Woah sodomy is illegal?

Okay, i know alot of things but i was still confused on what sodomy was, yes yes laugh it up, but my college course that iam taking we had to debate in class if sodomy should be legal or not between two consenting adults.
After i read on what sodomy was i was a bit surprised many states still find this illegal, i mean what goes on in the bedroom between two ADULTs is their own buisness, but i was shocked to find out many states still find it very illegal even if you get caught doing it in your own house, the state arkansas has the maximum punishment with 20 years - life in jail.

The Universal Code of Military Justice (UCMJ) has the same maximum penalty for everything from Jaywalking to a Traitor.
Sodomy is illegal according to UCMJ Law and therefore has the maximum penalty of Death.
So, technically... if your commander walks in on your screwing your wife from behind, then you could be put to death the next day. :-P

Besides, they are punishing sodomy by placing you in a sodomy-infested prison....

Are you still talking about the UCMJ (Uniform Code of Military Justice) if so that is not true. Some states, counties, and municipalities might have more indepth laws or ordinances, that I am not sure of.

Also not everything is punishable by death. Actually very few things are (treason, desertion in time of war, ect.)

I remember back when I was in high school, we were told in Sex-Ed that sodomy was considered a "crime against nature" in Massachusetts, and punishable with imprisonment for 20 years. I did a little research to see if that was a crock, and found that it was indeed true.
Not sure if it is still illegal here now, but could you imagine the task force assigned to that line of investigation?

Any person subject to this chapter who engages in unnatural carnal copulation with another person of the same or opposite sex or with an animal is guilty of sodomy. Penetration , however slight, is sufficient to complete the offense.

It is a crime, and if you could find a prosecutor that wanted to pursue it, he could probably get a conviction pretty easily (with all the video footage).
Right now in our current system of justice there are higher ranking crimes to deal with. They (the police) can also arrest you for adultery in many states.

I just want to point out that, that is About.com's explaination of it.
and i have no idea where the hell they got the Maximum punishment stuff. They do not quote any articles next to it.

Are you serious? If so where are you getting your definition of prostitution? Every law I have read states that it is sex or sex act for compensation. It does not matter if the "Jon" actually finishes.

Uh, no. Sodomy relates to penetration, not the position you are in when the penetration happens. i.e. vaginal sex done from "doggy style" is most certainly not sodomy.

Ex: Anal or oral.

To the porn star thing: Remember, that they are getting paid to have sex in general, and that pornography is considered an "art form" in the movie business. Kind of funny, if you ask me.

it's been done in the 70s when it became commercialized I believe. I don't remeber the details,. but it all came down to something like this (I'm not gonna debate the details because, frankly, I couldn't care less about it):
a) being optional and concensual between all parties involved
b) non-private exibition (a camera is filming).
Prostitution needs to be legalized anyways. Face it, it won't go away because it never has gone away over the millenia, and I'd much rather see people healthy and with rights, than diseased and almost enslaved sex workers.
It's entertainment, that's all, except it involves people playing with their bodies. Some put morality in the mix, but that's their personal view. Other people can be extremely casual about all of this, and that's their personal view as well.

There are lots of different definitions for sodomy...but I think it's understood by most to mean homosexual sex. The word sodomy comes form the story in the bible...after the homosexual practices of men living in Sodom.
