It has the worst damn customer support EVER. Sure they give you places to search for answers, but one year ago when I played, this game had so many damn bugs it was pathetic.
Now I only had one bug. One tiny little bug. It was the SOUND BUG. Everytime a loud and noisy battle would take place or alot of ships would be in the same area making alot of sound, THE WHOLE DAMN PC WOULD SHUT DOWN and reset itself. TIme and time again. I literally had to go into the computer and shut the sound off in order to play. I followed ALL THE STEPS as was told to do by thier site. Absolutely nothing.
I have a 3.2 pc with 2gigs of ram and a very high end graphics card , well a year ago it was, and yet my system had sound problems in this game. Not EQ2, not DAOC, not WoW, not Lineage 2, not ANY OTHER MMORPG had this problem for me except this game and trying to get some help from the WORST SUPPORT IN MMORPG HISTORY is next to impossible.
Im betting they never even fixed this. I know alot of peeps that quit because of this.
End of Line.

Rubbish ... Eve has one of the better customer supports found out any mmorpg including some of those you have listed .. And I refuse to turn this into a xxx games customer support is the worst...
As for the bug, well my pc is no where near as powerful as yours .. amd 2600, 1 gig of ram, mid range gfx card, on board sound and i have never had that problem and neither has the wife on her pc.. so rather then blaming the eve client maybe you should look closer to home.
I do recall a small problem with some mobos and dual core processers not being set correctly cauing a problem like this, so maybe you should try looking down that path before you blame something else from crashing and rebooting your pc.

PC game companies spend a lot of money on compatibility testing for all the myriad platforms and combinations of components out there. Sometimes it is the majority of the development budget.
Consoles, or at least older consoles, don't have this problem because all of the hardware is a "known quantity" and most of the budget goes to either content or marketting.
It could easilly have something to do with your windows services settings instead of hardware. Part of being a PC user is knowing-your-own-system, or simply accepting incompatibilities.
I haven't decided if I will upgrade to Vista if it is required to play EVE online a year from now. I rather doubt I will be in the first wave of anything. It also depends on how attached I am to other player groups and where I am in my career. I could spend a lot more money on golf (lol) or some other hobby (although I probably wouldn't), or I could probably find myself spending a whooooole lot of money trying to make other people happy.
Leaving cause of a sound bug, LMAO, LOL!!!!!!!!!!!!! OMG havent laughed that har din so long.
Heres what you do - Leave ALL games you play, sell your computer, and never ever post another thread on a forum, why, CAUSE YOUR A IDIOT.
I am glad your leaving, your not even worth my time to post this, but SO LONG IDIOT.
It's got to be your hardware, as i nor anyone i know that plays EVE has this problem. If it was the EVE Client then it would be happening to everyone that has a high-end PC.
Perhaps you should have tried updating your sound card drivers, or even replaced your sound card with something cheap or free that comes with your PC (normally on the motherboard). Also, as said above, the motherboard sound card conflicting with your other sound card is a very common problem, many people forget to disable it in the BIOS.
I've never had to use their support with hardware problems (as i know whatever problems there is, it's more than likely at my end), so i can't really comment if they're up to scratch in that area. However, other problems that i've had with in-game issues they've always sorted very quickly.

Also important to ensure you have the latest sound drivers.
What sound card did you have? Since you didn't specify I'm assuming it's not a Creative card?
Did you contact their tech support or just read the forums then give up?
Hmmmmm.... you say about 1 yr ago? I seem to recall something about DirectX having a problem around that time and causing fits with several different sound cards... could be remembering the timeline wrong... not sure.... But I distinctly remember several games having to instruct their users to disable their sound cards till a patch came out (not sure if EVE did, I was playing SWG at the time)......
Anyway, sorry to see you go... but it sounds like you're probably happier wherever you went anyway.
Just out of curiosity if you quit a year ago why are you posting in the EVE forums now?

can I have your ISK?
the sound doesn't suck, the music does.
Your argument is like a two legged dog with an eating disorder...weak and unbalanced.
I work in a computer store here in sweden and i just love moron costumers like you.
You tell ous that you have a superb PC but you dont even know what 3d card you have ? And its always the applications fault isent it ?
Why not smash som sence into your thick skulle and do some prime95/memtest on your comp you stupid shit ?
When you write an aswer to this i want a realy good explanation what you have done with your pc and exactly what hardware you have.
Motherboard/chipset
How many mem sticks and brand
Temperature on 3dcard and CPU/NB/PWM
3Dcard brand
And how many houers you can run prime 95 and how many errors you get in memtest.
If this part is okej we start to check your software.
Lets start from the beginning and do a clean install and ONLY use the latest drivers from the official site.
Hahahahhaaaahhahaha! Oh man I allmost fell of my chair reading this!
EVE Online is not your problem, there is clearly something wrong with your soundcard. Maybe update the drivers and firmware?
This is a stupid as someone buying a gun and then complaining that they cant hit the target...Must be the guns fault then eh?? ROFL.
Seriously, check out tech-issues forum. Its like any other mmorpg out there. (You didnt even submitt a petition, so what you can judge is that your computer is crashing due to a sound issue specific to YOUR machine..)
I know nobody that quit because of a sound issue (<- see how meaningless this type of arguments are).
It is if the gun sight is not alligned
As for the OP you obviously know very little about computers...Its understandable tho they are not the most user friendly games system around. As for possable solutions i wont bother helping you there because lots of people ahve already done this and were ignored it seems.

