Wasnt it supposed to be winter 2006? They plan on releasing the game just as Pirates of The Caribbean is getting released? And in the start of SUmmer??? Yeah right.........GOOD LUCK
I rather get a full finished game, then hafl finished cuz guys like u bitch over it. Be patience, it will be rewarding in the end. So relax and try to be a beta tester in the mean while.
The OP ha sa point. I was excited about PotBS. But there are also a lot of other MMO's cming out, some now sooner then PotBS. And even with a whole year of fixing bugs, you know it's still going to come out with bugs. For me, this game has dropped from "can't wait to get it" to "if I have the time and money I'll probably get it". And it's just going to go down from there. And what is happening with beta? I signed up for it when they were taking applications, but I don't even know if it has started yet
listen, I bet that you are one of the people that also said "no avatar combat? wtf is that?"
Well, this release date is because of avatar combat and all of the other features that people were clamoring for. This is a small development team working on a massive mainstream project. I don't know what else you can realisticly expect but for the game to take some time.
Your argument is like a two legged dog with an eating disorder...weak and unbalanced.
Seriously though, massively good move for Flying Labs. Leaving avatar combat out of PotBS would be like leaving the magic system out of a fantasy MMO until the first expansion. I might actually play this game now.

Beta is definately up and running. I was not happy to hear the release date would be June of 2007. However, I'm glad they decided to add in that many more features before going live. Nothing on the horizon looks all that good, so I will continue to wait for PotBS.
go back to your cave troll.... They aren't pushing back the release or anything like that. They have been up front and honest about the entire development process. Hardly a week goes by without a new dev log. If you registered on the potbs forums rather than troll here you'd see that the devs are very approachable and actually answer questions. Read the interview.
They could release the game tomorrow. But they'd rather risk it and released a finish product. Frankly from the screens and trailers I've seen this game will be well worth waiting for. As far as pirates of the caribbean I'd like to see your source concerning it's release date. Cause if that game is playable by next summer then I'm a purple assed baboon.
It is a good move to implament avatar combat for release, and hopefully 90% of all the avatar combat takes place in boarding actions after some sea battles, or youll end up with all the idiots "dueling"/fighting in ports and ruin the basic imput of the game. Think of this game like Master and Commander: Far side of the world. The story mainly takes place about the life at sea and the epic sea battles that takes place in it, being that it will most likely be more polished then avatar infact almost generally stated by the devs on many occasions that it is the most polished system in the game. But it comming out 07 (I think i dont know, but around the time of PotC 3, and the mmo) It will get alot of pirate hype, on Disney comming out with PotC Online there is not much to worry about. PotBS is a very polished game in its self, and being it has more of a historical feeling to it and roll, it will get alot of the adults rather than the voodoo ooo ahh magic stuff that attracts alot more of the little kids and the kids who are largely influenced by movies. This game will be great even w/o Avatar combat, adding it it for release just makes it that much better
Yeah, Its not a bad idea to release at the same time as PotC at all. Flying Labsk know that they'll crush PotC head on, and thats exactly what they have in mind.
PotBS has always had a very mature community, and I think that a release along side the PotC game will really amplify that. The kids will head towards PotC and the mature players will head towards PotBS. I am very excited.
Thats the great thing about PotBS. Every MMORPG I have followed has promised many things at launch, and then regressed and decided not to include this or that. Flying Labs on the other hand, has promised only a little at the start of its delvelopment, and has added more and more onto their list as they approach launch. They have always kept the public well informed about whats going on so well, those who care to follow the development can really sympathize with the developers and understand the decisions they have made. I think that is very important for a mmorpg- Creating sympathy for the development team. If the players like the development team, then they will like the decisions that they make.
I was (and still am) looking forward to the release of this game. The only problems are there are other games I'm looking at that release before or around the same time. Unless those other titles all fall short it's unlikely I would purchase it right off because I only play one, sometimes two, mmos at a time. Unless the game is huge my mmo budget will already be dispersed.

