If there ever was a carebear game this is it. CoH not having PvP is more out of fear of a balancing nightmare that many other games experience and not because the developers want a more friendly atmosphere in their game. Arena combat is crap, plain and simple.
Also who says every villain has to have a giant scheme in mind. Marvel comics are full of villains of all shapes and sizes. Argueing on the side of not having player villains shows ignorance and a need to justify everything a dev does as good. Why would having player villains stop NPC villains from being important ? In Marvel a villain like Rhino would rob banks and battle his arch enemies, simple as that. Just have villains like Apocalypse in the game world as NPCs and the spirit of a superhero world would not be diminished by a few l33t d00dz.

whta kind of gamers will this game be attracting? are the fantasy gamers as closely linked to the comic and cartoon fans as we think?
the annoying players seem to disappear in most mmorpgs after the first couple months, so they can be dealt with, but will hard core players (i.e. longtime EQ and AO or AC players) be showing up for this one or will it be more fan based like most of the SWG community...
This game is going to be extremely popular. If you don't believe me, go over to the official website and check out their forums. Tons of people are active users on their. And I would say that more of these will be fan based players because the hard core players will be going into some of the other games coming out soon. They will probably choose something from the Big 4.

No, he means famous people like actors, athletes and stuff. Though I'm not sure if this is actually true or not, probably just rumors. But the boards do have literaly hundreds of people on them.
Anyway, the way I see it, it's either play yet another fantasy or scifi MMORPG or play an MMORPG which tries to break from the mold, at least genre-wise.

There are around 35,000 people registered on the CoH forums. And, yes, like others have said this isn't "Yet Another Elf Romp" -- this is my #1 most anticipated game as well. Can't wait. Can't wait!!!

Yup and most of those people stay on the board for hours in the "RolePlaying" section. Some should go there and read the stuff that they come up with, lol. Just from reading their stories and stuff, you can tell that these are some very imaginative people. And they will be the ones to make the game what it plans to be, the best mmorpg. The creative thinking that you see in that section is unlike anything I have ever seen on a forum or in a game period. As I said before, I forsee the endless sleepless nights and the weekend meetings for all the hardcore fans. And I, for one, will be right there for it all! I have just about $180 saved just for the nightly groupings that me and a few friends are planning (pizza, soda, chips, etc.). I'm in the process of making my music cds because I will have my own theme music for my hero, lmao.
Right now even if no one gets the game except the registered users on the forum, they would still be doing okay. I think it's going to be a popular game.

Well, I have to give NCSoft some credit. No one else had thought of the superhero idea for an MMO until they did. That is probably another reason a lot of people will try CoH out...it's a brand new idea.

Registered user numbers mean nothing. The game has some rabid carebear fans that are very vocal. Shadowbane had the same thing till even we realised how crappy it really was. CoH looks pretty but gameplay has not been proven to be decent.

Gorukha: They have responses from the beta testers posted on the forum. There aren't many post with complaints about gameplay. With how long the production of this game took, I doubt if it will have too many gameplay problems, if any at all.
