No stupid elves or goblins or anything you would get in 99% of all the other MMORPG's.
I'm also jazzed about this. I'm so tired of purple skinned elves that make Liberachi seem macho. I've had it up to here with cutsey pie gnomes with green hair and pig tails running around my ankles. And although I don't mind the goblins etc that Vertex mentioned I will absolutely not miss avatars standing around and using a social that makes them dance like Micheal Jackson in Thriller. Ghey!

Rofl..... Yeah i agree too, to many dumb races with dumb looks! I hate the damn male Night elves in WoW. They look like goddamn clowns! Besides the humans, who were kinda gay looking, The dwarves were the only class on the alliance side that didnt look completely gay. At least the dwarves are actually real :P (Except for the longbeards)
I just wait bit more intresting combat system than in current MMORGPs. Also some mature content and bit more mature community than in other MMORPGs. First 20 levels might also be more intresting than other kill X monsters quest series.
However generally I don't except much from AoC. Holy trinity and class-levels system is running strong in this game. Most likely game is going to be same old quest, camp and grind festival. Basically same old shit, just packed differently. Going to play maybe 2-3 months.

So you've already got a doom date for Age of Conan. Why are people so quick to make a snap judgement on something that's not even out.

n00bs. That's what I say.
Why are people already drooling for game that's not even out? I have saw that too often in too many games under development.
AoC is going to be class-level game with holy trinity. It is going to be static fantasy world where players are able to build few pointless buildings to predesigned spots. Players are going to consume premade content that is controlled by developers. It might have much more better combat system, more content for mature players and more intresting premade content in first 20 levels - but it is not going to be next messiah.
I am just tired to fast content, class-level, holy trinity, fantasy and static world games. When I receive first quest where I am asked to kill X monsters, I am ready to quit.

I'm with this guy. I have yet to see something in AoC that truly makes me want to buy the game. I'm sure the combat will be great, and the mature content will push the limits, but that's not a good enough reason for me to buy the game. It's far from revolutionary and even further from making a game enjoyable for more than the first 20 levels, which in this game will be spent by yourself. I'm hoping that they have something up their sleeves that'll make me want to buy this game, since I've been following it for a long time.
But as a question to Resetgun, What do you expect first quests to ask you to do other than kill X monsters?

You have understand me wrong. Unless AoC turn out to be completly disaster after launch, I am most likely going to buy it. It is only MMORPG under development that I am currently waiting for. 2-3 months play time (or even more) is not bad from computer game - I play most of single player games much shorter time. So it is going to have pretty good cost/entertaiment value. Most likely AoC is going to be RELATIVELY good MMORPG game. However, you must remember that most MMORPG are bad quality games.
First quests is going to be "talk to NPC X that is standing there". After that you are typically asked to kill bunnies that are jumping happily around, because NPC want get some bunny soap to his old sister, who is too tired to get bunny soap from nearby bar. Hopefully AoC will change this and instead of killing bunnies or rats you are asked to escape from slave galley...

I usually play a MMORPG for a while since it's always having things added to it, etc. I don't really treat it like a single player game.
I understand your point about single player games, play them maybe a few times and that's it.
All the MMORPGs are just like the one before it... there's really nothing you can do to change the mechanics of a MMORPG.

Incidently, two of the first things developers promised the AOC community is that we will never ever have kill x mobs missions, and we will never have to kill rats either. I think its fairly safe to say they wont go for the loophole and give us gophers or something equally rediculous. Ironically enough the very first thing you do in the game is defeat your slavemaster with a broken chain and escape from a slave galley...
Also, player cities are in specific zones, but not predestined locations. The "holy trinity" is not a factor here, which you would realize the minute you bothered taking a close look at the priest class

Rofl, kill bunnies that are jumping happily around....... Its so true, which is why its so funny. But anyway, I remember hearing Gaute Godager say in one of the videos, that you "don't" start off fighting rats. And he made it clear that its not one of those games. So i assume they were thinking the same thing your thinking. Which is the beginning of an MMORPG is usually pretty boring, as far as fighting enemies and questing goes.
And yes, i agree escaping from the slave galley would be an awesome first quest.
Oh, i just realised someone already commented about the rat killing. Oops! Maybe next time i'll finish reading the rest of the posts! Just ahhh......... Disregard anything i said.
Just hearing the sound of the arrows did it for me. Just like the movies! The whole thing feels right, I'm just hoping it is right when I sign up to play. Of course, no having to kill the local rat population sort assured me the game had something right:-)
Funcom already has a method of dealing with that. Anarchy online does a check before your char can fire on someone else. If you are way out of the lvl range you get a nice lil message saying sorry try again in a few lvls. I like this. ganking newbs is griefing plain and simple. it's not carebear. Do you kick puppies on your way home from work? I'm expecting excellent well thought out game play. an intuative interface. complexity to keep my gaming needs satisfied, and full out smackfesting. Big titted avatars played by men wont thrill me. Our ao guild used to have thong races all the time for new members. Funcom is an amazing company that always brings out interesting material. Different than the current mold. And when they fuxor up they own up. They provide excellent customer service and actually listen to their playerbase...that's worth my sub price alone. BTW smirch quoting you isnt really an attack. I like most of what you have written in various forums, but newb spanking is just pointless and unproductive. will only lead to people leaving.
I hope thats not true that they will put on a PvP lvl limit. I actually prefer the Open PvP, I mean common! Its Conan for crying out loud! Its supposed to be brutal and unforgiving!!!
EQ2 has a system like that, and its totaly backfiring. I remeber when playing WoW, that at most times ppl will not bother to attack because they might be tired of it or remember what it was like being low lvl and getting ganked. But now at EQ2 you are NEVER safe. People are gankcrazy because they are limited to amount of killing they can to thanks to the lvl limit. ITs just a silly idea.
If FunCom go for the lvl limitation, then Age of Conan has just lost my interest. But I do know for a fact (as stated in there site) there will be different gamestyle servers. So hopfully there will be an open PvP.

