120GB full hds take forever to defrag!
I think you would like your system better if it had these components instead:

WW only $1100? I built my computer back in may for about the same and its hafe as good. remember to get a floppy drive tho
A few of the links didn't work so i couldnt tell exactly what parts you were planing to purchase but i would strongly suggest you get a good name brand ram like OCZ or Corsair. I recently put together a similar system and ran into serious compatability issues with the ddr ram and the nforce chipset, turns out that the chipset can be brand sensitive. The 9800xt from ati is a great card the only problem ive found so far is that it produces a rediculous amount of heat i had to add 2 more case fans bringing my total up to 7 to keep it cool, well anyway i hope the advice helps you avoid the headaches i went through to get the system going was completely worth it in the end though.

Well it obviously depends on your budget. I recently spent about $5000 on a new system from www.alienware.com although mine was from the .co.uk as am in england and probably $1000 more expencive than over there!
Now obviously thats a lager end budget but it was worth it. However am doing a budget system for one of my friend for about £600 ($1150ish) and thats getting him a:
AMD 64 3000
1024mb RAM
GForce 4
Soundblaster Audigy
17" monitor
Etc
However prices seem to be alot less in the states so you mey be able to go much better!
There are new graphics cards released by GFORCE (the 5000 series) however their differences arnt really noticable till around the 5900 mark (in my view anyway). plus its always worth paying that little extra for lastablilty and playability!
AMD are slaughtering Pentium at the moment speed wise and even with pentiums hyper threading the 51 FX 64 and the 64 bits are outrunning all petium machines! Theyre even faster than the power mac G-5 as addmitted by Mac themselves! So in my opinion its best to stick with AMD and may even save you a bit of cash!
The site your friend pointed out seems to be quite cheap by british standards but i would reccomend seeing how well his pc turns out before you buy from there and maybe reading a few site revies but apart from that i would say that you should go for it. Only a few things in life are nicer than getting a spangly new high end pc!
Good luck with it! Hope you get what you want and it lasts forever!
h
I bet you my $800 system is better then your $5000 system... lol
You got so ripped off! HAHA
What will he do next?
Dual AMD 51-FX 64 3500+
2GB DDR RAM
G-Force 5950 Ultra
Refigeration cooling system (-25 celcius)
Plextor PX-708A 8x DVD±R/W Drive x2
Creative Sound Blaster® Audigy 2 ZS Platinum Pro - 7.1
Mitsubishi Diamond Pro 21" 930SB monitor
Creative® 7.1 Inspire T7700 speakers
250GB Western Digital Caviar SE Serial ATA 10,000 RPM 8MB Cache x2
(oh and all the usuall stuff like a color laser printer, broadband modem etc)
slight overkill but if you got it spare why the hell not!
Mine probably looks better too though im sure we both know its whats inside that counts
My 5900 runs faster then the 5950 Ultra... I think you still got taken... I know everything inside of my computer works because I put it there...
I would never spend $5k on a PC... I would custom build myself a phat one for $1000 and then buy a car...
What will he do next?
Granted it is nice to put things in yourself but i know everythinh in my computer works as i have personally tested it to the limits with software designed by me for my company.
I do think i spent quite a bit but im happy with is which is what matters. Everything is as i want it and it performs for me where i most need it.
I would buy a car but i dont need another Passed my test with only 3 minors.
I didnt get taken. i know whats out there and how much it costs. THis is paying over the odds but its built beautifully and i couldnt want more from a system at the moment.
THough i must admit your system is pretty nice for the amount you paid! Tech is so cheap in america compared with England!
i bought all of my parts from newegg.com, and shipping was only 45$. it took 2 days for all the items to get here though. i didnt need windows, but newegg sells xp home for about 90 and xp pro for 140 i think. building your own is great fun, ive been building lots for friends as well. feels good to know you can do it, ya know?
