I love Warhammer and I hope to love WAR!, but the recent beta screen shots are very disapointing. War! should be built for now and the future not for the past. yes yes wow's graphics are cartoonie and yes every one loves it well used too, but damn come one guys the graphics are important for immersion and warhammer is a dark and dwery game that should be dark and dwery and full of detail espically in the creatures. this last flying witch/deamon reminds me of my AC days and there lowely p200 or less graphics. Some of the pictures on this site show much promise and the chacter graphics are nice, but damn most of the badguys are ugly and extreemly lowpolygon counts or high counts but badly done. This really needs to change when it gets closer to final. Sad part about this rant is i am really not a graphics are all that makes the game good. I much prefer story and background and the WOW (not worldofwarcraft) factor. Much like seeing a sunrise or set in ac way back in the day from the mountian tops. One reason i think the last warhammer failed was graphics and they have Wicked ideas already in there alpha and would have made one hell of a game even with the crapy graphics. But i have yet to hear the same type of things in this WAR!! yes many other great ideas and great things, but the graphics need to be kicked up a notch or 2.
Sorry for my rant but I want to LOVE this game, and have it do EVIL! justice to the Warhammer universe that I love so much.

could you come with some suggestions for better graphics(like graphics of another game)?
sure the characters look cartoonish, but so are the miniatures, in some way. www.warhammer.com
for me, they almost look exactly like the miniatures, which is why i like the game alot
1) You build MMORPGs for systems of now and the PRESENT. If you want a game that's build for now and the future, you should head to the singleplayer market. MMORPGs is all about getting subscribtions, so reaching the lower end systems is optimale.
2) Graphics don't make the game, you said that yourself. So far, i'm pleased with what i see - Very warhammerish.
I am not asking for uber, just better. with todays engines you can have feature customization so its playable on say 1.8ghz with a older say 2yr old card thats playable and still looks like the screenshots and those that have the 5ghz and next gen graphics and say 6ghz and 3x gen graphics the game will still be revelent to the player and his system. To me its more about the details then the pretties, like some of the temples and tree's in this game look great, for now at least. BUT they can look 10x better. the branches and vines in some of the shots just look oldschool. some of the creatures just need more detail, most of what i want is just more details and more gore and Darkness, not just black where you can't see, but evil in the lands and the grass and the trees and the music. I have seen some of the screens from say vanguard and they are doing the enviroment great, but also need work on the details of the creatures. Since we see mostly creatures and fight them to improve our toons, i just want they to look cool and well thought out and planned with lots of detail, like for examply blood on the claws or the teeth if it had freshely killed or is attacking you or more details in the wings so they look like flesh, something with reality too it maybe hair or fur, or something that shows they spent more then 30mins on. not including animation.
And to the first comment. yes i know its a business and they have to make money and sooner the better, but that doesn't mean they have to make a sub par game, and since this game won't be out until next year at the earlest they need to plan for the avgerage hardware of the future not the now. also if they want longevity they need to plan for the future and what is comming in the next 3yrs.
EDIT: forgot to mention the minatures, I like the minatures, they start with some descent detail in the puter and then and greatly improved by talented artiests unlike myself. Some of the minitures i have seen with there details would be unbelevable to see in a game, they aren't unicolored they have at least 10+ colors per minature with very entricate details and slight varients amount the troops in a squad not just clones. Again seeing what i have seen in minatures in a game would be mind blowing and i don't even expect that much. I just want something better and with the love i have for this universe i think it deserves to not be a cartoon.
War
Also, I dont see what's the matter with these new screenshots of mobs. The harpies look fine, the satyrs seem to have quite a bit more detail than anything else on the market and all of the terrain shown so far looks fine. The true test will be once we get to play the game and see all these things in motion, with multiple enemies on the screen at once while other players are running around killing em as well.
In closing I would like to say that as far as mmo's are concerned the lower the system requirements that are required (while still looking good) the happier I am. I say this because as soon as I join a guild or new people join the guild I am in they bring a plethora of tech issues that they expect us or me to fix for them. I say Bull$%!^! All these fecking nintendo kiddies that dont know their backsides from a hole in the ground want free fecking tech support for their hand me down systems rather than get off their fat lazy behinds open up a god danged web browser and research their own damnable problems and fix them their fecking selves.

It's better be hated for who you are, than loved for who you aren't.
still cant see whats so bad about it?
what i have seen there are 2 kind of graphics(in different qualities ofcourse):
- cartoony looking one, that has a hard time coming futher than it already is. :(WoW: www.the-nextlevel.com/previews/pc/world-warcraft/world-of-warcraft-a.jpg)
and:
- "plastic" looking one, where you can get ALOT of great realistic skins, and such, but it really drains the pc for speed - this is like everquest 2 to unreal tournament, where everquest is a rather low stage of it, i'd say.
and where unreal tournament(the one being made right now) really is the highest thing we will see for a while.
