Personally, for everyone to just bury the hatchet suddenly because one SOE representative made a half-assed apology, well, it seems ridiculous to me.

How about a refund, that'd be a lot more meaningful.

Also, for those who are trying to vilify LA/LEC and praise SOE, it's like numerous other posters have said, SOE isn't free of guilt. They earned their reputation of lying to their players, horrible customer service, etc through numerous titles. I'll just cite one; Planetside.

Personally, I don't believe a word from Smedley, SOE, or LA. It seems some chaos has gone down between the 3, and now they're slyly pointint fingers at each other instead of taking any blame. The best thing they could do is have a conference, and all 3 of them can apologize at the same time for all the crimes they committed against their player base.

Waiting for something fresh to arrive on the MMO scene...

  • hi,

i played swg since the beautiful days of 1 hour long cdef pistol squill hunts with swoops.. after i got my jedi i suck through the CU and the NGE, but due to spiralling population numbers and such i quit like most people here it seems.

tbh, the CU didn't phase me too much, i could live with it - at times i preferred it. NGE though was nothing short of horrific. i won't keep going because i'm just repeating what has been said 1x10^99 times. i guess my point is the other day i was wondering if there would ever be a pre-cu/nge server - or a swg2..

do you think enough people would come back to a fresh pre-cu server? i certainly would, however as pointed out earlier, it would need updates as the game would be pretty dated. nothing major, as said earlier there was nothing game breaking.

also with the swgemu, does everybody start from scratch? id like to see that :o)

    um yea. my two cents.

    Hi back

Absolutly. There are WELL over 100k players wandering through MMO's, looking for a replacement. It's pretty amazing, and very telling, that SWG had/has such a large pull. In fact, I believe that most current NGE players would join us as well.

    Yup, and /agree.

I'll start my own SWG... with Black Jack... and Hookers!!!

    In fact, forget the SWG!!!!

I'll second that, and add: StarNick, or anyone else here for that matter, if you ever want to RP a Commando, feel free to join (play a round or two) my Clan in CoD2 S&D... Do or Die, there is no try. Plant or be Planted.

I feel left out, I'm an old crusty MBH. At least I got to hear things like "Please don't kill me" from my vitcims.

Don't feel left out. I've had a MBH since launch (well, ok, since they add LLC's, but you know what I mean) and it is truely my favorite. I miss hunting real Jedi, that was a HECK of a lot of fun. My first Jedi kill was back in the days of Stun Comp. It's OK... /sniffle

I just gotta ask - but are you the same wolfmann from the commando forums? There are probably many people with that or similar names, but I do remember a frequent poster on the commando forums with a wolfman name.

They have also earned their reputation for excellent games. I'll cite one: Everquest 2. Which still remains in the top 5 MMO's on this very site. Could you imagine if we judged Maxis on Sim Isle? You can't use a single game and paint all their games as bad and evil because the devs of one game screwed up.  As for smed, I don't like the guy but my opinion is he know a whole let less on whats going on. He's the head of the whole department, if they tell him everything is fine and cheery he'll make some statement repeating those words, even if they aren't.  It doesn't mean I like him any more, but you have to ealize he's got a lot more on his plate then SWG.

And LA has made bad games and poor changes in the past.  They've also made some great games, but  in my eyes LA is famous for having really great games and having features that just ever so slightly limit the games full potential.

    Yes and yes.

Commando for life, altho once they made "Commando" into the "heavy guy"....I left the commando forums to let the "heavy weapons!! wheeeeee!!!" guys to argue the future of Commando

All my characters, save for 2 TC characters are still Commandos tho...But without a decent game to play, I see no reason to keep a subscription just so I can continue being the Storm Commando I always strived to be.

I suggest that we all wait for a new star wars online game and not scratch our wounds. SOE has proved once again that does not care about what SWG is or was. If they find out that people want to pay for a SWG Pre cu or a SWG with trolls from WOW they will do it. Giving SOE any kind of attention is not the right thing to do.

    let SWG rest in peace.

There's still a problem with that.  Any future SW game will still involve LA.  LA is letting this continue.  For many SW fans, we almost have to get them to turn it around.  If LA just ignores us, then that will make it difficult to buy ANY SW game ever again.
I hadn't gotten either of the KOTOR games before the NGE.  There was no point.  I'd play SWG every moment I had.  Now that SWG is gone, I want to try those games, but I won't give LA any money while they let NGE continue.  It's difficult.

This SWG problem have efected me alot, alot more than i thought, b4 swg i really didnet like swg, i mean, it was ok, but not that nice, while playing swg i liked it more and more, i saw the movies all the time, in th end i really liked the SW universe, and realised that swg made me like it... after the critical stuff SOE and LA did with Pre cu and cu, and gave us NGE, i dislike alot that invovls SW, when i see a SW movie and i can get sad cous i miss SWG, so i dont see the movies anymore or play the SW games i have... i dont think i will be buying any SW games cous of it, as it makes me sad kinda

    QFE.

Frankly I think any MMO tied to a license-holder as misguided as LA has been recently is doomed.

At this point, the most I hope that SWG can give the gaming industry is:

    (a) Classic case study for game management classes:  "Do not do this 101"

    (b) A lot of great design work that a sci-fi MMO not tied to a license could use as the basis for a playable game.

If somebody told me a very talented team at a small company was taking all the pre-CU code and changing the skins to remove Star Wars from it entirely, not including anything remotely akin to Jedi, and putting in about six months more work to balance and learn from pre-CU balancing issues ......

I'd try it.  I think it would have an audience.  Five million?  Probably not.  Half a million?  I think so.  If you're not just greedy as HELL that's enough to run this game.

I agree. I was given a beta of the game and played it almost daily up to about 3months into the CU. The Star Wars part of the game was cool but what kept me playing was the gameplay. I would happily take the $45 a month i was giving to SOE and give it to another company for the same game experience. And i know probably 15 other people that would do the same and they each probably know 15 other people that would pay that too. I'm sure the game would make money, all they have to do is balance it out, add some content, and learn from SOE's mistakes.

If the game was to come out, even if the starwars references were gone, the game itself is compelling enough for me still to play it. i left swg after the CU and NGE. Since that day ive been wanting to return to it and awaitng for news to suggest it would return to 'old skool'.. now this has come and i can say that i will be following this forum like none before!

Bring back the master doctors getting fat pockets of buffing!!! oh rite!!

I'd play a game that had Pre-CU gameplay in it, even if it wasn't Star Wars.  Provided that it also doesn't have Elves, Dwarves, Goblins, etc.
