I would say this is a decent re-review written by an obvious fan. As I wrote in my review of the game blizzard has made a decent entry level mmo, but with too much focus on pve and raiding. For some people this is great and a satisfying experience. For others, its merely something to do until the new games start coming out. Though with what I have read of the expansion it would seem that blizzard has realized that raiding gets to be more of a chore than entertainment. How it all pans out, well, we'll see in a couple months.
The sheer repetition of raids takes away the value of the game. Also, faction grinding to gain better items is again very repetitive. It’s funny; the leveling system in WoW seems very player friendly. The real grind comes at level sixty when you want to get your epic gear. Also, the PvP rewards I think the value in the end game is much lower than the experience of leveling up a character.
so, how can you write all that, and then give it a 7? i mean, you are rating the end game, people are already level 60. ratings should not be an average of 1-60 + endgame, it is only endgame we are looking here. well, EQ2 also has a 7 for value. does it mean that we can also say for EQ2 value that is near non-existant?
a 4 would have been much more acurate.
same happens with fun. 8? how can the end game of wow be as fun as Guild Wars or Ryzom? come on, Anarchy Online, one of the best MMORPGs made, has an 8 on fun, same as WoW end-game . playing WoW endgame is as fun as playing DAoC and 2 points more fun than EQ2.
but i know where lies the problem, on the RP section we have this.

so, for you 7 is a low score . yet, on many other game's reviews, when your mates say a game has a good RP, they give it a 7.
but there is more. you dont have much RP experience, so you give it a 7. why? is a 7 the minimum? in fact, it seems that 7 is such a low score... wow should get much more...
and the best part. so, at level 60, the RP almost goes away. how can that score a 7 then? you know Ryzom gets a 6? if 7 is almost nonexistant RP, what is happening on Ryzom?
i think that they should have a much more tight rating system. Garret Fuller thinks WoW end game RP is poor, so he gives it a 7. Another reviewer thinks that Ryzom RP is ok, and gives it a 6. so, in my world, ok>poor, but 6<7. how can it be?
anyway, i agree with what the reviewr wrote, but all the scores seem to be +3 from what they should be. it seems that the reviewer was afraid to give WoW less than 7 on any category, no matter how poor it is. i wish they were as kind with all the games.
it is quite stupid that WoW endgame as a whole is valued more than Ryzom (the re-review has a 7.8 ), UO, L2 or AA.

yeah, that makes sense. although mods should advertise readers about those changes i think. although maybe the scale is 1-60. that would make even more sense
I dont get it... your comments overall match how I feel but you score way to high if u criticize an aspect of the game then subtract points. What is with the criticizing and still giving 7+? Or at least spell out exactly why u feel it deserves a better score even though you were criticizing it not a bad review overall though.
Well, The reviewer has o bit immature way of grading games, suing 7 as a average or even Bad rating, which to be honest is a real bad trend today, ‘c’mon people, if you think something is bad give it a 4 or 5 (I wouldn’t grade Role-playing on regular servers as good (7) in my life), sometimes as a reviewer you need some balls . But honestly, a good article, explains a end game syndrome quite well, without unnecessarily bashing it.

As you see you've rated things you thought wernt good at a 7 :
QFT. 5 is average. Seems to me these numbers you use make the game look better then it is.
I'm also curious about where it mentions solo players are decked out in decent gear. That's pretty much crap. You raid or you languish. There's a reason WoW has fallen off the top 10 mmo list. And this review only beghins to hint at why that is.

