What is YOUR taste? I would suggest EVE-Online, but I know the younger "WoW" crowd will flame me and say the game is complete trash.
So I would suggest just going out and looking for yourself. There's TONS of MMORPGs right now with "trials".
Everything from D&D, WoW, EVE, AO [Free], City of Villains, Guild Wars will host a free weekend soon... there's tons of them.
That sounds great, the only reason why I wasn't really okay with Eve, its because I thought My computer won't be "strong" enough... I guess I'll try it and see! I'll also keep an eye on the other mmorpgs, just in case I find one that really fits my playstyle!
I was playing EVE with an Nvidia 5900 and AMD 2500+. Ran fine.

This is the exact reason why you SHOULD NOT play EVE-Online. Most of the subscribers are like VixenHeart... self-absorbed and think they are better than everyone else. "The younger 'WoW' crowd"? Not everyone who plays WoW is a little kid, like you like to think. And, just because you play EVE-Online definately doesn't make you smarter or more mature than the rest of us.
However, because you ARE too self-absorbed you wont listen to any of this.
Now... onto a recommendation for an MMORPG (yes, I'm even recommending EVE...): EQ2 is fun and has great graphics and, from my experience, a mature community. WoW is fun until end game, but the community can be immature in some places (due to the battle.net crowd...), DAoC is a great PVP game, but the PVE game is not up to standards. EVE-Online is a very "hands off" game, but you don't have to dedicate a lot of time to it. The community, like I said above, can range from very helpful to extremely stuck up (which is mostly the case in my experiences), and the game has a steep learning curve.
If none of these interest you, check out: CoH/CoV, FFXI, Guild Wars, or The Saga of Ryzom.
