I think Eve-online has the best pvp. Pirates should be in every players should be able to be a pirate in every game. In eve-online you can kill a ship and steal the cargo. But there is ways of avoiding them. What do you guys think.
Eve online is crap. A beta product they have the nerve to charge money for.
The economy and gameplay have so many holes that the playerbase has deteriorated into a scam/exploit fest. Piracy could have been interesting, but it needs to be balanced against a solid underlying game.

Hard to describe in just a few words. But I'll give a few examples.
Corporation theft - Access to the the accounts in a corporation are simply on or off. Hangars (items) can be off, view only, or full access. In order for corp members to work toegether effectively, you will eventually need to give people access. But unfortunately, a single unscrupulous member can erase the entire assets of a corp in seconds, and by transfering the items to an alternate account, also erase any chance to track who did it.
Groups of real-life friends can trust each other enough to form effective corporations, but independents who come into the game are trivially easy marks for corp theft. Most small corporations eventually end up in the pocket of a single player willing to rip off their former friends. There are also a large number of established players who circulate alternate characters for the sole purpose of wiping out new corporations who don't know any better than to trust.
Login camping - Like most combat games, the general idea in Eve is to arrange it so engagements take place when your side can focus the greatest amount of firepower. However, the best trick is not so much to out-manuever opponents in the game, but to camp a bottleneck location (such as a stargate) with a large number of logged-out ships. Once you've gotten an enemy to engage, (assuming the numbers are in your favor) all those ships can log in and engage immediately. At full strength, and at a tremendous advantage.
Market scams - It might seem like a stupid mistake to buy a $1 item for $100 million, and it is. But the market interface is very clumsy on both ends, (buying and selling) and you're usually only a button press away from making a irreversable mistake that can cost you weeks or months worth of income. Because of this the market is always flooded with ridiculous pricing. Not to try and fool you, just in the hopes that you'll press the wrong button just once. Because sooner or later, most people will. There are quite a few players whose sole income comes via this method.
These are just a few representative examples. There are a slew of similar types of combat, trade, and market tricks that have become fundamental to playing the game, though outside the intended mechanics.
One result of it is that there's little point to attempting to play the game honestly. If you're not willing to step outside the game mechanics and exploit the design flaws, you're simply going to be fodder for those who do. The richest players are the liars, the back-stabbers, the cheaters, because that's the only approach that the game really rewards.
Another result is that the game is extremely newbie unfriendly. Many of the scammers regularly create and re-create alternate characters to infiltrate and steal, or simply to spy. Since these alternates are so prevalent, and since there isn't any way to distinguish them from new players, most established corporations maintain a simple closed-door policy to newbs. And many maintain a simpler kill-on-sight for new players that trespass. And that's not even counting the mob of scammers waiting to pounce on anyone new and unfamiliar with the slew of rip-off tactics that everyone else already knows.
And lastly, since the game does eventually drive away most gamers with any ethics, the player base that remains is a highly refined group of exploiters. They are far ahead of the beleaguered game developers, who have yet to implement even the basic feature set promised for the games release nearly a year ago, and who aren't even attempting to address the exploit flaws. (other than a few half-hearted warnings)
Why do ppl bash games when they stopped playing them ages ago??
Example: There's 7 different hangars every corp has. YOu can give players access to hangars but lock one where you place all the blueprints for example. No way youc an be robbed other then being robbed by your closest friend you gave access.
If you fall for the Corporation theft then that's too bad. Corp theft will teach you to do a background check on your potential employees before you let them in. It's never been considered an exploit either. If you lost all your assets or hangar items due to an untrustworthy employee then u learn next time with how you handle your hiring and firing. Corp theft has happened to virtually every single large corp and they used that experience to grow and change the way they handle situations. Exploit, it is not. Besides, if you have someone steal from your corp, then you pretty much are at fault, as the only way they can steal is if you give them a high enough security clearence to do so. If you are thinking that any employee can steal..then you are about 5 months behind in EVE and need to look at it now. As this issue has been looked at a very long time ago
The camping issue with people logging out has been corrected during the Castor patch. If you see a logged out ship floating in space you can claim it now and leave the potential pirate without a ship next time he logs on. So that trick wont work anymore. If you log out, your ship will remain "unoccupied for 1 minute" then the ship disappears.
Market Scams: There's market scams in real life. Happens all the time, hell, even Martha Stewart is in court because of it. EVE models that. If you get suckered into buying a Frigate for 3 million isks, then that's your own fault. Take the time to read the description first. That's not conisdered an exploit and will never be considered an exploit.
If you like a "carebear" game then dont buy it. As the original poster mentioned, it is the best PvP mmorpg out there: plain and simple. If you hate PvP then you'll hate EVE. If you hate having the possibility of being ripped off, cheated, or wrong, then dont buy the game (and don't ever buy anything in a country that isnt run by Wal*marts because virtuallyt every other country is run off of a haggle policy....and sometimes you get burnt. I buy guns all the time in gunshops....if you dont know your guns, they'll rip you off in a heartbeat. Heck, BestBuy does it everyday to people buying their computers. When someone offeres you an item on EVE, look at it, read the description. If you get ripped off, then it's pretty much your fault.
Also, I admit, it is hard as a newbie to learn the game, however everysingle player was once a noob and we're doing just fine. Also, there are many people willing to help you learn and there is a very in-depth instructional site on the main online site.
Those tricks you mentioned aren't exploits. There methods other players use to get your isk. Exploits and cheats are manipulating a system not designed or promoted by the DEVELOPERs to gain something in your favor. The market scams, corp thefts, piracy, and ore thiefs are part of the game and are allowed by the Developers and is not considered to be exploits.
Also, for the person saying there are so many bugs in the game, it feels like beta, then I suggest you to look at the game again because the game had pretty much been tight since July.