How could you rate it a 8 when you obviously thought it didn't EXIST???
I mean come on guys, if you are going to rate it, REALLY rate it. If it's below average or just our right sucked it has to be below 5 on a scale of 1-10!!!
Blizzard doesn't need every review to be all smiles and cheers. They got enough people paying for it to not care you guys didn't get it top rating.
Stop reviewing games you have no idea what you are doing. Giving parts you KNOW is bad a 7?
Moreover, you fail to mention anything about the problems of PvP & PvE interacting.
8 to customer service based on "Blizzards customer service crew has always seemed like they do not exist to me. When a ticket is put in it usually takes several hours to get a response." think you pretty much shot yourself in the head there.
MMORPG.com lost what little credibility they had left after when posting crap like this review.
Stop being lapdogs and write a real review.
EDIT: Added a poll to see what some of the community feel about the end-game.
As someone said on the first page... Gareth should never do a review again when he considers a 7 an average score. His writeup is perfect and almost spot on (apart from going into detail into how pvp rewards pretty much consume your life if you want to even consider being on par with raiders.)
The fact remains though, WoW's endgame SUCKS! There is very little variety and anything other than raiding, is extremely time consuming. Ever since that Everquest fan took over lead design, WoW has gone down hill. It's funny how they say 15% of the subscribers actually raid.. so why do they keep releasing content for this 15%? It's literally raid raid raid, crap pvp throw the dog a bone patch, raid raid raid.
Back on topic, his scores are seriously off, he even admits himself that doing dungeons is boring and if he had to do a dungeon only 20 times to get himself a full tier 1/2/3 set, he is extremely lucky. How can you rate the fun of something that you admit to being tedious an 8? YOU CAN'T!
There is absolutely no doubt in my mind that 1-59, WoW is without a doubt, the BEST mmorpg ever created but once you hit that 60, it's basically join a guild with 79 other people who in all fairness, don't really care about you or your character progression. If that isn't your cup of tea, you can take the route of pvp or rep grinding which still doesn't give you as good items or armour but takes you a hell of a lot longer than raiding. Ofcourse not raiding, you are forced to spend 4-6 months for blizzard to throw you a bone with a small glimmer of hope which soon fades as you realise they screwed up again.
Burning crusade looks decent though and doing only 25 man instances could be a step in the right direction but unless their pugable, you still are forced to join an elitest guild and I can bet you that these instances will be far too hard for the casual gamer and thus the problems start again.
The best part about WoW was the leveling. But after a few characters even that becomes routine. Wow endgame is just a mindless grind where lots of people are needed. I do not think it's fun to raid a dungeon 5 times / week for a few weeks to get "epic gear" after which Blizzard creates another dungeon that you can raid 5 times / week to get marginally better equipement. Let's not forget consumable-grinding / reputation-grinding / equipement-grinding / ...
Grinding, grinding, grinding...
They should've focussed more on skills & pvp imo. And they should have put a darn cap on the stats of PC's (Stamina, Agility, ... ) because now Epic geared players just squish through entire hordes of players. So they have the advantage EVERYWHERE.
PvP is where it's at, i'm hopefull for the expansion... with the revamp of the PvP honor system, but don't know if i'll return to WoW any time soon...
~ If working was good, the rich wouldn't have left it to the poor ~
Concerning what you heard about their customer service giving loot to a raid that couldn't kill a boss due to lag. They don't even consider this on our server and I haven't heard of that until now. I believe you may have been misinformed on that part or that CSR was being incredibly generous.
Okay, straight up: I'm no power-leveler. There is too much going on on my "RL-Account" and I run a small guild besides. What makes it "worse": I play all 9 classes.
You heard right, I play it all. Mainly, because I'm not too intrested in any form of race, be that to high end gear, a level or anything in that aspect. I'm also a RPer, which means that you might find yourself logging on thinking "Ah, damn, I really wanted to start up questline XYZ"... walk through Stormwind... and bump into someone's RP and get involved. Poof, there goes the XP I could have gotten that evening.
I feel this is the main drwaback on any leveling game, because at the end of the day: Isn't a "grind" in many forms the end of what you do? It's in PvP (even without WoW's rather badly thought-through rewards system) where you fight agin and again and again... it's farming money, items, running the same instances.
The only way to hopp off such a treadmill, is for many people trying to play differently. I always found it enjoyable to have different classes and races to play if another started to bore me for whichever reasons.
Of course, this leads the whole "end game test" off track, pardon me for that. But the best way to not do something boring (and it seems to people who don't like raiding or PvP the end game of WoW IS boring) is to avoid it and do something else. *wink*
The only way to hopp off such a treadmill, is for many people trying to play differently. I always found it enjoyable to have different classes and races to play if another started to bore me for whichever reasons.
Nicely put, I also enjoyed playing different classes and starting new characters, doing different quest lines, ignoring the bad ones etc. However, this is not really what we're discussing when talking about end-game.
Being social and do various things outside the game is something you can do in almost all games (even online version of Tetris: TetriNet) so it doesn't add anything to the game in terms of praise.
However, you might be one who enjoys the storyline of the Warcraft series much more then the general gamer, you might have been lucky or even liked the general population.
What I'm trying to say is; you're bringing up a social/community factor, which by all means is true but not valid when discussing one game's end-game.
I do not agree with the majority of this thread. It seems like the whole spin on this is your complaining about the grind at least 12 or more times. For the pvp grind you can get almost instant ques during that battlegrounds double honor weekend. I myself went from honored to exalted this weekend with AV. And quite simply if you want any gear in the game you have to repeat all the instances its nothing really only 60s have to deal with. At least with the end game instances there are more bosses such as Black Rock Spire having almost literally two parts. Black Rock Depths itself is quite a large instance. I mean what do you expect? Just because your level 60 all your gear is going to drop all at once so you never need to do the instance again? That kinda ruins the whole idea of the gear being wroth anything.
Also you complain about the 40 man raids. I somewhat feel you are not qualifyed to attempt to review them at all basically from your screenshots it looks like you have never done them. The 40man raids are a testament to a guilds power and teamwork and cohesiveness. And off course if all the gear were to drop at once then whats the point. It makes you feel good when you can say you have 4/8 prophecy knowing how hard it can get. The 40 man raids promote teamwork and just plain skill I mean wow is not hard to play but to do some of the encounters you do need to pay attention.
I think the basis for this review was pretty much a bad player who could not get into a raiding guild having to attempt to tarnish World of Warcraft. I' am assuming in order to review something you have to experience it so please don't review a game you haven't finished yet.
And the graphics considering we are comparing World of Wacraft to other games not just in general. First thing that comes to mind is CoV which if we were comparing graphics in general while taking the customization into consideration I belive World of Warcraft makes CoV and the majority of other mmos look like an early version of Crash Bandacoot in comparison.
Not to mention in one of his screenies he says "How do you get a screen without the bars is it tab" with tab being a very important button to get to the next mob and him not knowing what it does. And considering that almost everytime you log in it may say hey press and hold alt z for a cool pic. Just further proves this is just a noob complaing about not being able to get into a raiding guild and getting any good gear.
One reason I quit WoW a year or so ago because of all the instance raid and the long wait to pvp. I was in a big guild that did Core etc on a constance base and let me tell you eventually it just felt like a second job. How can you enjoy a game where you're pretty much force to raid these places 2-3 times a week to even get a chance at any of these gears. The reason for me saying that is most high end guild run on a point for attendents system. So it forces you to go on the raid to even get a chance at the items later, I totally agree with the system. I wouldnt' want for some new guy to join the raid and get the item i been after for a month, however it turned the game into a second job for me. I couldn't enjoy a game if it felt like a job. For mel end game should focus on pvp, because that's the only thing you can do every day and not get bored of it. Lets look at the old school DAOC, anyone who was apart of that would agree with me that game was very entertaining because of that aspect. You still have to go for the good gears, but once you get it you can go right out and show it to the enemy. While in WoW you got to wait an easy 30-1 hr if you're lucky for somepvp action, some wait are even longer.
I think it was a good rewiev, it sums it up pretty well. I would have given much lower ratings overall though, to me an 8 is a good rating and end game content i wow isn't particularly good. But I dont know, maybe the competiton is just as bad? Well I just hope some of the upcoming mmorpg titles will deliver what they promise.

