Lineage 2 has taken elves and presented them as they are often depicted in fantasy as lithe, beatiful, and deadly with their speed.  The human males on the other hand dont appear feminine to me, though they do appear young and less hardened then men from something like Conan.
I agree that it would have been nice for a larger range of customization and the option for that more "hardened" masculine look for the humans but I cant see that being applied to the elves or dark elves.

Good point. I should have clarified that I don't feel this way about all anime and have seen many examples of "masculine" males. However in my limited experience with the artform I notice what I see as a predominance of feminine looking males, much more so at least than typical "north-american/european-style" art.

As for L2 my opinion is actually fairly similiar to yours in the examples you mentioned. The human males are a bit "soft" and a broader spectrum would have been nicer but I can certainly live with what they offer. I enjoy playing the lithe, rogue or the athletic soldier-type as much as the more brutish types, probably more so, and the human males in that game can fit those descriptions. As for the the elves I have a love-hate relationship with them. Much of what they did I love and is how I would envision an elf but they are just taken a bit too far by the starting clothing, hair styles and some other various reasons. I actually thought I accidently made a female dark elf due to the "dress" he seemed to be wearing and what appeared to be an exposed upper chest at first glance. I had to go back in to the character generator to ensure it was really a male.

Really L2 is the type of anime that can win me over though. It won't make me a fan of the art but it certainly is nice to look at and I could immerse myself in a world that appears that way. My previous post is more in reference to other anime examples I have seen which take it a step farther. If I could define a line where the male models start to become unappealling to me I would say L2 borders on that line but doesn't cross it. A large portion of anime that I have seen does however.

Hopefully that clears up any confusion.

By the way I am probably more effeminite than the average "north american" male myself in real life and have no shame in that. I take my share of ribbing from friends/co-workers (guy talk) sometimes over certain things but I am comfortable enough in my masculinity I take no offense in it and am often the first to poke fun at myself. I think I'm a healthy mix of both and that's more important to me than impressing my guy friends.

Anyway I don't want anyone thinking that this opinion is coming from some overly "macho" guy who is uneasy over such issues or has some hidden issues to deal with. It's all personal taste here.