lol, i mentioned that on my fourth paragraph down

Every game has its clueless fanbois, and I guess Eve is no exception. It does look pretty, and I do recommend it if you're simple enough to be satisfied with that.
Any corp that doesn't have a group of RL friends at its center eventually gets hit by corp theft. And even many of those do. It's just too easy and too consequence-less.
Even some of the corps established by beta players who all knew eachother have had their entire assets erased by corp theft.
And as for new players who only met eachother online, this end is essentially guaranteed. Having 7 hangars doesn't mean a damn thing; the ability of a corp to be effective requires that assets be shared. It's trivially simple for a scammer to get far enough into a corp of new players far enough to erase it. Many of them eventually retire from corp trashing out of simple boredom because it's so easy.
Come back in a few months when you've actually scratched beneath the surface of the game Thoemse. Assuming you're not one of the scammers yourself, you'll be singing a different tune.

Calling someone a fanboi just tells us you have no idea what you're talking about. You mentioned exploits. I, in return, countered your arguement as to why they are *not* considered exploits. Coming around and calling someone a fanboi in return serves no purpose but to create flaming and trolling.
Secondly, no one defended the game based on the graphics in this thread except for the four liner "warp effect looks cool". So, that's a little odd.
Thirdly, the thread mentioned about PvP, not about how you got pissed off about EVE cause you didnt like it.
Any corp that doesn't have a group of RL friends at its center eventually gets hit by corp theft. And even many of those do. It's just too easy and too consequence-less.
Again, this tells us how long ago you played this game. There are various security levels and each level grants the employee a little more "freedom" with hangar items, etc. The first 3 to 4 levels will not even let the employee look in the hangar or treasury much less take from it.
Even some of the corps established by beta players who all knew eachother have had their entire assets erased by corp theft.
Yup, if you give them the security clearence to do so. Thats not an exploit, BTW

It's seems like you got ripped off in the game. If so, then you need to deal with it. The topic says "eve-online = best pvp" Your ranting about how some guy stole your money proves that EVE has a great PvP. This game is not Legend of Zelda....if you're not careful, people can scam you...just like real life