The problems is that they made the gear so all-important in the first place. It's bad for gameplay, especially PVP.

I have to agree. They made gear number one thing to get. Wow is a awesome game from 1 to 59 then the game takes a turn. The pvp is so basic and they seem to lack the ability to do it. Game been over 1.5 years and still the same 3 bg. I am exualted in AB and WSG and revered in AV. Even the rep rewards lack what pve end game instances do. Blizzard seems to care about the end game instances and everything else is 2nd. World pvp was a joke. I dont know anybody that even does it. 4 basic towers to defend and a buff for a reward. Even with low lvl bg 10 to 19 is all about who has the best enchants. Lvl 19 can wear a lvl 60 enchant. The saying is wow is Raid or Quit. I do like the game but I do not raid and therefore have to relie on gear from rank and rep rewards. There is no real compatition for wow as of yet. Mid next year I can see that changing and infact I will leave as well to do the WAR thing.
You mean WarHammer ? i'm looking forward to that ... seeing as it's a pvp base game... not many of those been released since daoc that's worth playing.
That rating is way to high if only for the end-game...the part Blizzard is NOT good at. They were masters of the low and mid game though, about the best ever made IMHO.

I thought this was a good review, but...
I would definately LOWER my overall rating on these specific..
1.) Lag
2.) Customer Service
3.) Community
Don't get me wrong... I still love playing WoW, but frustration does come into play alot at times with this game
"Huntress"
That rating is way to high if only for the end-game...the part Blizzard is NOT good at. They were masters of the low and mid game though, about the best ever made IMHO.
