Hello everyone. I'm new here and would like to find a good game to play but I cannot trust the ratings so I will ask the peoples.
First let me list the games I've played and what I think of them.
EVE online = Very tough learning curve, Lots of travelling and it takes a few days to get most anything done.
I think this is a game for poloticians. Or corporate managers, infact I think my boss plays this instead of consulting his employees.
Also It just got boring after a couple weeks because it was so slow. And jumping to gates isn't an mmo to me.
Bad economy and crafting takes WAY too long.
WoW = Don't like it because it's mainstream. I could never level up a character without buying 200 gold for $25 from some poor asian kid
Also once you get to a certain point it takes too long to level up. But soloing was awsome in this game. Not a good economy and crafting wasn't that great. Never got to lvl 60 so I don't know what pvp is like
City of Heros = It was cool to make a hero and pretend for a while but there is very little content in this game.
PvP and PvE got really boring fast. the way they made their instances was not fun.. Plus I think being limited on your characters creation was flustering. They should have a 'try it before you buy it' type of thing in there.
Ok economy and is there crafting in this game??
Saga Of Ryzom = So far the best but still not my cup of tea. I like the idea of being able to level up in anything you want and the crafting system was ok. But this is a game with a high learning curve and you need at least ten friends to join you to have fun. Soloing is very tough and boring because the GM's don't let people talk in the general chat. Perfect economy and crafting was expensive but not too bad.
Star Wars Galaxy = I played this when It first came out and it was cool, but by the time I wanted to come back to it the economy was already messed up and the game never got better just worst. Bad economy and bad crafting when I last played it.
Auto Assault = I only played the beta of this for about 2 days
very flustering trying to drive a car and play a shallow mmo at the same time. Reminded me and got boring like City of Heros within those two days. Ok economy and is there crafting?
Hero = I downloaded it, logged on, tried to move around and then quit
lol.. I need the ability to customize my controls and the veiw of my character. Have no idead what the economy is like because I didn't even like running around lol!
In all these games I've played I haven't lasted more then 2 months. WoW being the longest game I've played.
But I want to level up and kill new mobs not the same looking ones. I don't like the feeling of leveling up just to kill the same things. I want to see or kill or explore or create something new when I level up.
What I want in a game. Total freedom!! And the ability to solo and it plays like wow or ryzom with nice pretty graphics.(meaning its 3rd person and not text based or 2d and uses wasd controls). I don't mind community because I mostly solo and read chats while I do, Or craft things to sell or use. Economy is important, it can't be like grind for 10 days just to buy a 20 slot bag, or travel all day just to buy a new spaceship. Oh and the ability to make a pretty girl character.. So far City of Heros has the cutest female characters. I don't like to look at male a$$ when I play all day long
And also I like exploring places to a big world. And nothing that is on the top of the mmorpg.com list of popular games.
I don't want to fight with a toothpick, or be limited by gravity. I guess I need something extreme and open and more free. I am willing to pay for this.
I think I just need to make my own game because I've been searching for years now for a good mmo. Or perhaps I am impossible?

