Mythica: Game Cancelled!

You all might want to sit down for this one. Microsoft Game Studios has just announced they will be canceling the Mythica project. Here is what is posted on their home page:
Based on a careful evaluation of the competitive MMORPG landscape, Microsoft Game Studios has decided to cancel the Windows-based game "Mythica." As a result of this effort, job eliminations within Microsoft Game Studios will take place, and up to 40 employees may be impacted.
Adam Waalkes, studio manager at Microsoft Game Studios, stated:
Our goal with "Mythica" was to create a truly innovative massively multiplayer online role playing game. While the game looked ready to deliver advancements to the genre, after careful evaluation of the MMORPG landscape, MGS has decided to stream-line its portfolio, making fewer investments in this genre. After a rigorous review of current and future projects, the decision was made that Mythica would not be one of the projects we would continue to invest in.We truly appreciate all the support "Mythica" has received from its fans and the games community.
This comes as a shock to all of us at MMORPG.COM - we will keep Mythica on our game list for a while longer until all the dust settles.

Looked like it would suck anyway but maybe that's just me..
Not like it's Fallout 3 or anything..
Woah, what a shocker. I had no idea they were having problems but as with some games they make or break. I know alot will be disapointed with this news.

I guess they are the only MMORPG developers who have "waked up and smelt the coffee".
Although there are over 6 BIG competitors to the mmorpg genre, only one or two will become sucessful. I mean lets be reasonable here, who's actually going to pay for 2 mmorpgs?
Thats why i think microsoft is scared that if one of the 6 or so mmorpg's becomes better than theirs, their game is basically trash.
Viking / Norse based MMORPGS seemed to be doomed to fail.

there fan base was quite small actually although its a lot of money gone on that project, and It was a good idea, I really liked some of the systems, such as the race and armor system and well as the instance system.
after 6 or so years, I had to change it a little...
wow M$ finally figured out that mmorpgs is not their bag, that there are actually others out there that are better than them. M$ really screwed Turbine over by pushing the release of AC2, it wasn't the game the devs wanted and it ended up pretty much a failure. Glad Turbine bought the rights back to the game, too bad it's a little too late to recover from their grip. M$ should just stick to bugging windows and making Mr. Gates more money. I suppose that they'd hate to see themselves release a game that sucks and actually have their numbers go down.
I wonder if it had anything to do with them being sued over the name by mythic? The game sounded interesting, but they did seem to drop the ball with Asheron's call 2.
I was pretty disappointed by this news. I thought that Mythica had potential to be a real contender in the next round of releases. But I guess we'll never know.

Viking mythology is one of the richest in the pages of human history.
Finally a game was exploring that richness more, giving us a inside view of northern culture with fantasy elements of course.
EQ, AC, DAOC, SB, WOW..... you name the mmorpg.. you get one common thing... all of them have the same problems, all of them are based on the same game concept.
With Mythica.... besides being based entirely on the rich nordic culture.... you would get one original thing:
DIFFERENT AND ORIGINAL GAMEPLAY
Just read the info about this game and you can easily conclude that this game was going to be something different at least.
From all the coming mmorpgs out there (most being released in 2004) Mythica was the one i was hoping the most.
Sure... i can turn to EQ2 WOW or even Dark & Light but im pretty sure none of them would be as half as original as Mythica would be.
Besides.... for a viking culture fan... this game would be like paradise to me (gameplay wise of course).
Its a shame MS gave up on this project.... the game was already looking so cool i could only drool over it and dream.
I hope MS reconsider.... at least i would hope all the work the developers have put in the game is not laid in waste.
At least a single player game based on Mythica should come out, maybe a never-ending 1 player game with multiplayer options..... its the least they could do to make justice to all the work that went down the drain.
Mythica could be great... was looking great...
What can i say? I can just hope MS reconsider..... not only about this great project..... but also to the jobs of many fine-working and talented people.
