Still no word on this? I checked the other boards the link is to yesterday, but that post was the day before that even.

Is it just BS? Why make a statement like that and then leave everyone hanging for 3 days (including today)?

No idea, I did notice they edited what the "news" said to be more vague than it first was. I think I'll take that free 7 day trial of DDO while this blows over. I doubt it's gotten better since the last time I played it but WTH, its free.

They basically jumped the gun on announcing anything and was told so by ALL the parties involved.

Basically... they got a big heaping bowl of STFU.  We'll know this when they want us to... but one of my sources said only this...

Its pretty clear that LEC is not happy with the current amount of players and feel that there is more credits to be made of this, They might have realized that 350k users wasnt so bad afterall? And it might have been better to improve those numbers by improving the game that most(80%) of the playerbase wants.
Bad design and business desitions have been made, the blame game begun(Smedders and Freeman) and im not gonna be suprised if Torres tries to save his neck by giving the players what they want.

This im sure of, pre-CU is coming back in one form or another. I just hope and pray that SOE isnt a part of it.

I don't think I'd be happy with just PreCU coming back. If you think that PreCU was without flaw, then you're looking at the game with rose colored glasses on.

Granted, any roll back to preNGE would be great.

What I want more than any other thing, is to see a new Star Wars MMO that SOE has absolutely nothing to do with. A new game that no one who has EVER worked for SOE has anything to do with it.

A new game that is a skill based, sandbox, with player housing and cities and space combat. It'd be great, but it isn't gonna happen anytime soon.

Yes.. it had flaws, but it had no flaws that I had a problem with. Nothing game-breaking for me.

SOE told LEC they could have close to WoW levels of subs by pushing the NGE so LEC wanting that for their game said DO IT. Needless to say it BACKFIRED! Now LEC is pissed because they gained none and lost almost all they had in subs and smed is making it sound like LEC pushed them into it and that they (SOE) are really the good guys in all this. Brenlo being the honest guy he is admitted that it was SOE who came up with the NGE but omitted the fact that they wanted it as badly for the game as LEC. Didn't  pan out I guess, eh?

LEC is guilty of wanting more than their market share for an IP that is a niche

SOE is guilty of being greedy and trying to impress a large corporation like LEC

Smed is guilty of trying to impress his golfing buddies by holding a large scale IP like Star Wars and thinking he's hot shit.

Torres is guilty of not listening, not getting it like the drunk guy told him and hiding under his desk when the heat is on.

I would say this is probably as close to the truth as anything.

Meh, I disagree with the brightly colored theory above.

I don't think that SOE went to LA and said they could get WoW level subscriptions with the NGE.  I think they went to LEC and said that they could make a lot more money by changing SWG so that it could adapt easily to next generation consoles, as they were planning on doing with DC Comics.

Either way, though, LA liked whatever SOE suggested and gave them the go ahead.

    That's kinda funny to me...

Because the first game like that in any way, that I personally played was Ultima Online.

Oddly enough the lead on that was Raph Koster aka designer dragon.

The second game I played like that was SWG... oddly enough there was that Koster guy again.

Both times we never fully got to see what he wanted to show us... just what the company pushed out to make a release by "x" date.

Yet you'd want exactly what he was trying to give you... but he couldn't make it having worked for SOE.

    Seems odd to me.

As to some other comments.  I personally don't belive SOE told LEC anything that would have lead to making the NGE.  At least not as far as it being SOE's idea to make.

SOE has had a few successful (for their time) MMO's.

LEC... Exactly how many Star Wars branded games have been release and succeeded?  As opposed to how many were total bombs.

Then you'd have to answer that by looking at LEC games.. Not something a third party made for them.

Back in the 90's when LEC was pushing out RTS Star Wars games.  It was one POS after the other.

The first game I even remember being "a hit" was X-Wing.  Later on Tie Fighter was a hit...  LEC has never impressed me in a way that I'll believe they had some golden clue how SWG should have been.

The Knights of the Old Republic games weren't created by LEC.  Bio Ware did the first and I forget who did the second.  Obviously they were licensed by LEC but... c'mon why does anyone think that LEC somehow knew/knows what was best for this game?

To that end since we may never truthfully know who pushed this crap.  If you play devils advocat and say it was LEC.. then it wouldn't matter who had made SWG for them.  It would have still ended up a steaming pile of bantha poop.

I mean... BioWare was  not overly happy with LEC after the game they developed... so why is it so easy for many to imagine that this was SOE's mess.

What I read from Smed's letter (if it was truthful in anyway).  Was that they were handcuffed by an IP holder that had no idea what made a good online game.

