I agree with Kaibigan34, EQ2 could be the best mmorpg. I simply love the game. It brings players into its world with a powerful epic storyline and gives them the power to be the hero or villain in their personal advernture.

This is going to get tedious, but let me name off all the ones I have played and then I will tell you which I believe to be the best and worst.
Motor City Online, DAOC, SWG, Runescape, EQ, EQ2, COH, GW, WOW, EVE, DDO, Lineage 2, and Saga of Ryzom. I think that's it.
Best- DAoC before the Trials of Atlantis Expansion. Before that expansion there were tons of people everywhere and the game felt new and fun. No instanced combat like that with the Catacombs expansion. No super classes either. ToA brought the worse out in the cummunity by making them fight over spawns that took 24 hours or more to spawn.
Worst- I want to say Lineage 2, because of the horrible community and long boring grind, but the grind is the only part that actually was made by the developers. So even know it was my favorite game, I'd have to say SWG was the worst, because all the horrible bugs and SOE's inability to treat the customers right.
Even though I hate it now for various reasons, I would say the best MMO I've played is World of Warcraft. As for the worst, I'd have to say Auto Assault.

2. For those who said wow is the best or "used to be the best"...I can only laugh. Someone said certain game has good idea in PvP, but too many bads in other...while said WOW used to be the best. Well what's good about WOW?
I can safely say, ALL MMORPG has the same crappy PvE grinding. WOW is NO execption. Then some games have a little good ideas here and there, good PvP is a big bonus. What does WOW have? crappy PvP too. Not saying WOW is the worst, but it's no where near the best, nor any immature who said WOW is the best or used to be the best have the right to judge any other game.

I certainly didn’t. I’m not saying WoW is the worst MMO ever, but it is the worst I’ve given any real attempt to play.
No MMO I’ve ever played had less magic then my first few hours of WoW. There was no excitement, no trepidation about what may be out there waiting around the corner, no sense of wonder at the marvels I may see and no excitement about what rewards may be in store. On top of this looking for the detail I had come to expect but simply wasn’t there made my eyes sore and the music was uninspiring. In short, there was nothing but a quick jump into grinding with no expectation or excitement that I would get something cool for my efforts.
While other games get higher marks for certain things, the best overall mix for me is EQ2. Whenever I loose interest in one part of the game for a while something else steps up to get me interested in something else.
Well....I can't really say which game was best and worst to me, so I'll diversify a little.

I always though EQ1 was a mediocre game. It was just a rehash of MUDs I didn't like to begin with. Its true it was a landmark in the industry (first 3d MMO), but there are a number of us who never really thought it was great. I just never thought the basic RPG underpinings of EQ1 weren't anything great and it sounded like an utter unwieldly grind-fest.
From my point if view it was actually inferior to many of its predessorss.

I'm still waiting for something to come out that I can truly call "the best", for now it is Guild Wars.
Worst is a three way tie between Runescape, MU Online and Maplestory.
