Hello.
Would you recommend this game to someone who uses text chat only?
Are there major portions of the game that are inaccessable to someone who uses text chat only?

That is the choice I have to make, because there is no game that bans voice apps. This is why I'm asking the people here that know something about FF XI, so I have a better idea what game may be right for not only myself, but anyone else who cannot or will not use voice apps.

Not true, They're used in LSs for fun, or to easilly communicate when you're doing an Mission, HNM or somthing of that sort.
I've never used voice chat on FFXI, but that's my understanding as well. I believe that many (perhaps most) Dynamis LSs use voice chat--not surprising, considering Dynamis takes a small army to do and following text chat in Dynamis has to be close to impossible.

Well, ya know what? I'm on diabolos and the past few LS's I've been in use it. So now you have heard of it. Unicorn must be low tech, still stuck in the darkages.

When I used to play FFXI no one I knew used voice chat. Personally I would love to use Vent or TS, but the truth is it's probably more trouble than it's worth for FFXI.
One big deterrent (for me and my friends, at least) about using Vent/TS for FFXI is that you can't alt-tab out of the game -_-... it's pretty stupid since we'd often switch rooms/options/volume/silence people on voice chat, but with FFXI we have to log off the game first just to do those things and it can be very, very annoying.
Also, Vent/TS are not the most stable programs ever, I've had them crash (e.g. suddenly stop working, closes itself, some setting gets messed up) once in a while and it would suck to not be able to restart it if you are in the middle of an intense mission.