You can read into that how you want, but I know what that says to me.  Sony had never made changes to a game like they did SWG... it didn't follow any logic or patter they had used in their previous MMO's.

Its just very had to believe that it was their idea entirely.

I'm not saying they haven't ruined their other games (at least for my fun factor).  I'm just saying we never saw anything to the degree of what we saw in SWG's from them.  Nor have we since...

My pet theory is that LEC got "pro-active" with SWG around Jan'05.  WoW had been out a few months and going thru the roof, and LEC was unhappy about having "only" a quarter-million subs.  SOE had been working on the Combat Rebalance for a few months, and would be ready to launch it in a few more.  LEC lays down an ultimatim to increase subscriptions, and probably flat-out says "and make it more like WoW".

If you read the design documents on the CR (thanks Shayde), it does look a lot like the CU with regard to weapons and armor and (maybe) specials.  Clearly the CU was built on the CR base; the big changes were to increase "mass market appeal" (i.e. make it like every other MMO): levels, loot, dumbed-down crafting, particle effects, "magic spells" in place of crafted items.  As the CU was slapped together in 4-6 weeks tops, changes were being made in the live game to "reduce downtime", their new constant mantra.  Shorter shuttle wait times and much faster healing of wounds and BF.  Trainer ships suddenly got hyperdrives, when before you had to buy a crafted ship for that capability.  TEF replaced with Combatant and Special Forces.

NGE took us off the cliff, but CU was the slide down to that precipice.

That said, the true tragedy is this: We were once EXCITED about the CU.
Not many remeber that, but when the original CU was coming up the entire community was looking forward to it, with a bit of a nervous flutter. When the Original CU tests started (the CU we never got, before it was scraped for the CU we did get) a LOT of positive feedback came to the community from testers. None thought it was perfect, but it address the main concerns for the most part.
If we were all to list out top 20 issues with Pre-CU, it's safe to say that the top 10 would probably listed in 95% of our lists. The solutions for those issues weren't simple, but there were potential solutions.
Instead of pushing forward with the original CU they revamped it into the CU we did get, a flashier attempt to put a "fresh" WoW bling to the game IMO. The CU was delayed for sometime as a result, and when it was released, it was EXTEAMLY buggy, hence the 6 weeks of double XP and the Village People EXPLOSION. Does anyone remember how many rounds of respecs we got, I don't? It was insane.
Sadly, if they would have put the same effort into refining the original CU SWG would not be where it is today... a Shadow of what it once was...
I just can't believe they made the same mistakes twice... just wow...

Never was excited about the CU, I quit two weeks after it went live and never have resubscribed to SOEs retardation. But I would probably come back if there was a Pre-CU server that was fun. The CU was way too cartoonish and destroyed the game, the NGE doesn't make a difference to me, it's still destroyed.

You weren't excited about the orginal CU, the one we never got? All it was going to do was cap DOT's, Change Buffs and refit Armor... well, and few other things... It was the one they pulled for the crap CU we got... well, anyway, everyone I knew was looking forward to it since it took on the DOT issues, Armor Clones & Buff unbalance...

I am DEFINATLY NOT talking about the CU we got, that's what caused all of the issues & the revolt...

I'll start my own SWG... with Black Jack... and Hookers!!!

Seems odd to me. I don't know why it seems funny? I liked UO. I'd like to see an upgraded version. Better graphics, better combat, better controls and UI. And Koster wasn't the only developer on that team. He wasn't the only one on the SWG team either.

You can read into that how you want, but I know what that says to me.  Sony had never made changes to a game like they did SWG... it didn't follow any logic or patter they had used in their previous MMO's. As soon as SOE got their grubby hands on The Matrix Online they had... (drum roll) ... a "COMBAT UPGRADE". Sorry, but I'm gonna have to call shenanigans on you cause they have made major changes to the Matrix Online.

I'm not saying they haven't ruined their other games (at least for my fun factor).  I'm just saying we never saw anything to the degree of what we saw in SWG's from them.  Nor have we since... EQ2 has undergone alot of changes. They are completely revamping crafting. You're trying to make SOE sound like the victim in all this, and frankly I think it's a load of shit. LA didn't make SOE's customer service the most unfriendly, ineficient, can-response filled, dung heap that it was and is. LA didn't promt the guys at SOE to lie to the player base. Maybe it's just me, but you sound like an SOE employee.

I responded in blue inside the quote.

Ok so what is the answer?? is it just speculation or is SOE going to make some pre-cu servers and make this once great game shine again.
