DAoC: My 2 cents

DAoC was the first (and only) MMORPG I ever played. By the time I got my pally to lvl 20, I was bored of the leveling treadmill. Repetetive creature killing, no action on the battlefields and not having a suitable outlet to easily sell my wares were the biggest minuses. Which is why I bailed after the 30-day free trial ran out. However, the people were friendly, exploring was cool, and grouping was occasionally exciting. I'm waiting for WoW to hit the scene.

I am sooo weak in the will power department. I went crawling back to DAOC just the other day. I couldn't help myself. I was going nuts. It'll have to do until WoW is out!

Welcome to MMORPG's. All of them without exception have "treadmill" DAoC's is shorter than most on the market, so if couldn't hold your attention, you really should consider another game genre.

MMORPG's are hobbies, they are not "games" if you want to play "games" I understand PS2, and XBox have a very nice collection. You might also consider a FPS or RTS. There are numerous good ones for sell cheap at your local software store.

WoW will be very much like DAoC, only it may even take longer to play. Most people expect a MMORPG to keep them busy trying to get to max level for years. WoW will be just eveything else.

Thats true, but reasonings might not cancel out a whole genre. I have played far too many MMORPG's and the only thing I don't like about DAoC is the skill system, but I like a skill system such as the one in AC1, I don't like many other thigns in AC1 though.

I am playing DAoC again now after a break from it, and I like it, and the skills matter alot more higher up in the levels, or when playing a casting class.

In short, just because a person doesn't like one aspect of a game, doesn't close the genre to them, a true MMORPG'er will probably see holes in every game, due to their experience of the games, but they can also see potential. image

No offense but your expectations of the game seem a little dumb.

Of course your going to be on a lvl treadmill.  Nearly all mmorpgs require you to lvl to a certain extent at least.

Your going to switch to a game which will also require you to get on the treadmill. Hope you got over hating it.

There are all kinds of places to sell your loot in this game. What are you talking about?

If you only went to lvl 20, you don't know anything about this game because it doesn't really start until you rvr which at best, you {might} have seen the battlegrounds which are deserted anyway.

Bah, all I was saying is that the repetetive monster-killing was starting to get to me by level 20. That's all. I'm not saying I don't enjoy the game, I enjoy it. I was merely putting forth my two cents, my opinion. I experienced RvR for the first time just a few days ago and I loved it. But trying to get to level 21 is still a drag. So maybe I'm not as experienced as many of you are, so maybe I just learned what "mez" means yesterday - I still have an opinion, dagnabbit.

So, uhh... don't do the repetivite monster killing. Quest a bit. You're past the level of kill-tasks (the regular ones) already, so can't do them... but if you get a guild, and group a lot, monster-killing doesn't need to be repetivite. Or rather, it doesn't need to seem that way... it always WILL be repetitive, no matter what you do, but it doesn't have to be a problem.

You may also want to pick a different class. Paladins are really a very repetitive class, if you're playing them right... twist, attack, twist, attack, etc. Gets boring, and sometimes painful, pretty quickly. Necromancers are a good starting class - they're incredibly easy, level fast (when you get a level 50 you get access to the /level command, and can start new characters at level 20), make lots of cash... they're no less repetitive (might be more so), but you'll progress faster.

Hey I understand what your saying. It gets to me too. Like the last guy said pick a class that has a little more variety.  Some people might laugh at me for this but the most fun I ever had in PvE was with my Hunter.  You get stealth, a pet, a bow, self buffs and a Spear.  There is about 50 different ways to kill something in PvE as a Hunter and it rarely became boring to me.  When i got tired of repetative hunting, i stealthed, went to the nearest town, and sent my dog in to follow around some of the ladies for laughs.

The downside is in PvP, it can be hard to get a group if your not in a big guild or have lots of pals. No one wants you to use the pet and it's almost impossible  to stealth with it unless you can get creative.  Also, the spears hit VERY slow and your armor will suck so you can't melee well.

Another thing you can do is go into dungeons. They are more fun than regular pve if you can get a group going. You also can lvl faster that way.

But like I said before, every game will have the tread mill regardless.
