Sadly, Microsoft (R) has annocuned the cancellation of it's massivve MMORPG Mythica (R)
It really makes you think was this cancellation agged on my the Mythic Industry? over there past
lawsuit? Well I cannot speculate on that but I can say that I had watched Mythica grow from an Ideal to a Physical Tangabile MMORPG :( And It saddens me to know that a company like Microsoft would let a invention like this to slip through thier fingers :(

If I where the game developers at Mythica I would find a new sponcer, because this game has potentual

I don't know much about the game, but they did get pretty far with developement, right? It's crazy to just stop like that. I doubt money really was the problem here. It's MS we are talking about after all. They wouldn't really lose anything on it. =)

    Oh well..

Its kind of weird that a game thats been in development for a while would just stop, maybe they remembered back when they help make AC2 and it failing at launch.

Wth. Never was interested that much in the game because of lack of PvP, but wth did they cancel it?

Yeah, it's a shame to think of all the work that went into it that will now be archived somewhere and forgotten about but that's business ::::05::

Based on a careful evaluation of the competitive MMORPG landscape, Microsoft Game Studios has decided to cancel the Windows-based game “Mythica.”  As a result of this effort, job eliminations within Microsoft Game Studios will take place, and up to 40 employees may be impacted.

Adam Waalkes, studio manager at Microsoft Game Studios, stated:

Our goal with ‘Mythica’ was to create a truly innovative massively multiplayer online role playing game.  While the game looked ready to deliver advancements to the genre, after careful evaluation of the MMORPG landscape, MGS has decided to stream-line its portfolio, making fewer investments in this genre. After a rigorous review of current and future projects, the decision was made that Mythica would not be one of the projects we would continue to invest in.

We truly appreciate all the support ‘Mythica’ has received from its fans and the games community.

What happened? Granted I'm guessing a bit, but it sounds like to me they have been working on a project that isn't up to current game standards. It would mean starting over from scratch in other to make the game current.... MS now has sigil games. AC didn't go so well for MS. Even MS can't endlessly toss money down a pit, they have to get a return at some point, and they didn't see that happening with Mythica.

The lawsuit had 0% to do with this, if anything it gave the game more attention than it got otherwise.

Not unusual to see the plug pulled so far in development.

UO2 was unplugged when it was all set to go into beta.

The original middle earth online went under also set to go into beta back in 2000 or so due to a lawsuit over the name or something.

Couple others went under short of beta too.

I think MS felt the mmorpg industry was too saturated and be more so by time the game comes out and unplugged it.

Also the fact AC2 did really poorly might have something to do with it.

Microsoft probably knows that Mythica won't be able to stand up against WoW, UX:O and Eq2. We all know for company making mmorpgs, subcribers number are the most important. Whatsmore its Microsoft we are refering to here. Another reason adding to the shutdown of Mythica is because of AC2 failure. Adding these two factors = no money making for MSoft.
