I like the marketing gimmic. They get people into the beta that have already fronted some money for the game. You get an extra little graphic and some play time before release. This game doesn't have a lot of diverse features that I have noticed so far. It seems that most of the information being tossed around about the game is generally positive. I am just hoping for a DAoC type of stability at launch. I can handle bugs, but I can't handle tons of lag and constantly rebooting servers.

There will be a pre-release pre-order CD beta, but there's no telling when that will be.
Got my pre-order cd. It does NOT have the beta on it. You get a message after registering that "your account has been qued for creation, if you are chosen for beta you will be notified". Lying bastards they are.

Wow, beta must be going extremely well if they are talking about releasing the game in the next few months. I still haven't decided if I'm getting it, but I might if it comes out soon
well luckily I can still cancel my preorder and I think thats what I am going to do. I am thinking I don't want to spend my money on a lying deceiving company. The pre-order is very misleading. Basically from what it says on their site and even on the bonus disc, it makes it seem like you register and get into beta right away. And of those who think it is a big marketing ploy you are right. As I opened my pre-order box I found 3 ads. Two for AlienWare and one for Lineage II (Which I thought was funny since it is a competing mmog). Anyways the AlienWare Add showed "City of Heroes Best played on AlienWare". There is nothing special on the CD just junk. Oh well, you live you learn.

I can see where u are coming from, it is misleading. I think the company thought that they could get the game out last year and the delays are what messed everything up.
Chances are it will probably be the same beta that the contest winners will get into. Since there are rumors going around about an April launch, it will probably be the stress test part of the beta and they will probably invite everyone who is eligible.
Looks like we pre-orders may be getting out invite semi-soon. I'm hoping for sometime mid-march, they announced today that next week is the entrance of another, larger, closed invite from their fourms. Good sign! Heres hoping for the 4/28 release date, or whatever its at now!!

Sorry but you misunderstood.
Everyone who buys the pre-order disk WILL be let into beta...but its not clear at what stage.
I agree that it is very misleading. They call it "priority entry into beta" when it will probably be the last phase of beta!!!
The recent updates give a glimmer of hope that the cd-beta might be not so far off...in a month or so maybe?

Got my CD... I guess we'll see about this beta...
I wish they would've at least included the character creator on this disk. I would've played with that for a couple hours.
There's not really anything else on this disc worth writing home about...