Yeah, i don't think the game you're looking for currently exist
Yet, for having read your post, i might have a suggestion: Dark age of Camelot. It doesn't fill all your desire, but you can definitely solo in this game and the world is hell of large. (if you choose a class that solo well. You can send me a pm if you want to talk about it further)
The PvP is good but once again, you can only achieve so much all by yourself. Finding a good group or guild to run with will push your gaming experience a long way, yet you can travel with large relic raids even not being invited and still accomplish something for yourself and your realm.
That's my suggestion, at least until War Hammer come out. The good news is that it's the same company that develop it, (Mythic) so if you like Daoc, you can probably assume you will like War Hammer too since they'll keep the best from their original game and tweak it to the war hammer lore.
What deserves to be done, deserves to be "well" done...
On Topic: Why don't you try giving the Everquest duo a go? Oh, that's right, you already tried Star Wars Galaxies which gave you a bad impression when SOE came alone. Hero Online is what we call a Korean grindfest. These people know nothing but to mass produce the same concept over and over. The time it takes you to level is excruciatingly long and is what we refer to as a "grind". Korean games have point and click movement. Only rarely does a decent Korean game come along. Such as Guild Wars or Lineage II, but many dislike them still (such as myself). If you are looking for WASD movement, take a look at the games in development forums. An MMOFPS fits the bill nicely as well. I've heard people say that Planetside is good, but it is expensive as hell. Don't discriminate against Asians (except Koreans). If you want a better WoW, then I suggest waiting for Vanguard to come out and if you want a fast paced game wait for Fury.
I'm banished from the MMORPG world at this point because I've found my WC3 disks and I am enjoying the hell out of myself playing custom maps with other people.
The problem is that you don't find any MMO styles out there fun right now. The MMO market of today is not your cup of tea. I'd suggest playing some single player games for another year and then try out what's new. Maybe even two years.
I've played nearly every big name out there and all of them have more than one thing you hated about the other games you've played and those things were fundemental.
If I was you, I would wait for 2Moons to come out. It seems it will be the most violent MMO ever. It looks and sounds to be the most promissing mmo so far.
When I ran into 3D space trading mmos, people seem to beg for way a lot more than just fly one ship at a time.
More freedom to me in any game type either sci-fi or medival means a player can do whatever he wants rathere than just walk around land toting a weapon and killing creatures and other players. It's an actual player's dream in any mmo to either be just a guy with weapons alone or have it's very own kingdom with NPC armies and such.

Give me lights give me action. With a touch of a button!
The economy on the classic server ain't that bad btw. But i would stay away from the old one.

It was bad on Gareth the last time I played. A newbie couldn't buy anything. The market was geared towards twinks just like every game is. ToA servers are even worse, just like you said, but not as bad as they used to be.
Thanks everyone for the replies.
How is this color of text? It's soft on the eyes for me
I can't play FPS games I am not coordinated enough, one of the reasons I didn't like Auto Assault.
Also I forgot to mention I played Guild wars, But even though I don't talk to the people running around in mmo's I still want to see them run around.. And that only happens inside of the city.. I gave that game about
2 days. It seemed like a show-off fest.
And I like to RP to a certain extent when I do speak. I don't like being called a newb even though I am one
When I speak of freedom I am talking about Freedom with my character leveling up and exploring.
For example in Ryzom one can level up craft, healing, melee and casting all on one character.. And exploring isn't much possible because the mobs that will attack you sometimes block your way out of a city, Something I miss from the old SWG is being able to actually run out of the city and past mobs or between them.. In ryzom I would try this and the lag would deceive me and the mob would teleport right into my face. Also there is no caves, I really liked being in the caves in WoW (instances) But again I was fighting the same things from lvl 1 - 50. EVE was almost too open and nothing to explore except another planet that you can fly right through
I read somewhere that someone said EVE was an interactive screen saver thats so true
I really wish I could mix some things from every game.. Like the abilities my character gets in CoH flying around or at least hover, Then some cool caves from WoW and the way things feel (precise) and the ability to level up in anything I want with the same character like ryzom, And the ability to explore like in early SWG and perhaps some parts of WoW.. I don't mind I guess a little bit of a grind, just as long as I know it's for a purpose like being able to kill new mobs..
I don't know.. It's frustraiting really.
What is Vangaurd? IS there a trial of it?
Thanks again for your help people, I Apreciate it. If anyone has any good ideas let me know. Until then I will continue to search through no-name MMo's for the best one. Even if it's at the bottom on the list here
That's my dilemma right now: every mmo on the market sucks. I love the concept of MMORPG's but nothing is worth playing as of right now. I gave up on MMO's to play fps... for a while.
i feel u my problem is my character is always invisible and so is everyone else
Wow this looks really cool in the screen shots, I'm downloading now
Thanks once more Aphar I didn't see this on the list of games. I was downloading Daoc but I cancelled that because of what others said.
Been looking for about 45min lol...
Edit wow.. maybe I will wait until they fix some things before I try to make an account or trial account..
I read the forums there and people are getting hacked!!
The site for help is extremely slow. I almost pulled my eyeballs out.. I found some solutions
but it included downloading more huge files so I've given up on it..
I try space cowboy.. It looks like it could be fun but again the whole control issue turned me off..
Plus there was lots of lag =(
I guess I will try Silkroad or what ever it was called and then some others I saw on the list.
If anyone has any ideas please post them with great detail about all the aspects.
Thanks again for those who have helped me so far.
How can a game that have lateral skill advancement over levels, be an WoW clone?
Do you know what RvR is? Do you know where RvR comes from? That's right, DAoC. Do you know where we'll see the next part of RvR? That's right, in WAR.
Guild Wars does not take much time to level in, although that does not seem to meet the rest of your criteria for a sandbox environment.
Lots of interesting stuff of the horizon for the end of '06 and into '07. Maybe research some upcoming titles and kill some time with console games, seems to be an appealing option for many currently. Good luck.
So far I'm having alot of fun in this game! I love how the combat is, my character can hit really fast!!
And I Don't mind the Mario Brothers goofy look.. But I've already had some community issues!
So I will reserve judgement until later..
Back to Flyff
I have a couple questions for you since I'm hearing that Flyff is good. First, how old are you? This matters, because I am an older person and peoples taste change over age. If you are a teenager or younger, I would probably not enjoy this game if it appeals to you. If you are not a teenager, but don't have the responsiblities of raising a family, then this game probably won't appeal to me.
Parents are on a different maturity plane, and I just don't want to waste time downloading a game whose community will drive me nuts or the gameplay is targeted to the younger generation. I like kids, I have one, so it's not a flame, I just don't want to spend my time playing a game meant for kids or full of children.