I totally agree. It's my first experience, to see the developers taking so much of their time, to answer our questions and making devlogs is a great way to get closere to the comunity. In some other games u'll never see any admins or hear from the developers. So this is a fantastic change.
Why does everybody have to have avatar combat at the very beginning. Isnt it supossed to be about ship battles mostly. And I agree waiting longer for a better game is better than waiting a short time for a crappy game. Pacience is a virtue, learn it.

How stupid is that? I think it's a 4 on the Stupid Meter.
We could release the game tomorrow, and you'd be posting a thread 10 minutes later complaining, saying "omg I can't believe FLS is making us pay to beta test their buggy game!"
Or we can release it in June, and... well, let's be honest. Even in June, you'll find something to post a thread about 10 minutes later, complaining.

I didnt know they decided to put in avatar combat. I had followed this game for a while but when the devs announced no avatar combat i put it on hte ignore pile.
No avatar combat gave me Earth and Beyond Flashbacks.....

Now we know it. So hopefully no more complaining. Just enjoy the beta (if ur one of the lucky ones) or see the screens/movies of the game.

You're kidding, right? I waited like a fool for over a year beginning in late 2004 for the "planned release" in what, summer or winter 2005, only to see that date come and go without a word and then eventually hear them switch to winter 2006, and now to summer of 2007. I remember at the time that I wasn't even the worst, a number of people had been teased along a lot longer than I had.
The fanboys will say that they "never officially released a date", but they sure as heck never did anything to make it clear that the dates mmorpg.com was posting weren't anywhere close to correct. The development team weren't so clueless as to not know what people were being led to believe....all it would have taken is 1 e-mail from them to correct it.
And that's not even getting into the whole handling of the beta mess.
There doesn't seem to have been much about the whole development project that is upfront, honest, or professional. If you doubt me, just take a look at how WoW went through this whole phase, or how Vanguard/Warhammer are handling it now. There's an entirely different feel to it (and it's simply not due to those being better financed).
Perhaps this is a little harsh, but I don't think it's unture. And, since I feel like I've been yanked around for so long, after giving them the benifit of the doubt for so long, I feel entitled to be annoyed. I even had to register an account after all this time just so I could rant....
Sure I'm kinda annoyed by the delay, but I can't say im surprised.
There's always a bunch of BS delays when it comes to these games. But at least they are *doing* something in the time they've added. What really grinds my gears is when a game gets pushed back so they can "finish the game properly" or any of that nonsense. Strictly in a business sense, your work speaks for itself. If you're working on the same features for months and can't get them completed on time, theres a problem.
In this case though, they are adding a MAJOR feature, that most of us thought wouldnt be in until some months after release. I dont know if they delayed it so they could add avatar combat, or if it was going to be delayed anyway and they decided to use the time wisely, but either way kudos to them.
Im mad that I have to wait, but when it comes out, there'll be more about the game to keep me interested, and it will have a better chance to pull me away from Vanguard, or LOTRO, or whatever game im playing at the time, which may have been released earlier, but less complete and with less features.
There is also the problem that you face when you chase the "absolute" and you are running out of time: competition can easily built up, or your ideas might not be revolutionary anymore. I would prefer it 1000 times if they had published it somewhere in the winter but before xmas and then advertise this and develop this avatars pvp than yet another delay.
a delay can only mean good things. There taking the time to get avitar combat right, the game will be polished even more when it does release and that means more time for open BETA . Gotta love that. I wish more companies took the time they needed rather than rushing something out. (DDO, MxO, ect)
I'd rather see the release delayed than an upolished game. We keep seeing too much of that nonsense already.
I'll just play Chronicles of Spellborn until PotBS comes out, no biggie.

I don't mind waiting. Avatar combat being added, thats a good thing. Without it, to me, it's just not pirates. It's not all about ship combat. They're just making sure to put the 'swashbuckling' in swashbucklers before release.
But maybe you guys are right, they should rush it out like DnL, get shitty as hell reviews, blame people for making up 'hate' lies about it, then finally offer free months of play to make up for what was originally their mistake. Yeah, that sounds much better, put the game out now!! :P