There isnt going to be a level limit in this game, there are however some other features that limit pvp. For example, a bounty system will incur a penalty in the form of NPC bounty hunters for kills that can be considered "ganking" (IE. a level 80 slaughtering a level 20 in the middle of a city)

If there's not a max level in the game then why do they say the first 20 "levels" will be single player? Are there going to be level 1000 players 5 years down the road?
--------------------------------------------- I live to fight, and fight to live.
Level cap is 80. So minus the first 20 that will get you where you want to be... It's 60 levels.
The first 20 will get you use to the game, and when you finally get to the multi-player part of the MMORPG, you won't be riddled with everyone asking how you do this and that... so the first 20 levels will teach you how to play, how to get use to the game, get you in the class you want to be, etc.
So once the game starts rolling, everyone will be able to just jump in and get going. I think it's a great idea.

That sounds horrible. A fourth of the game is single player? The longest it's ever taken me to get used to a game is a couple levels. Not 20 out of 80. That's ridiculous. It didn't take 20 levels to get used to AO and that was out of 200 levels.
Not looking forward to that at all. If it was 5 or 10 levels of single player sure, but a fourth of the levels is too much IMO.

Don't see it as 20 out of 80. Just think that the game starts @ level 21. I understand your point, but I think this will work a lot of kinks out of the n00bs.
Also you'll only have to do this ONCE. One character and never again. So it's not that bad.

Well you are still "online", but from what I understand you are working on "singel player" missions that focus on every aspect of the game so you understand how to play.
FunCom mentioned that the first 20 levels will be allmost like a singer player game in length...god I hope not. I want to get to the online grouping fun asap!
Im looking forward to the Mature content and I am starting to like the look of the Skill tree. Great choices for skills, and it appears as though the game will be full of high level content. Just counting the days till release.

Cool.. Now, See Ya!
Im expecting the epic fun I had in Anarchy Online back in 02 after the Notum Wars expansion and prior to the Shadowlands expansion.
I'm looking forward to making friends with some mature people agian that actually will complete missions (Even if we die) *cough* WOW...
Im looking forward to massive PVP at all times of the night like I did in AO before Shadowlands came out and ruined the game for me and many others.
Im looking forward to PVP with a point, where if I win or loose I actually win or loose something. I grew tired of the PVP in a bottle (instance PVP without a purpuse that was WOW). Cant tell you how much fun I had defending my Towers or attacking others towers back in the day in AO.

When I mentioned the level limit, I was reffering to the practice of making it impossible to PvP with someone too far above or below your own level, not the max level

And yes, i agree escaping from the slave galley would be an awesome first quest.
Oops! Maybe next time i'll finish reading the rest of the posts! Just ahhh......... Disregard anything i said.
I am personaly looking forward to just point in one direction and run off into the wild and see what I run into!
True the viloent PvP is a draw, but its by far the selling point IMO. It just adds to the brutality of the world.
Just hearing the sound of the arrows did it for me. Just like the movies! The whole thing feels right, I'm just hoping it is right when I sign up to play. Of course, no having to kill the local rat population sort assured me the game had something right:-)
EQ2 has a system like that, and its totaly backfiring.

If there's not a max level in the game then why do they say the first 20 "levels" will be single player? Are there going to be level 1000 players 5 years down the road?

I live to fight, and fight to live.

FunCom mentioned that the first 20 levels will be allmost like a singer player game in length...god I hope not. I want to get to the online grouping fun asap!

You see, every mammal on this planet instinctively develops a natural equilibrium with their surrounding environment, but you humans do not. You spread to an area, and you multiply, and you multiply, until every natural resource is consumed. The only way you can survive is to spread to another area. There is another organism on this planet that follows the same pattern. Do you know what it is? A virus. Human beings are a disease, a cancer of this planet.-Mr.Smith