I've been playing this game since the beginning. I am not a fanboi, nor a whiner. I've been upset about the game just the same as I have been happy about it. However, your arguments have nothing to do with exploits and it has nothing to do with the Thread topic
People who have to create conspiracy and hate threads to further a cause lacks in intellectual comprehension of diversity.
The title was "eve-online = best pvp." I strongly disagree that such a playground for cheating could be considered good pvp, much less 'best' pvp. Combat in Eve has always been far more a matter of effective use of alt spys, smart logouts, and other out-of-game exploit tactics (such as the login camping) than in-game design. If you've been around since beta, then you're well aware of that, and you're just spouting bs.
Or maybe you aren't aware of what happens to your ship when you immediately log back in as an alt. Or how meaningless the delay is anyway since the bait ships can easily protect the log-outs even if they don't relog. Or how this exploit continues to be a headache for honest players, and continues to be just another of many topics on the boards that's ignored by CCP. "Fixed in Castor" is complete bs, as I'm pretty sure you're well aware.
My subsequent expansion was in response to the question: "Tell us about the scam/exploit fest" Rather than continue to pursue subjects which I agree have nothing to do with the original post, I'll drop it. Other than to say that just because CCP took the lazy route by deciding to write off any given rip-off as "not an exploit" doesn't make the game any less of a scam-fest. And to you, as an Eve player who justifies the extent of the rip-offs tactics with "that's your own fault", "If you like a 'carebear' game" don't buy it", and "That's not considered an exploit" I'd say you're a fairly true representative of the remaining player population. Have fun with it.

I've been around since beta and yes I do know about alt spies as I use one myself. I dont considered that "cheating" or "exploiting" As I mentioned in my previous posts, they have changed the logouts.

I'm sorry but I disagree with you. Just because some people use the tactic of logging in and then logging in as an alt, you can't say the game blows because of that. A good PvP player wont do that and if they do, it's common knowledge, its a coward's way out and 9 times out of 10, there names are advertised as cowards. The Castor patch has solved a lot of problems, however, how in the world can you solve the problem of logging out and then logging in as another player? If you have answers, Im pretty sure CCP would like to know as the only way I can think of solving that problem is to prohibit alts to log in after a previous logout, and you'll end up pissing more people off than appeasing, so that wouldnt work.

I will have fun with it. I've got nothing against people who don't like the game, but dont say it's exploitative or cheating as it's not. If you want to say it's a "scamfest" then so be it. I never been scammed nor do I scam people. I like the way CCP handles it. Like I said earlier, the game market is modeled after real life markets (and capitalism). Scams happen all the time in RL and it will in EVE
If thats not your cup of tea then its not your cup of tea.

Fact is you just cAN'T cheat in PvP in eve online. I fought battles against m0o in last weeks and they are known as "exploiters". They gave us a bad kicking at the beginning but we managed to defeat them. The important thing is though: They didn't cheat. Ppl tend to shout "exploiters" when they get owned. Only because you suck your enemy is no cheater.
I'm no fanboy at all and thinking of leaving eve for Ryzom or Lineage 2 since i start to get bored with it but one thing i really hate. Ppl starting to bash a game they have no clue of. Go bash somewhere else.
This is a serious forum where people come to check out news about MMORPGs.
We don't need threads like this here.
I personally hate SWG like you seem to hate eve online but i don't start threads like: Don't buy SWG it sucks!!!.
If you don't like eve then this is ok but talkign about cheating is a whole different thing.
I didn't start this thread, I responded to it. And not every response has to be positive to be acceptable, otherwise what's the point?
I played Eve from July until the beginning of Febuary, when my patience waiting on CCPs lack of follow-through finally gave out. I quit with well over a billion in personal assets, earned by experimenting with nearly every aspect of the game. Given your statement "You just can't cheat in PvP in eve online" I'm certain that I'm much more familiar with the game than you are, since I know a variety of ways. At any rate I'm quite qualified to express an opinion.
And since my opinion of Eve is strongly negative, that's the way it's comes out. Deal with it.
Anyway to test out eve online? I dont like to buy games unless I test them first.

I'd say Eve is probably the most advanced, least "simple", and most freeform MMORPGs around, which is what makes it such great fun for me. This freedom also makes various market scams possible, just like real life doesn't always protect you. Personally I've never fallen for a scam since June '03, all it takes is a tiny bit of attention before buying/selling things. Just like it takes a tiny bit of effort to check the map before heading into lawless space, to avoid getting ganked by pirates. But it's really not that hard.
Obviously even people bashing it in this thread found it tolerable enough if they played it from June to February - you don't play games that stink for eight months unless you're seriously into S&M! Getting fed up with a game is totally different thing though, something that happens with all games at one point or another. Obviously there are some aspects that could be improved about Eve (like every other game), and I don't know if I would call it the "best" PvP game, since this aspect has some potential for abuse.
I'm playing the game since Beta 4 and you wont tell me anything about PvP in this game. The only exploit in PvP was hiding behind the grid and the devs fixed that with the last patch.
I joined a guild in Eve, and harvested/transported huge quantities of raw materials to them. Later, they removed me from the guild and lied to me so that they can ambush me. I was very confused. An ex-guildie told me (in tell) that the guild said that I stole millions of credits from them, so they guild members are to shoot me down in sight.
I did not steal from that guild. Maybe someone did, or maybe the officers just want me out of the guild (without compensating me back for all that I have done for the guild... The guild havent given me a ship yet, aside from the ship I bought b4 I joined that guild).
I felt like I was exploited and scammed, so I left the game.

