So MMORPG, we never get to hear you opinion of the game huh?

Sure its kinda pointless to write a review of a game that utterly failed, but I would like to know what your testers thought.

I think thats the reason I still bother to check this forum, even after DnL's death (lets face it, its dead Jim).

Woulda been nice to see a scathing review from my favorite MMO site.

Here's the only review you'll ever need for this game:

Ummmm.......shambles would be a good word.

    Player base is near dead.

Combat is so pathetic in PVE now that I use one special and thats it.

PVP is pathetic to me. You stand no chance against higher lvl players as damage is like 95% based on lvl differences and not on ac or skills. 3 or more lvls higher and people can hit you for 500+ damage using a base attack.

Still no decent communication from the devs. Patches seem to be non-existant, I think there has been one in past month, and some of the things supposed to be implemented with that patch do not work.

Maybe 75% of the game is currently broken. Quests still do not work overall.

But you can currently one hit kill any mob up to lvl 14 as a lvl 1 player. Thereby allwoing you to gain about 14 lvls in about an hour.

    ---------

In other words, stay far far away from this game!

I think this post raises a good point. If a company which reviews MMOs can't call a dud a dud, then what value are any of their reviews? They shouldn't be afraid to review a bad game and call it what it is.

I'm a consumer and I don't throw my money away. Most products above a certain cost I research a bit first to make sure I'm getting value for my money. That definitely applies to computer games and MMOs and it's one of the reasons I visit mmorpg.com.

One good thing about this site though - at least the player reviews and ratings are there. I hadn't bothered to check D&L's rating before - but notice that they're at the very bottom of the pile. At least this feature of the site works.

I tend to agree. MMORPG.COM should have come out with a review after release like they promised to. They should have been backing up everything we've been telling people about how bad this game is. They should have removed DnL from the site a long time ago. But they haven't. Makes ya wonder.

I would like to see that review if it ever came out!

But someone from the mmorpg.com staff would have to go through the motions of getting a refund in order to get the "true" feel of DnL and their lack of customer support.

Played Wow, D and L, AOC, GW, Eve, Rift and many more insignificant games.

Makes me wonder also just where is the link between Deceit and Lie, Crooked and Borked or Attention Deficet and MMORPG.COM.

Something is a bit out of kilter here and they sure seem to have taken a total hands off approach to this POS. As a wise man said "follow the money trail" well I am beginning to wonder a bit as to where that trail leads in this case.

Hehe, Gnomad, you're just trying to make trouble where there is no need to.  MMORPG.com's review of DnL is their silence about it.

Actually, the last official word--from a MMORPG.com staff writer named Dan who posted in these forums about a month ago--was that a DnL review was actually in the works.   My best guess is that the reviewer just came forward and said something like this to their boss, "DnL is crapware.  And after struggling with just getting it to work for days, and endless crashing, I refuse to dignify it with any review."

  • tepthtanistepthtanis Member Posts: 545

Yes, I would have to agree. The guy reviewing the game was probably using so much swearing in his article that there was nothing left of it after the editing.  Mmorpg.com decided not to make a second attempt and used the silent treatment to get their point across.

I imagine that those people meant to review games don't announce themselves to the Game producers. In the case of DnL the reviewer must have been steaming mad by the end of his first day.

hard to find 10k synonyms for crap I reckon. On the serious side, why should the site bother reviewing it? After all it's not a secret what a POS it is, waste of good bandwith and resources to bother with a review in my opinion..

    I miss DAoC

Yes, another good point. Perhaps they simply looked at the game, laughed and said this POS isn't going to last 4 months, why bother giving it a review.

Makes me feel like a royal dumbass for ever trying that pile of donkey crap!

While I wouldn't go so far as to be suspicious about links between mmorpg.com and D&L, there's absolutely no reason for mmorpg.com not to publish a review.

Following the logic that everyone knows that it sucks so there's no point writing a review to that effect, mmorp.com wouldn't need to review any game.

Remaining silent on bad games undermines the integrity of their reviews.

I would just really be interested to hear (read) what the guys here would have to say on the game, it would be very interesting I think. Then again, if they went and gave it a 4 or 5 somehow, I'd lose a lot of faith in the MMORPG staff, as the game really is a 1.2-2.0 out of ten.
  • jimmyman99jimmyman99 Member UncommonPosts: 3,221
In order to write a review, im guessing someone has to play the game in question for a while, a month or two. But, since there are problems with login, gameplay, crashes, that 2 months may have to be stretched to 3 or maybe even 4. I mean, you cant realy write a review if you cant play the game long enough, right?

I feel deeply sorry for anyone who HAS to play games like this for reviewing purposes.

A review of Dark and Light is still in the works. It is currently in the last editing stage before being publicized. It is obviously quite difficult to make a review of a game that is being ranked this low by our site's visitors - we need to keep a professional distance to the game, while looking at the facts.

I look forward to your reactions to the review (no I am not the reviewer, obviously, hehe). Keep checking the news.

Inferno, you are on the staff? Shouldn't your name be in red or something?

Anyway, good to hear. i anxiously await the review.

I was told that it might take longer than next week. However, at least now you know that a review is really in the works and will be published sooner or later. I hope it will be before DnL goes belly up *chuckles*

Oh and no, us writers don't have red names, unfortunately. Does any staff have red names?

Hehe I'd wondered. I imagine a fair portion of the low rankings it's been given by players is due to dashed expectations and the appalling way the devs have treated their fanbase.

I'm keen to see how it rates in a truly impartial review of just the game itself.

But you have to go on what they promised as well. How could it be impartial if you don't go by what was promised ingame at a premium price. It's like someone promises you a Diablo and you recieve a Yugo. Yeah it would disinclude all the ravings of a disillusioned fan base. But it would still have to be reviewed on what was offered and not on broken content alone.

They did send someone to review it. They're hoping with proper medication and extensive therapy he will be able to turn on his computer again and send in a review.

You know, I think a eulogy would actually be more appropriate than a review.  They could use the words "potential" and "promised" a lot.

A complete and balanced review of this game necessarily has to address the history and acknowledge that the game today is so much less than what was originally promised. But I think a fair assessment of the game needs to put that aside and simply judge the game for what is. If a game ends up being even better than what developers were promising, it certainly wouldn't earn bonus points in a review. By the same token whatever rating mmorpg.com give it has to be against the same benchmark that all other games are reviewed, rather than the many broken promises of D&L's developers.

I agree with you to a point but you're drawing the line to tightly. If I came out with a new video game tomorrow and called it "pitchforked" Where you get to run around all day and pitchfork developers as in the adds And you find out when you get into the game that all you get to do all day is clean up cow chips. Wouldn't that generate negitive reviews. I mean you were expecting to pitchfork developers as advertised right!!!

    Help us out here Inferno...

That the game is missing some of the advertised features certainly will influence the score of the review. However, DnL advertised to be the largest MMORPG you've ever seen... and that is undeniably what they delivered. However, the fun factor of that "MMORPG" remains to be seen. With the lack of players, I guess it's not much fun to play DnL and this will most likely not improve, because if anything, the game is losing players rapidly. I can't tell you what the review will look like, but I am confident that the reviewer will also consider the missing features. Just be patient