Thanks Theodoryk. I didn't think so. I looked at the cartoonish anime graphics and thought that my brother in-law (age 14) would have liked this when he was younger. I also believe but can't remember, that a lot of people were complaining about the horrible community cause of the kids.
I just read that his age was 27 and thought that maybe I remember incorrectly and the game is full of adults, but then I thought that maybe he lied on his age like many others do to avoid the kiddie remarks.
I usually have the policy of trying games before judging them, but games like Maplestory and Flyff simply wouldn't appeal to you exactly because of the "cutesy kiddie" theme they entail. I see your having quite some difficulty finding a game to play....I must admit that I'm currently in the same boat. I've been playing alot of old strategy games lately and dabbling in some free trials, but it seems like our options are currently exhausted. I think I read in another thread that you'll be giving Final Fantasy XI a shot, yes? Let me know how that works out for you, we seem to have the same criteria when it comes to online gaming so I'm interested as to what impression it makes on you.

Okay. I'll start a new thread on it after I get a good idea of what it's about. I usually create a "First Impression" thread, a "One or Two week review" thread, and a "Final Review" for when I reach a high enough level to get a good idea of what the rest of the game will be like. Such as lvl 30 in FFXI if I understand right.
Currently I play EQ2 and SWG. I enjoy SWG and my old guild is still there in full force. The gameplay is back to the way it was before the NGE as well, so I enjoy that as well. EQ2 I only keep pushing myself through, hoping that it will get better, but as for now EQ2 is pretty boring and unimmersive. It's the whole zoning thing that doesn't catch you too wel. Your in a lavish city and walk out the door and step in a swamp or another door and step in a forest. Just not believable at all and the zones are pretty small as well. Combat is boring too. The artwork is pretty bland as well on most things. The graphics are superb though. But that matters very little when the rest of the game is just...well blah? The community is great