A. You mentioned "guild" a lot. That kinda tells me you hardly played the game as the word "guild" isn't mentioned in EVE. It's a Corporation or a Corp
B. If they say you stole money and they're hunting you down, then that sucks. However, it is not an exploit. You all seriously need to read the def. of that word.
Also, if they say there going to hunt you down so be it, there's 2,335 systems in EVE with about 3-45 planets and moons and 1-25 asteroid belts not considering 1-10 stations to conceal yourself in. They'll never find you.
Mathematically speaking if you would go from one end of the solar system to the other end without warp drive and do that from one end of the stellar map to the other end, it will take you 88 literal years to do that. So, I think you'll be hard to find in terms of getting away from that corp
C. If a Corp says "if you join us we'll give you a ship" and you join them and they never give you a ship then guess what? You can leave anytime you want to a join another corp. That is not a scam. A scam is a fraudulent business scheme; a swindle. You never lost any money to join them...just leave you didnt loose anything to begin with.
If you left because of these reasons, then so be it....but you'll have a hard pressed time getting along in any online game if you let little things like that get to ya..no matter the name of the game

A. I prefer saying guild, as guild is a more generic term than corporation.
B1. I felt scammed/exploited as I harvested hundreds of thousand of raw materials for the corp, and in return, I got a bad name and was being hunted down.
B2. It is extremely hard to get out of a system if the ppl there are hunting u. It is especially harder if u have to bring out your multiple ships. Ships are expensive too.
C. Being in a guild/corp is a give and receive thing. I harvested/transported raw materials for the guild, and I (and everyone in that corp) expected a better ship in return. I was not getting any money from the raw materials I harvested and transported to the corp.
I always try to place nice. I seem to do well in mmorpgs where GMs impose playing nice as one of the requirement from every player. I cant stand games that have rampant scamming.
Seems like your intention of your post is to flame me, maybe being a bit more open minded can make you a better person.
The player base of Eve Online is saturated by the sort of people who think it's clever to lie and rip-off new subscribers, or anyone they can for that matter. Just that new subscribers are easier.
While it's true that a thorough understanding of the game can help you to sidestep most of the scams and griefing, many new players never get that far. And face bratty ridicule that they 'deserve it because they're stupid' for falling for the tricks that an experienced Eve player would have avoided.
The community has grown pretty jaded and ugly. You can see in En1Gmas post a complete disregard for a scammed player, stemming from the sense that anything the game mechanics would allow must be ethically acceptable. That's fairly representative. Since the game mechanics were intentionally designed for rip-offs to thrive, the player base tends to burn off anyone with a conscience. What remains behind is unpleasant.
The post also displays an interesting deficit I occasionally see in players who play MMORPGs (not just limited to Eve) most of their waking hours; no sense of the value of time. ammappala was most certainly swindled if he never recieved any of the promised compensation in exchange for investing significant time on the corporations behalf, yet this doesn't register for En1Gma since no money was stolen. That's just the kind of thing you get or you don't.
There would really be no point to joining Eve at this stage in its decline. Even if you are the sort of person who gets off on a scam-fest, it's a game of limited opportunity, and the slots are already filled. All that's really there for someone new is the painful tedium of mining or agent running, until a misstep allows one of the established scammers to pocket all your effort.

Anyways, enough ranting from me, I though this thread describes a bit about the things I enjoy about the game: http://www.mmorpg.com/discussion.cfm/loadforum/430/loadthread/9337/setstart/1/loadclass/141
I'm playing the game since Beta 4 and you wont tell me anything about PvP in this game.
The only exploit in PvP was hiding behind the grid and the devs fixed that with the last patch.
It's better be hated for who you are, than loved for who you aren't.

Yours is a familiar enough story, amappala.