(unreal:www.asware.net/serendipity/uploads/screens/ut2007_e3_006.jpg)
(everquest 2: concours.jeuxonline.info/img/divers/0022-capture-2.jpg - know it isnt the best resolution)
basically, i find the cartoon look better, mostly because i dont need to look at barbie girls running around in armor, that clunks, because MMOs cant handle that kind of firepowah yet - IMO
lol, to the last comment i must say "TROLL" i am calling you out.
Of corse i looked at the shots thats why I made such a post.
I m not trolling i m just saying that, are you looking at the same gallery as i am? http://www.mmorpg.com/gamelist.cfm/setView/screens/gameID/239/setStart/1 ?
how are those graphics subpar please, i really dont understand the original post... subpar means they are inferior to other mmo's , and they are surely not...
and complaining about the graphics of a game that is not released and will not be released for another year isnt trolling? huh?
ok ok , your not trolling, the 2nd comment makes much more sense. yes those are the shots i was looking at. subpar as in future mmo as in nearing its release date. these graphics are good/great for 1yr maybe 2yrs ago, but for the now and 1yr 2yr 4yr from now these are going to be like uo graphics :P.
they are ok graphics, i just think they can do MUCH much better, and yes i know this isn't even beta but might as well complain as early as possible so it can get fixed. I don't want say "holographic" realism, but about 2 notches above what it is now. recycling there old engine instead of making a much better new one or buying one of they many good ones out there. maybe the shots don't do the alpha justice, maybe they are wicked cool in motion. but since i have not seen them in motion i can only comment on the stills. I also want to add i hope they dont make the player toons the lowest polycount creatures in the game. they should be near highest since we have to look at them all the time we play.
War
Another benefit of more cartoonier and less high-polygon grpahics is that you don't need a frankenstein's monster of a comp to play it smoothly, one benefit WoW definitely had.
In any case, WAR's graphics aren't nearly as cartoony as WoW's.
"Two things are infinite-the universe and human stupidity, and I'm not sure about the universe"-Albert Einstein
i would just like to know, what you define as great graphic? >.<
well thats kind of an open question, what i consider great. well great i probally won't see in my lifetime, it would be holographic, bloody dark gory and wicked evil. but what I expect of next gen games is probally something close to unreal2 graphics. But get this i am not even expecting those kind of graphics. I would at least like to see it at the lvl of vanguard. vanguards graphics from the screens seem to improve with every month/quarter closer to release. vanguard has graphic wise the graphics i would expect in the next gen.
WAR does have some good screenshots i just wish the whole game looked as good.
EDIT: I also like obvlion graphics and how you can customize them depending on your hardware setup. Don't get me wrong no matter what the graphics look like i will buy war, in the hopes of hidden depth and story that warhammer can provide.
im sorry, but(maybe its just me taking the very offensive guard when someone talks about WAR in a bad way) most of the vanguard pictures i have seen, isnt anything new, besides the "old" everquest 2 engine graphic. dolls with skin that is even more pure, than my arsh..
i liked the graphics in oblivion, but that is probaly also the best example of it, to date.
He's right, look at age of conan, cov,and eq2. Are those realistic cause they look plasticy?
This is warhammer, not oblivion my friend. I've seen the old WAR, it looks horrible. GW wanted the modesl and the game itself to look like thier product. As far as bad graphics. This game isn't coming out for about two years. If you look at the screens there is much more detail to the characters and terrain compared to WoW and mmo's that supposdly have "futuristic" graphics. As to the bushes and some shrubbery. I do not recall a single mmo have actually completed plant life, where you can see every brance and every leaf, it can be done, but it will be bad for game play.I know the graphics are cartoony, but its not WoW style, its warhammer style.
Not to mention that Oblivion's graphics required a monster of a computer to play with a respectable frame rate. AND most importantly it's not an MMO.
People tend to have ridiculous expectations when it comes to games. WAR's graphics are more than fine, they fit the tabletop games' look perfectly. There's no need for them to go the extra mile (as far as graphics go) to please a quite vocal yet small minority.
I'd rather have them focus on what's really important: game mechanics instead of wasting resources on graphics, a battle that's lost in advance anyhow because of the booming video card market.
If the WARHAMMER fans think the graphics are fine, that really says something.
Alot of these guys paint minatures and have said repeatedly that the graphics of WAR are SPOT ON.
I think most people just glance at the games graphics. Pull up a black orc screen shot, and a black orc minuature, one thats nicely painted mind you, and compare them.