That is just a sampling of people having random crashes, related to sound or not, that happens in EVE.
they ADMIT to have problems with random crashing and they have no clue what causate them but it is definitly NOT a client computers problem (or then hundred different hardware configs don't work?)
People have said they have the problem with one of their computer BUT NOT with the other, right next to it. Even if they treated both with same care, updated drivers and all that stuff. simple one works and the other doesn't.
Maybe the OP was a bit aggressive, but i would be too if i can't play the game cause i crash all the time. (i actually do have random crashing problems, but not nearly as severe and it is very disturbing. one day i can go all the time with no crashing and another day i could get 3-4 in a row)
I'm frankly appalled at the reactions here, some were helpful, yes, but most were just flinging crap in the OP general direction.
Well, tip of the day: the fact YOU do not have a problem do not means there ain't a problem!
Have a nice day and be kind to the others people.

Hi everyone.
The OP is obviously frustrated and I can understand why as I have had similar issues lately with another MMO. As a couple of posters pointed out, the most likely issue here is your onboard sound. I had onboard sound on my MOBO and when I disabled it and fitted an audigy 4 everything started working perfectly. It is a widespread and known issue with many Mobos featuring onboard sound at this time and it is not unique to EvE.
Having said that, the reason I am posting is to remind several of you to have a care when posting please.
Several of you have come close to recieving a warning for your posts, however I have decided to just remind everyone of the Rules of Conduct at this time.
Please be nice to each other. If you have nothing constructive to post, move on.
Thanks

OP yes its your built in soundsystem...either disable the one your useing, or disable the motherboard's. Your causeing a conflict.
But then again...I always turned the sound off anyway. CCP had some poor choices of music playing.
the reason i quit the game was because of morons like you who have nothing better to do than run down other people. grow up, drop the attitude, get laid and most of all.....stop acting the tw*t.

This is a resource confliction. It's possibily related to IRQ conflicts/sharing.
As stated, diable your on board audio if the mother board exists with the feature. Update your sound card's drivers. Reference "System information" and check conflicts/sharing.
One problem I have is with the Audigy 2 sound card. It's notorious for bugs and conflicts, at least in my rigs. The game does not crash but sometimes the audio is a little out-of-wack.
On several occasions I've been able to indentifu problems when you have other resources sharing the same IRQ as your sound and/or video cards. Start there and work forward.
As for CCP's technical help, they are by far the best there is in relation to MMO game support. The primary problem is the lowest denominator which happens to be the user.
yesyes very good. i would be impressed if i didnt think half of it was a load of crap.
if you are that mature and sorted outside of gaming(which if you are then good luck)then why do you act the ass in gaming circles?
the reason i quit eve was people jumping on me just because of the occasional comment i would make about consoles. i got hacked off with it and started questioning the so called maturity of the eve community as a good percentage were acting like kids, i have a ps2 and play on it regularly and do not get any flack from other ps2 gamers, and yet as far as most pc gamers are concerned, the console gamers are the kids. i think a lot of people need to take a good long hard look at themselves before coming out with malicious comments.
as for your corp, good stuff carry on...but its hardly real life is it???
Hang on ... your not Vacillis, the player who threw a hissy fit because you asked if there was plans for eve to be made for the PS3 .. ehih lead a lot of people saying no or they hoped not then after someone said they thought the PS3 sucked.. you went off on one flaming everyone. After they had thought it had turned into a joke thread due to the "it does, it does not, it does" tennnis argument... Then post in a seperate thread of how eve sucked and the community was childish, then flamed everyone who had said the the PS3 sucked.
Then you changed your leaving post to you wasn't leaving, then you changed it again to you was as well as calling everyone retards and finally then before it was locked you changed to that you rest your case.. flamed another player.
To sum it up you quit because people said your idea of eve on the PS3 was a bad one and someone said the PS3 sucked.. and you complain about the maturity of the people who play eve.
Well none of it is a load of crap and maturity is hard to even have at all anymore. Its hard to get on the forums, have a good conversation without some annoying little twit sticking his nose in and adding idiotic comments that had nothing to do with the thread.
I will keep my maturity as long as I can, but when people post such stupid threads, especially ones that have more to the story then what the guy is telling us, its just down right hard not to sit there and type inmature things to the idiot.
As for consoles, I really prefer Computers, more games, better graphics, etc. IF your a console fan, WOOT, if not, WOOT.
But this thread was about some idiot quitting, just because of a sound bug. Annoying, YES, quitting over it, NO. And to post that you quit cause of it, calls for the most inmature things I can think of.
If your leaving the game, then leave, dont tell us. If you got problems, hadnle it the right way first, then come to forums to ask advice. But never ever come to the forums, post that your quitting cause you keep breaking your nail on the enter key.
Some people need to stop taking things so personally, especially over games ffs! At the end of the day, no one cares who plays on consoles, if you can't take criticism from a snot nosed little kid then you shouldn't be telling them what you do! Avoid and/or ignore them!
It's easy to find a group of people you get on with in this game, like any other game, even WoW! Try to convince your RL friends to play with you and you'll enjoy games a lot more.
I seriously cannot understand people who cry about kids on the internet. There's an ignore button, use it.
